  1. Agree. A bit disappointing , can't see a reason to downgrade to Vector in a marketing pitch.
  2. All I needed was a room, no door, no window, just to show some furniture design. I also created a roof to avoid bleeding sunlight. For some reason, my 'camera view set' had all roof elements not displaying, specifically roof planes. So I had this sunlight bleed at one end of the room. Here's what I found; either of these two approaches resolved the issue: set roof planes to display in 'camera view set', or toggle sunlight off Ok, problem solved. But I'm still puzzled as to how sunlight can bleed into a closed room. Any theories? Zipped plan attached. Sample.zip
  3. If you search 'Google terrain data' on this forum, you'll find several threads on that topic, but you'll be disappointed. Some say 'not accurate enough', but no recipe for trying it out.
  4. Notice as well that even if the wall and the niche have the same depth, the casing is still not entirely flush?
  5. Would it be a good idea to specify which version since many are in between X9 and X10?
  6. Too caught up on the backdrop. I had a gazillion trees on the terrain. Each of the backdrop and the trees produced the greenish color. And removing them is not a viable option. So, as you mentioned before, adding some lighting to the rooms rebalanced things. Thanks for pioneering this.
  7. The backdrop in this project is effectively heavily forested. I tried deleting the backdrop (Full camera view & 3D defaults) and it keeps coming back. I'm obviously missing something, again!
  8. I find that several camera view related adjustments won't immediately show in the current PBR; for example, changing the hue to attenuate the greenish teint. Very annoying to flip back and forth between DBX and view. It seems that sometimes just flipping from PBR to Standard back to PBR works, but other times I had to delete and recreate the camera. Have I missed something?
  9. What a scam. I paid 580$ + taxes CDN last November for my 1070TI.
  10. David, With all due respect, this ThioJoe guy is a comedian. Replying by saying you tried his stuff and it worked could motivate some less computer-savvy people to try it out and get in to trouble. Unless you were joking? P.S. if not joking, provide some before/after figures.
  11. Works magic, but why? How does flipping interior/exterior on one of them impact this, or said differently, why would it not work if both walls have the same side? Just trying to understand CA's logic here.
  12. i inadvertently added this to my X9 library. I don't seem to be able to delete it. Help?

    HD vs SSD

I've been SSD for years and see only benefits: less noise, less heat, less power, much speed. It's true that clocking the one time load of a 100MB plan from SSD versus HDD won't be significant on its own. But think of temporary files and other auxiliary files (patterns, symbols, etc.), auto-save, backups, swapping. You can get a 1TB Samsung EVO 860 (SATA III or M.2 SATA) for 330$. 275$ for the previous 850 model which I have. Get a pair and stop worrying about storage shortage for the next 'x' years. It's true that SSD writes wear off the device, but go check the warranty on those devices: you'll have switched to a bigger or faster SSD by then. I've had my oldest SSD (EVO 840) for close to 4 years on a system that's really busy and I'm only at 18TBW.
  14. JSON (JavaScript Object Notation) is a lightweight data-interchange format. See JSON. Not sure why ChiefTalk would prompt you for that. As Eric said, if not sure say no.
  15. I simply want to add my +1. CA's search engine is, well let's say rudimentary to avoid saying outdated. It is unforgiving (don't you dare misspell a keyword), restricting (no 'and', 'or', and no pattern searching). It's fine to boast having a library of a gazillion elements, but how do I find the one I need? So what's the solution? With all due respect to the OP, it's not asking co-users how they manage, it's CA replacing the search engine with one that comes with some AI. If all else fails, embed the Google search engine !!! So why hasn't this been done so far? My take is that CA's product is so full of functionality (positive) that at a certain point it becomes a nightmare to decide where you will improve next. The nightmare can be eliminated, as pointed out in another thread, by asking your users what they want most and evolving based on the most requested (that in turn based on evaluating what are the impacts of not having that, as opposed to subjective requirements).
  16. Glad you're out of trouble, but I just can't wrap my head around a DVD read retry affecting only the perusal of 3 CA library folders and nothing else.
  17. Moderators deleting posts and inserting a notice as to why would have been more transparent.
  18. Task Manager is fine for an 'overview'. In your case, you need to dive deeper, thus some detailed monitoring tool. SysInternals Process Monitor goes very deep, there is a learning curve, but it's free. There are probably other easier tools, just google.
  19. I just tried your scenario. Seeing that this issue has only been reported by you, plus the fact that you get the same behaviour in X9 and X10 with a very simple 4 wall plan, I would think it is related to some resource constraint on your system. My first suggestion is use some monitoring tool (ex: Sysinternals process monitor) to see where your system is spending time while you are waiting for the library to display. Also check the Windows logs. The fact you are seeing this issue in both X9 and X10 really points to some common cause, not strictly within CA, but likely a common WIndows resource.
  20. It won't let me select more than one view. Can you explain further?
  21. Michael, if I'm ever in the neighborhood of Wasilla, first thing I'll do is go shake your hand. Your video showed what I had gathered from Joe's post, but the bonus was understanding and correcting that off snap point. Very generous of you, thanks.
