  1. I just came up with this issue, so thanks for posting the 'solution', or workaround for bug. I also found that you could add the interior casing and simply set it at 0" width, which will then display as if no interior casing was used.
  2. Thanks! I wanted to do a benchmark with no extra weight. I guess I went overboard and didn't realize I had left the number of passes unlimited.
  3. I left a RT running overnight. When I got back to it, it had completed 3000 passes over 13 hours !!! And those were in 'quick' mode !!! I watched it for a few passes before going to bed and saw some rendering, I think (living room, far left in picture), but nothing after those initial passes and rendering after 3000 passes was the same as after a few minutes. Original: After 3000 passes: Obviously this RT was looping, but why? Anyone ever experienced this? I began reading this thread but had to quit early: too much excellent information, need to get back to this thread later though. Here are the parameters used:
  4. KTA is right: OpenGL apparently has no restrictions itself as to Max lights. But GPU processing of lights is quite complex and older GPUs would struggle with more than 8. It seems that Khronos' Vulkan (info here) is a likely successor to OpenGL-xx and OpenCL. Nvidia had already implemented Vulkan at Vulkan' launch and AMD is also on board. It will be interesting to see what Nvidia does with CUDA in the future. When searching CA support, there is no hit on 'Vulkan'. Anyone know what CA's intentions are?
  5. From my testing, all lights defined as On will show a glow looking at the fixture, regardless of their number. But if you look for the light emitted on surrounding objects, as TKA mentioned, only a maximum of 8 will show.
  6. A 1080 would be nice, but not at those prices I was looking at the 1070ti, but few online stores (Canada) have stock. Then moving away from AMD, I need to decide amongst Asus, EVGA, MSI, Gigabyte, Zotac... I assume you have an EVGA. What made you decide on that brand?
  7. I'm doing more walkthroughs as this project gets to an end and it's painful. There is an increased reliance on the graphics card with X9 compared to X8, as both @Chopsaw's test and mine indicate. Depending on which GPU benchmark, a GTX1070 runs 3 to 5 times faster than my HD7850. The HD7850 runs the walkthroughs at closer to 100% rather than my initial reporting of 90-95. So I suspect the CPU is actually regularly idling, waiting on the HD7850 to complete. That could explain the lower CPU consumption in my test. So, I have two options. It would be nice if CA would allow users to specify the load spread between CPU and GPU, but I suspect that would be difficult to implement. The other option is to try out a GTX1070 which I plan to do shortly. I'll report when I get there.
  8. Sporadically, after deleting an object (no precise pattern discerned so far), CA will want to close, thankfully first asking if I want to save changes. It seems to happen after a long period of work and many interactions. I usually cancel the closing and am able to continue work. This may be particular to my setup, so I'm not expecting anyone to invest efforts in helping out. I'm just posting to see if others have experienced something similar.
  9. So, just to add to the perplexity, here's a similar half wall in the master bathroom that turns out ok, even though the break in the back wall ends up in the middle of the intersecting half wall. Go figure. But I know, from my limited experience, that even here there's somethings wrong because I can see glitter on that wall intersection when I pan in 3D. I know, I need to move on...
  10. Thanks all. My turn to say how the assistance found in this forum is prompt and powerful. I get the feeling you guys have played around with CA for so long that you've developed a whole set of workarounds. I'm still in the early stage of the learning curve and I'm somewhat of a nit picker: it should work so I spend too much time trying to make it work. I'm slowly developing the attitude that CA is a complex and powerful tool, but it has its weaknesses, which I must accept.
  11. Thanks for noting. I had filled in my signature, but forgot to activate viewing them. Now activated.
  12. Just adding to the mix... I find PDF XChange Editor rich in functionality. There's a free version, which includes the markup tools a client would normally use. and a Pro version. You can visit PDF-Xchange Editor here.
  13. For me, 3D walkthroughs are useless: they're choppy because of my mouse movements and you can't correct if, for example, you turned left instead of right. So it's always 'record along path'. Chopsaw covered all the basics. I would only add this: when creating your path, use smooth, slow, wide turns, or else your client can get sea sick when viewing.
  14. Thanks. After some testing, I also found that the path recorder uses the Camera View Set. I have different Camera View layer sets, one with furniture, another without furniture. I wish there was an easy way of specifying the layer set to be used in the Walkthrough Option dialog.
  15. When generating a walkthrough, which layer set does it use?

    Roof group

The image 'target' is the one I manually edited. A quick note on how I got into trouble. I needed to raise the ceiling of that deck. Because I didn't have auto-rebuild, I ended up with the roof being somewhat lower than the ceiling, so uneven soffit. That's why I wanted to revert to auto-rebuild so CA would adjust the roof for me. I see in your image that the pitches are different for the main roof and the for the poch one. Yours is a shed roof: how does it turn out if you try a hip?

    Roof group

On surrounding walls, roof type 'High', pitch is greyed out and reverts to 8" On surrounding walls, no roof type selected, pitch remains at 4" Target

    Roof group

Right! So I set the pitch to 4 for all walls around this deck roof. When I force a re-build, CA creates a gable roof that digs in to the house about 3'. So went back in an defined a High shed roof for those walls; immediately the pitch is greyed out. When I force a rebuild, CA builds the correct roof, but uses the default pitch of 8", so back to square 1.

    Roof group

I'm probably misunderstanding "You can copy roof planes, rebuild the roof, then paste them back". I want to keep the pitch on a particular roof set and have CA auto-rebuild roofs
  20. I have a roof over a deck that has a different pitch (4) than other panes (8) on the house. After some editing on that odd roof, things got screwed up, so I would like CA to rebuild the roof. I thought of assigning this odd roof to group 1 in the hope I could rebuild this odd roof without affecting the other panes. But on the roof rebuild dbx, I don't see a way to constrain the rebuild to a particular group. What am I missing? If this can't be done, then what is the use of roof groups?
  21. Also use Zoom.us, free, HD screen sharing.
  22. Thanks @Chopsaw, I'll be running some more tests; it does appear the issue is with my setup.
  23. I use 2 utilities: MediaInfo to get specs from the output video (Open Source) Codec Tweak Tool to read or set codec parameters (part of K-Lite Codec Pack found here) I uploaded my test video tu Youtube. I can only play it at maximum 720P. I normally don't use Youtube for my clients, I link them to cloud storage.
