  1. Stop the obsession, I think you've got it nailed! This is the most realistic I've seen so far. Excellent work!
  2. You never stop contributing do you? Thanks!
  3. I totally agree with you asking new users to add signatures. May I suggest you ask them via private messages. Just trying to reduce the number of messages to go through when catching up on posts. Otherwise thanks for your constructive replies.
  4. Drive/file shares might be an issue
  5. Search the Web on 'bump map' and you'll get a bunch of videos on 'what is' and 'how to' as well as sometimes free tools or online converters.
  6. Absolutely! Especially the first one (for me) Puzzled by the strong light reflection off the ceiling on #2 ?
  7. Have you looked at the front view, given -400" ? I would suggest -200", but there is still a lot of work to be done for this design to be on tracks.
  8. One can't ignore so many contributions that try to help, great. BUT, here are the facts: Many have reported this behavior, since X9, maybe even before Someone hinted that a counterfeit version of X10 is the issue And then, one of the most respected member of this board, in a video he produced, inadvertently replicates this issue while explaining some CA procedure (is he using a hacked version of CA?) This delete issue happens to me, but not always; once it starts, it will repeat, until I close/reopen the project The difficulty reporting this to CA is: how do I demonstrate this issue, it's not reproducible at will Many of you have suggested settings (key mapping, hotkeys,...) It starts happening after some level of activity on a project, so that pretty well eliminates settings IMO.
  9. I have to disagree. Licenced users do get this behavior still.
  10. Yes, this is still a bug IMO, thought it would be fixed by now, but still occurs for me. Not sure what is the pattern leading to this. If I'm in the middle of some high brain consumption work, I'll hit 'cancel' and keep going, but it will reoccur on every subsequent delete. Only way out is to save, close and reopen.
  11. No problem here. Are you using the mirror material or a mirror object from the library?
  12. Have you looked on Crucial's site to check compatibility? I couldn't find your 8700. I tried a few other Dell's and none came back compatible with the MX500. I also got a BSOD when installing one of my SSD as a system disk: the culprit is most often a missing low level driver, skipped by the cloning software. If you can create a Windows 10 boot disk on a USB on another pc, then boot up with this USB on your PC and go into 'repair' mode. You tech guy should handle this.
  13. Not sure what you mean by "thoughts", but I suspect you're looking for guidelines. I am no expert at RT, I've jumped ship to PBR, but are you aware of the many RT videos here?
  14. I should have known that... Thanks!
  15. Above ground pool. I have a typical railing defined and would like to create a door with the same look and obviously with the door attributes (open/close, left/right, etc.). How do I change that so it becomes a door object?
  16. Given the flexibility of PBR and the community's enthusiasm for it (me at least), I would encourage the OP to consider maximizing his investment in a graphics card. I'm assuming RT will eventually give way to PBR, assuming again that PBR improves over time. I acquired a GTX 1070ti with PBR and path walkthroughs in mind. I find most of my walkthroughs push the GTX1070ti to around 50% while the CPU is at 95%. It does depend on the complexity of the walkthrough scenes and parameters. On the other hand, we don't know precisely where CA will go next: hand over more functions to the video card (see this post), optimize and expand CPU parallel processing? The answer for now is: determine how you use CA and see which hardware pressure point needs some relief. If for you the answer is RT, then multicore CPU with high frequency is the way. P.S. I'm surprised one of the regulars here didn't ask you to create a signature with your configuration: you would have gotten more precise answers I think.
  17. Just remembered the benefits of roof groups, thanks. P.S. The reason I use automatic roofing is to not get caught up with things such as that red circled issue on your image. I tried my hand at a 5 pane roof early on and the too many hours spent drove me back to automatic.
  18. My gratitude to you sir for showing me a bunch of stuff in that video. When I started, I watched a ton of tutorials, read the reference manual almost cover to cover, but I have memory limitations (I'm getting old too). So seeing someone actually going through the motions of selecting various tools while working on a plan, that I totally forgot about, but now need to use as I develop my knowledge of the product, well I learned a lot. Thanks!
  19. I've become addicted to this forum: I learn something new every day. Compared to the many other forums I follow, you guy/girls show so much generosity! So thank you all. Now, I started down the answer list sequentially. Your answer (#1) Glenn is actually the ultimate solution. I redid it twice just to be sure: I just couldn't believe it the first time. Making the side sections of the front porch the same depth as the front part resolved all automatic roofing issues!!! I can't make sense of how this 'touch up' impacts the garage roof and the second floor roof, but it does. Thanks again.
  20. This upgrade job is driving me nuts. I just can't get the 2nd level roof to build at all and I'm out of ideas; it needs to be gable. Can anyone please tell me what I've missed? Note that the garage roof is custom or else it doesn't line up with the front porch roof. Hunt.plan
  21. If I move the furred wall to the outside edge of the foundation wall, the wall treatment will appear, albeit with no outside view through the window. I also tried to change the wall to 'Frame through' and 'Split framing': still no blinds. A regular framed outside and inside wall: till no blinds. This suggests an issue with two adjoining walls, whatever type they are. But, as I initially said, If I make that window treatment a default in Default settings / Windows / Treatments, then all windows, including the level 0 ones show the blinds.
  22. Thanks David for confirming. Alaskan_Son: the "furred wall" thing is a great lead, I'll dig into it further before submitting to Support. Tied up now, but will report back later.
  23. Definitely some fuzziness in the Layout. Might be worthwhile upgrading that video card, or at least check on drivers. Do you see similar behaviour with other renderings?
