  1. AIA naming set is gone, not in X6. Here is a copy from X5 if you want to use. it. I have always wondered how accurate it is to the real world use.
  2. What kind of cooling is it going to have? I would suggest self contained cooling. I used "CORSAIR CWCH60 Hydro Series H60 High Performance Liquid CPU Cooler" my average temp is 31-32c, under 100% full load (raytrace operation) running OC @ 4ghz temps are 52-54c This will help achieve the best life expectancy out of your cpu.
  3. I agree with Joe and Barton, go with a desktop build! Also a 55" monitor may be a bit large for the mobile office. The van interior doesn't seam long enough, even with chairs placed at the rear door. Also consider the vibration damage potential to the electronics! If the van doesn't have air ride i would plan on isolation dampers for the mounting points of all fixtures. Carefully consider what you need to accomplish "on Site" I would have to assume the area that you would be building these million dollar homes in, would be a facility to rent a meeting room for the occasional client presentation. I actually thought about doing this as well. Came to the conclusion that it was way to much overhead to make financial sense. my 2 cents.

  5. SLI doesn't work in chief, maybe in X7! I hope The speed of raytracing is based on your processor speed. check my specs, I built my rig a little over a year ago. Works great for the sub 2k I spent. Oh and I also ended up adding a SSD primary C: drive I have it overclocked to 4ghz, was at 4.4 but over time became a little unstable.
  6. Yes there are some limitations, if your trying to make them for your shop to build from, it may be easier for them to make in a cabinet specific software. I believe most back panels in the real world are 1/4" plywood veneer material. I found in my library a closet module set, kindly offered by a fellow user. I don't recall who it was at the moment.   7. Hi Simon, I think you can get very close with a mixture of cabinets, shelves and partitions. Have a look at my sample. Use as needed. closet-wall-storage.plan
  8. Hi, I found doing a search that 3dsMax is the program that can open the fbx file extension. It also looks like Sketch up has an add on extension from Simlab to import fxb. MAy be more options out there, Blender, Maya, etc. HTH
  9. If it is a large pdf sheet 24x36, use as a temp tracing layer. As Jon demonstrated in his image( excellent Job!) Chief is up to the task. I used this website for simple terrain data import test in chief. It worked really well! geoplaner.com once you go to the lot in the map window, you should see the lot boundary.

  14. assuming you used auto dormers to make the originals. Select the dormer and "explode" the dormer. then you can connect the roofs. Use one of the (hole in roof polylines created by the auto dormer tool) selectable after exploding and stretch it to make one hole in the main roof plane. You will have to break the "hole" polyline to make the peaks and valleys to join your dormer roof planes to. check out the attached plan sample. dormer roof connect.plan
  15. Hi Barry, I would agree 2' increments is what lumber sizing follows. In regards to your question about wall height of 16' (get out the scaffolding) I think shear wall rules would apply, but requirements by location may differ. ie: seismic and high wind zones. I would get it engineered to make certain it meets local codes. my 2 cents.
  16. you have to make the " terrain wall" from a poly solid to start with. use the elevation tools to control the terrain in the area of question.
  17. just a thought, try using chiefs screen capture tool to snag (images) of the required pages? Maybe the images will be lower file size as well.
  18. Try the material in the core library- metal, patterned, wire mesh. It works well in render view, you will have to add the pattern for vector views.

  20. check your prefrences, appearance, color settings. the default is probably different than your old settings.
  21. Well IMHO I would do a test, see what happens. import it, save it, make a material, save to lib, delete . close chief , open chief and see!
  22. Jay, I would guess that it is the plan size. just a guess. I had an old HP laptop a few years ago that used to do the same thing. the plan was for a 16000 sf house. It had old single core processor at 2.4hz onboard graphics is just for 3d views, all the rebuilding is being done by processor. IMHO if your going to work on a laptop, plan on upgrading every 2 years at a min. program advancements and resource needs will change in this time frame.
