Yes I agree, but the client asked for wood

Here is my updated "all chief raytrace" Its getting better, found a better grass texture. Also added a small roof shadow board to give the edge a better look. Chief doesn't extend the roofing past the face of the fascia if there is no shadow board it looks funny. see the previous image. post #25

It appears that if there is one made for the material it is located here. assuming a standard install. C:\ProgramData\Chief Architect Premier X9\Referenced Files\CoreCatalogFiles.zip#zip:Asphalt Roofing Normal 2016.png -
Rashid Is this what you are after? This is the perspective floor overview camera, used the cross section slider set to 79" aff. Then view direction tool, select top view.

Mike, Yes it was a copy of the image used in front and then painstakingly erased to see thru the trees.
-
Rich, I know what you mean. I have done raytracing in chief and inserted it into images with photoshop. Kind of time-consuming but the result was acceptable to the client.

It appears the Owens Corning roof libraries are using a copy of the jpg as a bump? The only asphalt roofing in the core is 3 tab shingles. The architectural look is the norm around here. It is definitely an improvement. testing in X9.

I am looking for a solution to make the roof look better in raytraces. Anyone have a trick? Better material textures to make bump and normal maps form?

I agree with Michaelgia on setting up the scene. I have used other programs for raytracing in the past and they all require the scene and lighting set up. Plus texture adjustments. This is a current work in progress. One of the challenges I am experiencing in exterior renders is the backdrop image. I used the Marshes one from the library on this render. 50 passes, used photon mapping, no caustics, rest of settings in pictures It has to be at the right focal distance from where you want your camera placed in your model. Also the correct sun angle/direction, time of year, relevant to the location. etc etc. Does anyone have a suggested site for stock photos to import for backdrops?

Hi Rod you need to put a positive number in the terrain dbx.

Modeling different foundation conditions in same room
MPDesign replied to spbreslin's topic in General Q & A
Make it slab on grade on main floor, then add the 2 walls on floor 0 under the slab. use a section camera to adjust the height of the walls. Actually it may be easier to, make it a basement room with the stem wall height that you want the 2 walls to be, then make the other 2 walls invisible. -
Fireplace chimney issue and walls sticking above roof.

Newell, I used a skylight set to a hole. (uncheck skylight in dbx) Then in a elevation determined height above floor for 30" above ridge. In this case 222" above. Set ceiling height in the room to 222". The 2 side walls in dbx set balloon thru ceiling to get them to reach the roof. Tharp.Ben_Remodeling-EDIT.plan -
try a different stone, the image of the texture is the problem. to low a resolution.
-
I also saved and closed the plan just a minute ago and went to open the plan again and the time stamp was when I originally created the save as test plan name. It was 30 minutes difference!
-
It has gone back to not saving! I went to browser to type a report, stopped typing when I thought it was working. Then went back to it and it didn't work again. I see why you were going crazy.
-
well, upon further testing. I did a save as a new name and everything works as it should here, set my auto save to 1 minute, auto archive to hourly.
-
I can confirm the same behavior on here! will report now.

Send me a message, I can fix your roof and teach you how, online as we fix it.

Lance, If you are using X8 in roof dbx, structure tab. check mark by soffits "flat under eave sub fascia" Change gable and eave sub-fascia size + the soffit material thickness = the size of the fascia +1/4" for the pitch of the roof.
