Scott Hall and Joe Carrick live there. DSHALL and YODA

looks like your default room labels, change the size in the ROOM LABELS defaults DBX. I don't use those room labels so I have nothing there
-
Yes, material region is the way to go, then you don't have any wall breaks
-
Who does the structural plans.
-
I've been trying to get Chief to add a "PSL" to the beam labels forever. Others too like "LVL", GLB. I guess I have no pull with them like Scott does.

it's been many years since I've done a true 3 story, because the cities are so height anal here, max. heights are around 32' or around that height depending on the city, but we used to be able to use a roll out ladder, and it had to be quick accessible on the 3rd floor. We just kept it in a closet. Done lots hillsides but those don't qualify as a 3 story. Those were the good ole days. do you need a copy of the CRC, let me know i'll send it to you?
-
How about a roll out ladder thru a window. That used to work.
-
That's why you need 2 different framing layers, as it would be built in the field.
-
Joe, is the "My framing labels" new and for sale or are they the old ones?
-
Thanks, looks nice, anything special like custom macro's or just something anyone can do.
-
I just use a typical line at 100 line weight so I don't have to break any walls. for the holdowns I just use details and collouts for those. There is nothing in Chief's program that automates this and the materials list is wrong, if you use it.

Chief already re-vamped the stair tool I believe in X8. Just didn't go as far as people want.

Door jamb with no casing does not extend to wall ext
DRAWZILLA replied to dskogg's topic in General Q & A
Did you try to print it to PDF, b/s sometimes extra lines go away when you actually print it. -
Thanks Joe, got any views to show.

For me it's basically 8' ceilings 80" window and door height, 9" ceiling=96" window and door height. 10' ceilings =96" window and door heights. Interior doors can be 80" high no matter what the ceiling height is. It depends on the room. I never use any rough openings because as the design stage ,I have no idea who the manufacturer is of anything in the plan. and the builder will determine the price, and who that is, varies greatly. Sometimes even after permit, they still don't know. So I leave it generic.

Do you have the latest update, I thought that was fixed.

Door jamb with no casing does not extend to wall ext
DRAWZILLA replied to dskogg's topic in General Q & A
Sometimes I will turn on the casing so it looks like a frame by using maybe a 1" x 1/4" casing so that area will fill in. -
You can use the wall hatch tool then select it and change it, but there are no defaults for it. If you want all your walls to default to a fill, change the fill in your wall defaults and every wall of that type will fill with a pattern.

I would use a ceiling plane for individual rooms, for framing to go different directions, but depending on the condition, I would use the ceiling structure/ finish DBX if you are dealing a room vs. the whole floor. sometimes I want the plate height to go through the dropped ceiling sometimes not. Exactly where you place the ceiling plane line makes a difference. Whole bunch of differences matter on this. for a quick non structural method , you could just adjust the thickness of the ceiling finish, good for prelims but working drawing will require framing, then you need to use actual framing. iguess what I'm saying" it depends".

Terrain Elevations with Google Earth and Sketchup
DRAWZILLA replied to parkwest's topic in General Q & A
tried it a while back and it's not accurate enough for me. -
Larry, Funny thing , I noticed a big difference between my 780 and my newer 980 ti. D id you set it up in the NVidia control panel to work with chief? Maybe you need a new computer, to many bottlenecks. I know I'll buy new parts 1 time , then it's time to move on.

Thanks or all your time on this Graham, it all makes since to me. Moral of the story is get as much CPU and video card that you can afford, as it has always been.

Why Doesn't a Faster CPU Speed Up Certain Operations In Chief?
DRAWZILLA replied to HumbleChief's topic in General Q & A
Larry, Do you have a lot of cad blocks or cad details in your plan, that can slow things down? Just a thought. -
Thanks Chop, being on the west coast I get here long after you guys have already been. And really don't want notices on my phone.
