Setting The "active" Layer For Linework, Text, Etc.
DRAWZILLA replied to GLOBE-Res's topic in General Q & A
Chief really doesn't mix with AutoCAD methods, it's a whole new world of tools. You just have to learn Chief's way. -
Yes, I get that also, somehow I get it going if I wait a little after closing and restarting.

Larry, if you right click on the X8 icon on your desktop you can click on "run as administrator" in the advanced section, to take care of the first message. the second one not sure but I have also seen that one usually when trying to open 2 versions at the same time or for some reason windows is not deleting it from your running tasks when you close it so it thinks it's still running.

Ca X8 And X7 - Installed On Same Computer
DRAWZILLA replied to ComputerMaster86's topic in General Q & A
I have had X7 and X8 running at the same time. After starting X8, start X7 while holding down the control key. -
I would add some light sources in the kitchen to even out the shade vs light areas.

Here is an example of a very simple patio cover using the deck tools.
-
I do it so I don't see the deck on the 1st floor b/c I'm using it as a lattice patio cover. Also use the deck rail -no railing tool. It's a lot faster for me so I don't have to make each item. If you use 2x2 lattice then adjust the decking to 2x2's or whatever you want. If the patio is a solid roof then I use railing walls (post to beam) and a roof. No posts at the side walls. Using the deck method,You can also adjust the patio cover height by setting the deck floor height and will automatically rebuild it until you get everything just right.
-
I do it using reference sets and anno-sets all the time.
-
You can also just turn on the wall labels for those footing walls, I sure with some macro work you could do it also b/c all you would have to do is put a macro in the label and another macro to list them.
-
I actually like cutting through the cabinets at the ends.
-
I use the deck tool tweaked to make those lattice patio covers on the 2nd floor even if there isn't one, It gives you the posts and footings, deck framing for rafters automatically. If you need to rotate your deck , you need to select everything you have and use the transform/replicate tool.
-
Cant you just use the wall elevation tool to get that?
-
Works for me, not sure what's going on. Is your text size bigger then it need to be, that's one way to make it smaller
-
Just move the diamond at the top and they will re-size the column and the image size. You can also check the scale box in the schedule DBX.
-
I have 12 gb of ram and it really made my system quite a bit faster.
-
Sometimes I just put the cad block in plan view when I'm in a hurry but no 3d then. Fix it later so I can get them in the schedule
-
If you send as vector view, plot lines, you will get layer line thickness control settings. Live views you can't.

Those have never worked unless they recently fixed them. they never sat on the cabinet in 3d view they were always 5" away from the cabinet face and had to be adjusted in the symbol DBX. It was that way forever.
-
At this time Chief doesn't address battered walls ( sloping face). You would have to create it using p-solids or roof planes or a molding p- line. I have seen some others do it but it takes some work that is very custom.

I think it's possible automatically Set the different pitches in the wall DBX

How Do You Change Dimension Call-Out Without Moving Wall
DRAWZILLA replied to capitaldesigns's topic in General Q & A
I thought the line stayed, but I guess not. The text would be added just like normal text. I really never use it anyway but it would solve a lot of others problems who want the line to stay, if it did. -

Yes it's in X8. -
I think the release should be early Feb. like it has been for a while now unless there is a problem.
