Beautiful Chief Architect Rendering using an Image instead of the Backdrop X15 & X16

Auto framing can slow things down (especially if a Schedule is used?)  as can Fills with huge numbers of CAD lines too.

I do not have auto framing on, and rarely use framing. I think I did use framing on this house though if I remember correctly.

I checked out streamyard, but is it simple for non video conferencing people to connect on their end? Seems it needs to be done in a browser and depending on their devise, what browser is best to use. Have you run into any issues with that?

it doesnt have some features of zom, but easy to work with and yes just runs through a browser and they keep adding features

I don't use features. The client and I are talking and watching my screen and I point things out. I did get "Region to Share" - a small piece of software so you can show only a part of my screen - that is very nice. Zoom has that built in, but most do not.

Outside of that, I do not use drawing tools, etc. So it can be a very simple system.

All the window panes are intact...shouldn't some be broken and others very dirty?!

Just kidding of course, what you've done with that image is pretty amazing!

So, what you think of this broken glass? About 10 mins work just to see how it may look

Its not very nice in the window. I just wanted to figure it out. The window is insulated air to blank out the glass and the broken glass are solids turned into glass. If you put the sunlight on the floor the glass turns black and unimpressive.

Like Jason said it's a little hard to see what's going on.

The glass on the porch floor looks better than the glass

that is/is not in the window. I think it will look better if the

individual panes are broken rather than a big section of

the glass missing across multiple panes. Be sure to add

some spiderwebs and cobwebs in the corners of some

of the panes.   Your textures are looking great except

that the grain is running the wrong way on the horizontal

window muntins.  (hate when that happens)

Keep up the good work! Really like what you are doing

by trying to get the best possible output from the tools

Chief supplies instead of just telling everyone to use

some different software programs for renderings.

I had to go back to X6 to find this broken window I had

a play with. As I recall I set the window glass to no

material and made the broken pane from a thin 3D

solid set to the standard glass material.

Thank you, Rich! I could make everything flawless if I wanted, but I mainly wanted to prove to myself and others that Chief has the tools to do a great job with rendering. ;)

Here is a modern home I drew and just completed the construction docs. Then I spent two hours making a rendering. Spent an hour just messing with backdrops, and lighting inside and out. One thing I am learning, and that is that with the simple method I am proposing at the start of this forum thread, a nice looking rendering can be done quit fast. But when you start to mess with photo backgrounds to attempt to make the whole image look real, the lighting and backdrop hue causes a very individualized camera experience.

Thank you, Sir! It's been a lot of fun to learn rendering and now being able to do it within Chief.

Rendering Materials and Libraries Update for X16...

I am putting together the floor plans and now renderings for a condo project. I am posting this here because this is a continuation of the rendering method I proposed in the beginning of this thread. I am using this method to render some of my projects.

I needed to put together 5 renderings, and while the first took about 90 minutes, the last two renderings were done in under 45 minutes. As you learn more about Terrain Features, using them to make driveways, sidewalks and landscaping beds, you can begin to set up defaults or parts that can be brought into your model that already have the materials and properties you end up using over and over.

The Landscape Library has a few new trees (not Chief) and are larger in file size (Tree01 and Tree02). There are also a number of Hosta plants that are now available to use in X16. The library also has a number of the objects like Grunge, Grade (lawn plants and leaves) and Shadow trees (which I do not use. But if you have a smaller graphics card, they can help with rendering speed.)

X16 now supports HDRi backdrop images. I am including a library of some images I put together. HDR08 is what I use now for the "Backdrop" image vs one I made for X15. HDRi images do a better job of creating tree and sky reflections in your windows.

X16 Drawing Template

I am also including my Template as it includes a number of cameras that you can copy and paste into your templates.

Steve, thank you for sharing your time and knowledge.  Your work is beautiful and inspiring!  Looks like I'll be spending some time on rendering today.

Thanks to everyone else too!  Lots of good information here.

What is the best format to order for importing into Chief so you don't spend hours remapping textures onto the imported tree?

I would ask them before buying, as I thought at one point they supported Chief directly, but that is likely quite a while ago now but I'd have thought .obj or .3ds should work other wise, but they may not support Chief new 3D Engine anymore?

Thank you for the comment for buying Chief optimized trees. I don't have a clue, or the time, to buy and import trees from Xfrog that require mapping of textures....etc....

As soon as I clear some crap off my desk I'm going to check out your store, which I just looked at and it's amazing, and I'll be making some inquiries or immediate purchases.

I don't get separately compensated for client renderings but I want to keep up with everyone else and provide some higher quality eye candy to the clients and it looks like your User Library is the way to go. I didn't know you have a virtual store until I hit your "Shop Link". Holy crap......very cool.

Thanks again for this reaction. (I screen clipped and sent to my mom, she gets a kick out of reactions:))
here is Chief's "Timber Ridge" after I replaced materials and added my own plants and trees in the foreground.
This is also an example of what @stevenyhofis talking about with the backdrop continuing the horizon line

Thank you,

Thank you for all the information you have provided.  I have printed all your details and downloaded your library images, etc.

Still trying to gauge sizing of images as opposed to backdrops. Most of my renders are  exterior and I really didn't want to go to an outside software when I know I can learn from your info.  I was doing ok til I upgraded to X16 then all my settings had to change so it is a learning curve.

thanks again!

thanks again!

The one thing I am learning with X16 is to use the HDRI backdrops. I have included some I liked. This makes the house look more real. I still use the X15 background images for some work as you can see above, but there are times on my computer that some kind of light washes them out, makes vertical light strips on it <_<

But I like to use the HDRI backdrop with the background images because I can get nice window reflections with it. Big thing is to find a process and reproduce it. With each rendering there is always some tweaking.

I also use a few of Chiefs 3d trees to cast shadows vs the 2d trees I include. 2D trees just do not give a good result.

Very nice, Rene! What caught my eye are the two piles of mulch in the landscaping. Is that something you are selling? I'm not doing much with rendering at the moment, but I am always looking at 3D objects. For that matter, it is hard to drive down the road without looing at the trees and wonder if they are 3D objects, or what in them look fake - LOL

My first few years of rendering I would walk into places and just stare. I was just looking at how light bounces. I would geek out on it. One of the funniest things to try and explain to someone what you’re even looking at.

yes I’m seeking a tree and plant package that’s pretty extensive now. Hard scaling and landscaping materials, mounds, tons of bushes, climbers, architectural blocks for distribution regions, potted plants, trees. All with custom CAD blocks
