Alan probably has the best solution, but I've never used materials lists yet. So, if you want an alternate method: shoot elevations. Draw polyline polygons to define the wall area, and use the Object Specification dbx to check the enclosed areas of each polygon. Add them up.
-
Cripes Scott, I can't get those results with the Edit Wall Layer tool. I believe the OP said pretty much the same. Did you adjust the wall defs at all?
-
I believe this is a problem with wall main layer definitions. I don't have a solution yet.

Professor, you are clearly an old AutoCAD user, with your talk of paper space and model space. I am very often victim to what Perry mentions - I forget that in CA I don't have to terminate a "hotkey" command with Enter or Spacebar. This results in lots of "weird" behavior, when CA and my AutoCAD brain are out of sync. Just a notion - not saying it's your actual problem.
-
I don't know why, but maybe you can fix it easily by setting a deeper bottom margin?
-
Yep - love that functionality. And AutoCAD isn't the only program I've used that uses more robust, user-friendly Undo operations; I use one at home that gives a pop-up box detailing the operation to Undo when I hover the mouse over the Undo icon.

See the dashed line in plan view? That's the outside edge of the finish fascia. Pull the roof plane out the depth of the finish fascia, and I'll bet the elevation is fixed.
-
To fix the wall problem, go to the 2nd floor plan view, select the two intersecting CMU walls at the corner, open the wall dbx, and uncheck "balloon through ceiling above".
-
Rods can be made in plan with BUILD>PRIMITIVE>CYLINDER. Assign a height, position in plan, then shoot an elevation and rotate.
-
Nice, Jim. Now I remember why I've held on to my 30-60-90 triangles for all these years.
-
Decks should be slope-able. Slabs also. Even odd shapes should be slope-able. If CA can figure out roof intersections at an angle, it can figure out sloped decks and slabs that intersect at an angle.

Remember when printing meant rolling the diazo exposure into a cardboard tube and splashing in a little ammonia - then waiting ten minutes?
-
Yes, you did. My brain didn't read it that way the first time - I can't explain why.

Cad File Opens But Is Nowhere To Be Found In The Plan View
rlackore replied to VHampton's topic in General Q & A
I thought that was very interesting, so I took another look (and considering the file size, something had to be there). All the linework was in paper space, not model space, so Chief probably didn't know what to do with the file. Anyway, see attached: new block.zip -
Like Tommy said. The only thing I have to add is that to create a molding polyline quickly, select the exterior room and Make Room Molding Polyline.

Cad File Opens But Is Nowhere To Be Found In The Plan View
rlackore replied to VHampton's topic in General Q & A
The following referenced files are missing: c:/allan engineering/mobile homes/20571 Mural ST.pdf c:/allan engineering/civil/eagle rock project/hydrology/file002.pdf Ask Allan Engineering to bind the references before sending you the dwg file. Of course, pdf files are just raster images, so don't expect to be able to extract any editable linework from the dwg, because there isn't any. -
I believe this behavior is normal; however, you can pan around using the arrow keys and the command will remain active.
-
I had no troubles - opened all elevations at the same time, messed around a bit, selected all markers, etc. However, I didn't have your MyHand font, so it substituted with Arial - don't know if the font could possibly affect anything.

The railing walls are aligned with the stem wall main layer (concrete). Just move the railing walls out 4" (the thickness of the stem wall brick) in all directions.
-
Yes, the actual plan file. You can zip it first if it's large. Another option is to DropBox it and give us a link.
-
Does it matter why? We all work differently. We all have weird situations that pop up that require a lot of effort. Rob may have a very good reason to model the soffit framing, and it may require a long, detailed explanation that isn't relevant to the problem. BTW Rob, I trained and served with many Marines off and on over the course of my Army career - you fellas are a breed apart. Thanks for your service, and a happy belated Veterans Day to you.

Please post the plan, it will be much quicker and easier for us to help.

What Tommy said; but be aware that you can only export folders from you're User Library - not individual items (unless they are sitting alone in a folder).
-
Unfortunately, CA doesn't do networking and collaboration very well. My office has six seats of CA, and the only way for us to share user-created content is to export items from our User Libraries and import the content individually, then delete the old content. Major PITA - it makes standardization of library content very difficult. CA definitely needs the ability to share libraries stored on a network, much like it allows the use of shared pattern files.
