Nice video Eric. I was impressed how you immediately honed in on the tower causing the roof build problem on the right. That one flummoxed me.

Elisa, here's the back view with the porch... there was no indication of a back porch in the plan you uploaded by the way. I'll give you the x12 plan if you decide to upgrade to Chief.
-
FYI... one of the reasons we ask people to include their signature in the Forum is so we can see what version of Chief they're using, along with other things. I made the changes in X12 and just went to save and now I see that you must be using an earlier version... sooo... unfortunately my changes are not going to be useful to you. What version are you using anyway?
-
Is this what you're looking for? A bit hard to tell from your description... you're talking about a porch to the left?...and the porch next to that?... and there's only one porch that I can see, and it's right in front.

Hey Kevin, I see you had the heavy-hitters helping you out, did you resolve this? I think I never fully understood what you had going on... because if you change the layer color of any 3D symbol then it should change just as per Erics example. Although I don't know why you aren't just using the 3D symbol, here's how you can get a clean line drawing...(no shading) Use a an orthographic overview camera set to TOP VIEW from the 3D pulldown menu, then make a cad detail from that view.

Alan... search Toilet Bowl in the library, there's a bunch but without the flush valve..> BUT< there's a bajillion flush valves in the library too, so just put the two together.
-
I can see from your pics that the mess of lines you get is all of the faces of the whole 3D model... not a 2D block. I'm assuming what you want for your light colored lines is just for 2D representation in a plan view. Before exploding, try making a CAD detail from view and using that for the 2D representation?
-
Ahh.. okay, so this is the part I was thinking you could avoid by changing the layer color in the ALDO... but if the lines are not already set to take the layer color I guess it's not an option.
-
I don't know the reason it's changing, which is the root of your question, but I'm thinking you could leave the lines alone and just change the layer to 50% gray?
-
Yes... I've wished silently. It must have been a while since you requested this because I'd definitely have backed it up. Bump it. Ideally they'd work just like temporary points... run infinitely in both directions from placement point, erase all with one command.

Comm. Outlets... what're you guys showing these days?
DzinEye replied to DzinEye's topic in General Q & A
That's what I've been showing too. Just wondering if that's still the norm to run all three throughout the house. Right, but usually internet, or for those still taking cable tv, the signal comes into the house via a phone line for DSL or RG6 coax for Cable... and in growing circumstances Fiber-Optics. I would think for a new house of today, that normal would be to bring in all options from side of the house to a hub point within and then just distribute only Cat-6 from the hub point to all the rooms? At least to me that's what seems to make sense for today's technology... but it sounds like distributing all 3 wire types may still be common. -
Comm. Outlets... what're you guys showing these days?
DzinEye replied to DzinEye's topic in General Q & A
Thanks for the feedback guys! Definitely seems to still make sense to run Cat-6, but what about the Cat-3 (telephone)? Is anyone still installing that? And how about RG6? (typical Co-ax)...that used to run everywhere one would've wanted a TV, but now everyone's accessing TV via streaming. -
Curious what you guys are showing for communications outlets in homes (or even offices) these days? I've had a symbol for what for years was common install, a bundled phone, RG6 cable and cat-5 or 6 internet and would show one in each bedroom and the family room and/or living room. Now everything's wireless...Seems to me the only thing relevant anymore is having a single communications/entertainment hub area wired with RG-6 and Cat-6.

I went from two 24" monitors to a 43" 4k almost a year ago now. At first I was thinking of getting one of the wide screen style monitors, but they were a lot more expensive so didn't. For a little while after I started using this monitor I wasn't sure about it. Was thinking maybe I should've gone wide-screen style. I loved the width, but my eyes weren't used to looking up so high. However... you soon get used to it, and I'll tell you.. exactly as Joe suggested above.. when viewing Layout it is AWESOME to see your page almost full size on the screen. That right there is worth it in every respect. It flat out is worth it just for that ability alone. There was a thread a while ago where participants were talking about how it's so easy to not see mistakes until after a document is printed. Without question, seeing the page full size (or nearly so) on the screen helps tremendously with that. Still there is a component to our brains subconsciously not looking at a screen the same as a printed page, which I'm not sure we'll ever get rid of, but the ability to see is tremendously better. Set-ups like Joe's a 55" plus two vertical 30's on the side... I think Perry runs two 43" side-by-side. I've seen others post similar set-ups. I guess if you're sitting 6 feet away from the screens I guess it's awesome, but for me, sitting about 3 feet away from this 43" is more than enough. I dock Project Browser and Library and ALDO off to the sides off the main Chief window. I feel like there would be too much head-turning to see all the real estate these other humongous setups have... but if there was another monitor just to have a web browser and email easily viewable...not related to Chief operation that would be fine.

If you know the angle, just type it into the box in the Tab dbx

Is your Ceiling Surfaces layer turned on???
-
Just in case it wasn't clear... I opened it in X12... but yeah, that is interesting you're opening it in both versions of Chief on the same computer/monitor and getting different results. Still it's curious why it's coming out just fine on my end in X12.
-
And you can model it too...

There are others who have more experience with notes who may have more useful info.... but have you tried using the Project Browser ? Open the Project Browser and look in the Schedules area... you should find the rogue schedule there and be able to delete it.
-
I just opened your files and the text all looks perfect on my monitor... so it seems this almost certainly must be something to do with your particular computer/monitor set-up. Maybe try changing your monitor display resolution just to see if it makes any difference?
-
Yes. See 'Lintel' in the Door Dbx

If you only need to show them as 'one plan' for the purposes of a site plan, you can make a symbol of one of them, then insert that symbol in the other plan.

I'll be interested too! I have rotten 'luck'<?> searching for things which sometimes I know are in the forum. I don't think the search engine on here is very robust, but the difference between your search and Eric's (Solver) has me curious. Eric, if you've got any ideas on this difference would love to hear! In defense of Eric's response about searching though, there really are a load of queries that come into the forum that are answered by well made videos and information documents that Chief has prepared and those usually pop-up in a basic search. If you first try searching however, do not ever be put off to sending in questions. Usually a lot of people learn something from one persons question being answered.

Nice catch Levis. I tried changing the wall material thinking it might be something to do with the wall, but didn't think number of layers would be the issue. Very interesting.
