  1. I have never used Softplan I did arrange a rep to do a presentation at our remodelers club He didn't bring the software - he just talked for 40 minutes about its features and benefits I couldn't believe he didn't tell me he wasn't actually going to demo the software I have been on this forum since 2004 and I have never heard anyone speak good of Softplan that has tried it and then tried Chief Lew
  2. my recommendation is don't use McAffee my recommendation is to use Norton I've been using it for decades and I surf the web veraciously some will say it is a resource hog and a decade ago that was true but it was re-written and wins the awards every year stay away from Kepersky - Russian spyware https://us.norton.com/norton-security-antivirus Lew

  13. David Potter has X1-X9 on Windows 10 Pro If you will be using the laptop at the clients I would recommend 17" or larger or buy an LCD projector crowding shoulder to shoulder with the clients works but ??? get a larger monitor or tv for home with 4K etc the clients don't need that in your laptop screen I agree with upgrading to X9 If you are in business you should stay current X2 is getting very old if you ask questions on this forum you may not get the best answers as the reply might be "not sure how X2..." or "not sure if X2 can do that..." Lew

  18. The CA input method expects you to go around the lot in one direction, either clockwise or counterclockwise Chris: understood my problem was that if I made a mistake I had to start all over again maybe I didn't but I couldn't figure out how to correct the mistake and keep going I have seen other survey/plot software where you enter everything into a table and then "resolve" the plot I prefer that method Lew
  19. just draw a bunch of single lines and use point-to-point to move them into place. Should take about 5-10 min. max I only did a few plots because I hated the input method it should be "easy" to enter this data and get a plot I stopped doing them and gave them to my partner to do he has more patience than I do CA needs to make the input method MUCH easier Lew
  20. Gene: start with this Surface Pro 5 https://www.bestbuy.com/site/searchpage.jsp?cp=1&searchType=search&id=pcat17071&st=surface pro 5&qp=processormodelsv_facet%3DProcessor Model~Intel 7th Generation Core i7^systemmemoryram_facet%3DRAM~8 gigabytes add more ram or more SSD if desired jumpsticks (128 or 256 GB) and external drives (2 TB $79) are easy to add via USB Surface only has 1 USB port - but I have a very small hub that gives 4 ports and has its own power supply if needed for $80 I bought a CD/DVD/Blue-ray player - to use as needed I also have the HDMI wireless adapter so I can display Surface on my 60" tv at home and another for my 42" tv at my musuem as for running Chief ? - I'm retired and don't use the Surface for that still run on my old laptop and my old desktop Lew
  21. I found GOTOMEETING to be very helpful its free for the client - you start a session - they sign in and you can show them whatever you want while you drive Chief and other software on your PC you can even give them control of their keyboard and mouse to let them drive you can record the session so any changes are documented etc there are cheaper versions but their names escape me know as I haven't used them in awhile another method is to create a client presentation layout then print as a PDF and email them the PDF or meet in person (best) I named my layouts as 123_OAK_LAYPS_171028_1500_LBX9.layout and 123_OAK_LAYCP_171028_1700_LBX9.layout where PS = permit set and CP = client presentation Lew
