  1. You cannot do it via the stair dialog, the way I do it is to draw a cable railing wall, marked "follow stairs" and turn off the railing of the stair object on the rail side of the stairs. It is not "easy" to do but can be done with patience and exactness. DJP
  2. You can use a doorway with the casing and sill turned off. DJP
  3. Open "Display Options" for that plan view and check the line weights, then adjust as necessary. DJP
  4. Here is the edited file (in X8) and a You Tube video of me fixing it: https://youtu.be/5U5kZ9PPWkk DJP 235 St Francis Final 02012016 2 Dormers.zip
  5. My website is up and running now DJP
  6. I initially altered the wall poly-lines but a better solution is to make the offending walls pony walls without altering their poly lines except to align their split layers after converting them to pony-walls. You can replace the wall I made invisible and then place a doorway for the stairs to pass through. Off set wall poly-lines come into play when you have a split entry, multi-level floors it just comes with that turf. DJP
  7. I was able to open in Version 7 and then 9.5, X1 and then X7, the plan file is attached. You did not say what version you are using now so I guessed. Being created in 1998 would make it a Chief Architect Version 5 file or a similar version of 3D Home Architect. I keep version 7 mainly for such older file version upgrades. I haven't needed anything older so far. DJP Old Home.plan
  8. I recently replaced my laptop with a New ASUS Republic of Gamers G751JL unit. It was reasonably priced and works great with Chief. DJP
  9. Sorry but I could not figure out what you are complaining of but I did download your plan and made a video of me fumbling around with it: https://youtu.be/l8AWuJphLXU DJP
  10. The thing to do is to study what makes a computer "great", what factors directly effect performance and then with that understood, read the specifications of a perspective computer backed up by some knowledge and understanding. Solid State hard drives give overall better performance over analog drives. The better your video card is, the better, faster rendering you get. Having enough RAM to support multi-tasking and general performance You will get a number of opinions here, that is the purpose of the forum but the most reliable opinion you can have is your own after you get defined geeky terms and a better understanding of how and why computers do what they do. 11. Call Tech Support or HP Tech Support for help. DJP
  12. I looked at your plan but from the wording of your post above, I haven't a clue what the problems are. You need to be a little more specific than "...I can get the cantilever to work" (I haven't a clue what you mean by that). Also how is the lower foundation "not working...". You need to clearly state exactly what is wrong and why it is wrong in your opinion, leaving us to guess at what you mean is an unfriendly way to treat us. DJP
  13. I just use my "caps lock" button at need. DJP
  14. You place two doors side by side, opening in and the other opening out. Then using "Control-Drag" you make them occupy the same wall space. DJP
  15. You unblock the CAD detail (if blocked) and then use a CAD "Fence" to delete lines on one side or the other of the CAD fence. You should carefully read the section of the Reference Manual that describes its uses. DJP
  16. Whatever their genesis you can easily remove them once the elevation is sent to layout using the "Edit Layout Tool". You can also use that tool on layout to replace missing lines as well. DJP
  17. Where you have a multi-layered foundation wall, optically-manually alignment of foundation walls seems to be a conservation solution https://youtu.be/egAYrMGXoM8 DJP
  18. Select "Slab" after placing the garage door, on the "Options" tab you can then alter how many panels the slab door displays. DJP
  19. To my knowledge this has never been true since version 4 to the present. DJP
  20. Zooming in makes manual dimension edits easier, it gives you greater control over what happens. DJP
  21. I think the cause is improper procedure: you used transform-Replicate when you should have use the "scale tool" on the layout page. If you want to change the scale you change the scale or for unscaled views you simply use the corner handles to upsize or downsize an image or other unscaled view. No bug just using the wrong tool. DJP
  22. You can resize them or just make them white which will get your intended result. Every object large or small has a dialog box where that object can be edited. DJP
  23. I think anyone to help you would have to have copies of the offending files to start to run down such an unwanted problem. DJP
  24. So far I have not found a definition for "PH" that applies to Architecture or Construction, if one exists, I need to know what you mean using it as you have please in order to proffer help. DJP
  25. Anything worth doing is done at a professional level with competence and certainty. "Playing around" has its own rewards but they do not include bankable income. The first thing to do is to really learn with certainty how to 3D model and create useful construction documents. This requires applied, dedicated study and practice not only with the software but also building procedures, drafting and Architecture. Only you can apply the discipline necessary to achieve bankable success. It all starts with your personal decision to succeed. So get started! DJP
