  1. Like jbaehmer said, and to amplify, such things are controlled by you by way of "Display Options - Rooms" in this specific case. DJP
  2. The more performance you get the higher the price, so in the end it is you and your budget that will decide. DJP
  3. As Shane's image shows, Temporary Dimensions can be manually turned on and off. Yours are probably just "turned off". DJP
  4. Good specs, reasonable price. My laptop has a NVIDIA 965 and is quite good. Had I gotten a laptop with a NVIDIA 980, I would have expected to pay more than I did pay but my laptop is a second PC and not my main machine. My desktop is beginning to age a little, I intend to upgrade it to an NVIDIA 1070 when I do upgrade. DJP
  5. I have done it both ways, I generally prefer the two wall way, using an interior wall with sheetrock on only one side. DJP
  6. Take a look at this You Tube video please: https://youtu.be/bMGPRzoTYCQ DJP
  7. Sounds like you exported the views from a layout page ( which is scaled to the intended paper size instead of 1' = 1' when you export from a plan view). Please do not do that. DJP
  8. Becky, Chief Architect Inc offers an anywhere tutorial service called "Personal Tutor" you can find information about that service on their website. I offer the same service at a lower rate, I use an application called "Got to Meeting" by CTRIX corp to work live with Home Designer and Chief Architect Inc users live over the internet since 1999. Lots of successes from my clients. Finding someone to come to your home is a little beyond the pale, the internet is the easiest most secure to obtain personalized help. DJP
  9. Look for the "Auto Stairwell" command in the Edit Toolbar when you select the stairs on the first floor. Or you can draw an Open Below room above the stairs using the Reference Display to properly align the walls of the Open Below room above the stairs. DJP
  10. If you have a common rafter vault the object you need to access is the roof planes which form the ceiling. If you have a scissor truss vault, then it is the custom ceiling planes dialog box that needs accessing. DJP
  11. My latest Project, a 26,000 SF home to be built in Pflugerville, Texas: https://skfb.ly/QqUY DJP
  12. Post a plan file and photos of the existing home please. DJP
  13. A material is two fold, one is a vector pattern for vector view cameras and the other part is a texture file for render cameras. When you customize a material you have to do both, otherwise you are merely half done. DJP
  14. There is no reason you cannot make such objects just using poly-line solids, blocked together and then made into a custom symbol, that is totally within the capabilities of Chief Premier since Version 9. DJP
  15. I use a CAD arrow placed on the "Electrical Connections" layer with the text set on the "Text, Electrical" layer "to switch upstairs", I repeat that on the second floor and use a 3 Way switch upstairs and down. DJP
  16. I always send the Engineer a PDF of my layout along with the plan view or elevation views so they can see the whole package DJP
  17. So the thing to do is to find out what version of AutoCAD the Engineer uses and export only to that version. You open your layout, double-click on the view you wish to export and then from that plan view, layer set and annotation set, your export will then match in every way your intended drawing when exported. DJP
  18. It is rather simple and straight forward. In order to share dwg versions of Chief Premier with AutoCAD you must export from plan view (in AutoCAD that is called "model space") where the native scale is real world or 1' = 1'. If you export directly from a layout you are exporting the view or drawing at the down scaled size to fit on a target piece of paper. If you do that the AutoCAD person has to then guess or figure out what paper size the file is. Another consideration is that exports from layout must match, version wise with the AutoCAD application that is to import them. So if you export to the current version of AutoCAD and your Engineer uses Version 14, he will not be able to open and edit your exported files. DJP
  19. Calling upon Chief Tech Support is your A#1 priority right now. I suspect that you have a hardware weak spot that needs attention (just a hunch). DJP
  20. I too have used Drop box for years but ONLY to share files with clients or to transfer files to my laptop. Therefore, I have not experienced what you have because I do not use it as you do. DJP
  21. I keep my plan files on a separate hard drive. mainly what I have on my C is all my programs, including Chief and Home Designer. Part of my business is helping others who use older versions of Chief and Home Designer (that makes for a lot of applications!), otherwise, if all I did was strictly for myself only, I would only have the latest Chief Premier version and nothing else. DJP
  22. I looked over your plan file and while doing so, videoed what I found at You Tube: https://youtu.be/Dg-CRNw0ukw DJP
  23. Such things require perseverance and the intention to get a product. This is a good place to start: http://www.mosa.com/generator/#search There are supplemental libraries you can download from the Chief Architect library catalog areas, check those out as well as the "Dal Tile" catalog. I am sure more sources can be located on line by search. DJP
  24. I often get where I read a post, decide to do a You Tube response. Create the video, upload it, by the time I am ready to post a link to the video, I have to refresh the Chief Talk or Home Talk post. There is no warning, just loss of communication line. I always copy my responses using text because in the past while posting, when I hit "Post" I am led back to the "Forums" area and my post is then lost unless I have already saved it to my Windows clipboard. Where a post is involved and requires research, this can be very annoying, especially if one does not save it first before sharing it with the gentle mercy's of this forum. DJP
