I agree with Perry in that I clean and vacuum my case and components at least once a month, not doing this can make your cooling system not function properly which leads to over heating which leads to hardware failures. You do not need to be a Geek to do that sort of maintenance, just read some articles on line FIRST to learn the basic procedures. DJP

1. Zoom in for greater control 2. See "Default Settings - Dimensions - Locate Objects Tab" 3. Check Default Settings - Framing and The Room Dialog for a Deck on its Structure Tab, build framing and then manually adjust or edit the results 4. Auto Interior dimensions kinda suck as we all know DJP

Layout Template Sheet Sets: What do you need?
DavidJPotter replied to olyconstruction's topic in General Q & A
I guess no one replied because it is up to you how you organize and set up your templates, just go for it, enjoy. DJP -
Clearly define what you mean by "White Board" please, don't make us guess please. DJP

No thank God, It could be weak RAM or a failing Mother Board but I am no Computer Geek, Perhaps a failing or slow cooling fan which causes components to overheat after a while. DJP

The forum for Home Designer Users is : https://hometalk.chiefarchitect.com/, this forum is for Chief Premier Users only. Any changes to the deck material should be made through its Room Specification Dialog - Structure Tab - Floor Finish box, using the eye- dropper or Material Spray Can can just waste time if you intend to be precise. Material for deck planking? What gives best realism in X8?
DavidJPotter replied to GeneDavis's topic in General Q & A
I always use "Deck Planking" in the Library Browser and then create from that same texture a "Bump Map" those two together give the best looking results. DJP -
Colour Elevations issue when updating
DavidJPotter replied to BuildingDesigner's topic in General Q & A
Why did you HAVE to relink the files? DJP -
Windows will not allow you to upload a file that is actively open in an application like Chief. Close Chief and then do the upload, if too large, then zip the file and upload the zip. Most of us will use the Auto Build Roof tool and then Manually Edit the results to exactly what we need and want. It is a learned skill DJP

I disagree with Robert on Chief being difficult for complex topography, The feature was added in Version 7 and has not changed much since then. It is a matter of learning to make a change with elevation objects and then evaluating that change before moving on to the next change. I have found that importing topography from surveyors or other software tends to create an unmanageable product, too complex for most personal computers to parse per second, so I try to keep mine as simple as possible using manually the tools at hand. I import a graphic topo and then trace over it, checking each change I make as I make it in camera views. DJP

I downloaded your .plan file and found NOTHING WRONG at all what so ever. Whether an overview, doll house or elevations, they all look just fine. The "the great room/dining area bar floors" also look fine on my PC. DJP

Some rugs in the Library browser are materials to be attached to objects like slabs or soffits and some are symbols with materials already assigned. DJP

Use a custom 3D molding poly line for that sort of applique. DJP

Reporting Section Marker Symbol in Layout

Here is a You Tube tutorial on using manual text call outs and saved cameras. https://youtu.be/wJepNQ_tNfM DJP -
I do not see any missing floors in your image. I do see incomplete Window wells (No hole in terrain) and you haven't yet ordered "Build Deck Framing" on both decks. It looks like you have improper settings in the first floor- Floor Structure and wrong settings in the basement DJP

In that area's Room Specification Dialog check to see if it is marked "Foundation Supplies Floor" on its "Structure Tab". DJP

I mainly use X8 but I have operative copies of Versions 7-X8 which includes V-10 DJP

Try it AFTER you have turned off "Auto Rebuild Roofs". I have never had a crash when doing the same thing you are doing so you must be doing it in a way that crashes the software. Start by turning off Auto Roofs and then try again. You should then use the "Edit Area All Floors" to do as you wish, I would not recommend "marquee select" in the case of multiple floors. There is probably nothing wrong with your software, the problem is resident in the method and manner you chose to use. DJP

The key to relationally correct framing is first: 1. Set all applicable floor platform thickness per floor (Make sure they are correct) 2. Set ceiling heights per floor 3. before building roofs make sure that the default settings for roof planes as well as on their "Structure Tab" is preset to how you are going to build, only then would you build roofs 4. Then recheck to make sure Chief is actually following your commands and settings, correct and rebuild framing as necessary. 5. Then you manually edit the auto-framing so it suits your desires Chief just fills in the spaces you create in the thickness of roof planes and the thickness of floor platforms, it does not do anything else, so if your spaces are set correctly and your defaults are set properly you will then get what you expected to get, but NOT otherwise. All the plans I create for others are delivered in PDF format since version 8, I have had no problems at all what so ever since then. DJP

Regular and auto generated walls are programmed to seek out and to be cut off by roof planes. DJP

It is part of Windows 10 by default. PDF Factory should be fine, I have also used CutePDF but I, like the others mainly use "Save as PDF that is built into Chief X7 and X8. I prefer Foxit Reader over Adobe Reader, it seems to be more stable on my PC than adobe DJP
