  1. You can globally turn them off (Display Options - Opening Indicators) or you can manually draw them where and as you require them, currently there is no "half-way" measure to do this by settings alone. DJP
  2. On the Casing Tab, uncheck "Apron" DJP
  3. Larry, I read your post a couple of times and I must say, I do not know what you are talking about in terms of automatic tendencies or behavior. When I do not want a space to be a deck, I give it some other room name and program its settings. I do not know what you are asking by : "Is there a way to retain the room def and not have it revert to Deck?", I mean , I experience this differently than you do I guess. I draw and program the spaces, not a mechanical device running automatically. Chief is merely a tool which you direct to a result, nothing more. DJP
  4. If X7 is slow, it is slow on your PC or Mac. On my PC it works fine. DJP
  5. Chief has a "Skylight tool" that works on any roof plane at any pitch or lack there of. DJP
  6. There is a beveled-framed mirror in the Library Browser, check it out. DJP
  7. Cultured Stone also has a "Brick" library that I use quite often (see Catalog Content Page on the Chief Website). I agree with Mick, I have downloaded and used the Acme Brick application to make my own brick textures, Boral also used to offer one similar to Acme's, do a search and try them out. DJP
  8. You would commonly use the "Custom Ceiling Plane" to do what I think you are speaking of, Wall placement has little to do with it other than as a support for Custom Ceiling Planes. Can you post an image or a copy of your plan? DJP
  9. Chief Inc has never to my knowledge made it possible to delete core library objects from the Library Browser. Is there some reason you would like to do this? If so,please call Tech Support to get the data from source. DJP
  10. I have had and used a laptop in the field for over two decades. Most people find 3D modeling interesting and enjoy watching me work. Regular renders are quite acceptable to most people. I often tweak the materials based upon their choices and often with an Interior Decorator also there. It's fun for just about everyone. Obviously if I sense that the client is NOT interested in the creative process, then I do not force it upon them, people are different but most find my own enthusiasm infectiously pleasing. DJP
  11. I have used Chief Premier for over 20 years. It always tends to add or subtract lines randomly. It has improved over the years but is still not "perfect". The "Saving Grace" is a tool that allows you to add, alter or delete lines at will once a view is sent to layout. It is called the "Edit Layout" tool, that is what you use to clean up lines that are missed or unwanted from a layout view (does not work on plan views but only isometric vector view renders, cross section and elevation vector camera views sent to layout. You have not done anything "wrong", rather you are just learning what Chief does and does not do and what you can do about it. DJP
  12. Were I you, I would "search" at 3D Warehouse and download any useful looking candidates. Any symbol's 2D block can be "inserted" from "CAD Block Management, exploded, manually edited and then reblocked and associated with any symbol, then added to your Library Browser. I do this from time to time for clarity. DJP
  13. The most important consideration is the likes, dislikes and bents of who is paying for the design, then I would consider general style of the surrounding neighborhood. Lots of places in the USA have H.O. A.'s that can and will critique a design and have rules. You just serve who you are creating for to the best of your abilities, often times the opinions of others are also important and must be weighed. DJP
  14. You use any version long enough, you will get crashes. I have not observed that X7 is any different than X6 other than improved functionality and additional tools. One's PC level of maintenance, its quality are more important and a wilder variable than the software. DJP
  15. Not happening on my PC's (3) DJP
  16. When is a wall not a wall? When it is actually a soffit, slab or poly-line solid. Walls can be a little tricky to precisely dimension so overlaying a pesky wall is sometimes a solution. In terms of the base cabinet counter top, well there are settings for that in the Cabinet Specification Dailog ("flat sides, flat back, overhang setting input etc). Just do what you must to get the look you require. DJP
  17. I have versions 7-X1 installed on a hard drive that runs XP x32. Versions X2-X7 I run on a hard drive that runs Windows 7 x64 I intend to add another SSD hard drive on which I will run Windows 10 when it comes out. There is NO "fits all" solution out there, things run in an environment they were designed to run in and that is that, the rest are just ways to waste time. DJP
  18. Some persons do not upgrade because they hate change and do not like spending the upgrade money. I have Versions 7-17 and many past and present versions of Home Designer software as part of my business (if a person has Chief Architect Premier X1 and still uses it, I need to be able to help that person in X1 etc). Those are the only reasons I can think of but you have to do what is right for you. DJP
  19. Ask their Sales Department, nothing but opinions from end users (I doubt it but like I said, ask) DJP
  20. The curved part of the ceiling is either a poly-line solid or molding profile and whatever it has, it also has a "Specification Dialog - Materials Tab". Use that to set and orientate the material for that and set the flat ceiling via its room dialog - Materials Tab. DJP
  21. I still run 7-X7 and all run just fine, so I agree with Jon in that it is probably something with your PC and its hardware as opposed to Chief (any version) DJP
  22. 3D symbols do not dimension as easily as 2D CAD objects, so sometimes you must use the dimension tool that creates its own dimension points, or use points or short CAD lines to dimension where the faces of a symbol do not dimension as you might want. In other words you do what you must, when you must. DJP
  23. Certain Structural Engineers I work with require 3D framing details, so I will then use 3D framing to portray those details. Most of the time I just just 2D Details but as I said, which ones I use I leave up to the PE I am drawing for, which varies from person to person. DJP
  24. You should be able to merely copy-paste Word Documents directly from Word to a Text box, I have done that for many years in many different versions without any trouble. DJP
