  1. For "simple" drawings you can start with Home Designer Interiors, Suite or Architectural which all have the ability to draw simple floor plans and 3D modeling (all under $200.00 each) Home Designer Pro allows for laid out printing up to 18" x 24" paper or PDF and has more sophisticated tools for creating roof designs (($495.00) See the Home Designer website for more details Then there are Chief Interiors and Chief Lite at 1,500.00 each (see the Chief Architect website - products for more info) Then Chief Premiere at $2,600.00 which can do it all You can download tree trial versions of the above software and see for yourself what is available. 2. What this person needs and wants is to get someone to measure and make a model of his existing home and then design an attic room there. I told him that he needs someone to come to his home to measure ect do do an acceptable job. He lives in Canada so I declined the pleasure. If you recognize his area code give him a call please. DJP
  3. Here is my attempt to help Roz: https://youtu.be/2YIXL7mChBI DJP
  4. Enjoyed your video Larry! How to do curved roofs is exactly the same in X7 as in X1 etc BTW. DJP
  5. Here is me fumbling around with your file, hope it helps you: http://youtu.be/s86EVCJf1DA DJP
  6. Here is me messing around with your file on You Tube: http://youtu.be/uW1Fb8qckJQ DJP
  7. The roof planes will not "automatically" move after merely resetting floor and room dialog box - ceiling heights. They must either be rebuilt in a new unit of time OR shift-selected and then manually moved UP by how much you added to each floor ceiling height. DJP
  8. Google got into some law suits in Europe over privacy issues and as a result they automatically smudge out things like faces and signs (not everything) but based upon their own experience and law suits. DJP
  9. https://skfb.ly/DIyu It is a nice way to share your 3D models and it is free. DJP
  10. I cannot see the exterior side of your photo but from the inside it merely looks like the window is framed into a 10" thick wall as opposed to being a box window in the usual sense (a window that projects out of the wall in which it is framed). There is a box bay window tool and there is a "Garden Window" symbol. If you can say with certainty what the window looks like on the exterior side, I think a more positive and certain answer might then be offered. DJP
  11. Matt, I read your post a couple of times yesterday and decided not to respond because I do not know what you are talking about, I mean why would one need or want to "suppress a dimension value"? Is that something you did often in your drawings? I see no one else has responded, so that encouraged me to stick my foot in it and ask. DJP
  12. Totally awesome Joke, well done! DJP
  13. Bill and Mick are correct in that default changes do not immediately take effect, you must either have "Auto Framing" checked "on" OR manually order the framing rebuilt after making the default changes, it is not automatic unless you order it so, manually. DJP
  14. You can globally turn them off (Display Options - Opening Indicators) or you can manually draw them where and as you require them, currently there is no "half-way" measure to do this by settings alone. DJP
  15. On the Casing Tab, uncheck "Apron" DJP
  16. Larry, I read your post a couple of times and I must say, I do not know what you are talking about in terms of automatic tendencies or behavior. When I do not want a space to be a deck, I give it some other room name and program its settings. I do not know what you are asking by : "Is there a way to retain the room def and not have it revert to Deck?", I mean , I experience this differently than you do I guess. I draw and program the spaces, not a mechanical device running automatically. Chief is merely a tool which you direct to a result, nothing more. DJP
  17. If X7 is slow, it is slow on your PC or Mac. On my PC it works fine. DJP
  18. Chief has a "Skylight tool" that works on any roof plane at any pitch or lack there of. DJP
  19. There is a beveled-framed mirror in the Library Browser, check it out. DJP
  20. Cultured Stone also has a "Brick" library that I use quite often (see Catalog Content Page on the Chief Website). I agree with Mick, I have downloaded and used the Acme Brick application to make my own brick textures, Boral also used to offer one similar to Acme's, do a search and try them out. DJP
  21. You would commonly use the "Custom Ceiling Plane" to do what I think you are speaking of, Wall placement has little to do with it other than as a support for Custom Ceiling Planes. Can you post an image or a copy of your plan? DJP
  22. Chief Inc has never to my knowledge made it possible to delete core library objects from the Library Browser. Is there some reason you would like to do this? If so,please call Tech Support to get the data from source. DJP
  23. I have had and used a laptop in the field for over two decades. Most people find 3D modeling interesting and enjoy watching me work. Regular renders are quite acceptable to most people. I often tweak the materials based upon their choices and often with an Interior Decorator also there. It's fun for just about everyone. Obviously if I sense that the client is NOT interested in the creative process, then I do not force it upon them, people are different but most find my own enthusiasm infectiously pleasing. DJP
