  1. In your Roof Specification Dialog you turn on (check) "Boxed Eaves" and in the wall dialog box you turn off the returns. DJP
  2. Here is me stumbling around with your plan on You Tube: http://youtu.be/9ro4NiQucK8 DJP
  3. Scott, X6 and X7's terrain tools are identical. I haven't had a real problem with terrain since Version 7 where it was introduced. DJP
  4. The entire point of Layers, layer sets and annotation sets is to provide one the ability to organize one's data and break that data down into various groups of displays that communicate the plan. Even for a single story home, I might have several different displays of that floor plan that communicate different groups of information (Plan View Structural, Plan View Electric, Plan View HVAC layout, and on and on, as many individual displays that together communicate all necessary data. Chief provides plenty of opportunities to do this in whatever style you might choose. DJP
  5. I use Chief for screen time measuring and do my billing and accounting using Quicken for Home and Business, works for me. DJP
  6. Windows 7 x64 I have used since it was first released. I believe Windows 8.1 is another good choice (Windows 8 is not, coming from XP as you are). Windows 10 is a free upgrade when it is released for current users of Windows 7, 8 and 8.1. DJP
  7. Place invisible walls that line up with the walls below and that space can then be "Open Below" the other two slivers defined by the invisible walls and visible walls will merely be second floor space. DJP
  8. It is easy, if you've got the money, Honey, they have the time..." DJP
  9. I think what you are seeing is merely Chief Architect being itself to the degree that it has some basic functions in terms of creating automaticly generated walls often whether they might or might be wanted in plan view or not. These walls are always to be identified by opening their dialog box-General Tab and they will be checked "No Room Define, No Locate and Attic Wall", that is how they can be identified for sure. They reside automatically on a layer called "Walls, Attic" and so can be turned on or off in plan or camera views. Deleting such walls merely prompts Chief to instantly replace them. This function can be turned off in "3D Preferences" but you will then have holes and missing rake walls in your elevation and camera views. Like Joe said, we are not clairvoyant or psychic so also posting images and or a copy of your problem plan helps those who would want to help you. DJP
  10. Greg, Chief Inc also makes a consumer version of Chief Premier called "Home Designer" which has several titles in each version. Currently they are "Home Designer Pro, Home Designer Architectural , Home Designer Suite and Home Designer Interiors. The Home Designer Line of software is sold at COSTCO and other big box stores, Amazon.com and via the Home Designer Website. DJP
  11. Chief Architect rewrites how layers are handled and added annotation sets more recently, so older plans written as they were then get kinda "lost in translation". To me, the amazing thing is that they can be brought forward as well as they currently do. The older the file, the more doctoring it must have when brought forward. You will have to ask that question directly to one or more of the egg heads who create the code on which Chief runs to get a more lucid answer. DJP
  12. For "simple" drawings you can start with Home Designer Interiors, Suite or Architectural which all have the ability to draw simple floor plans and 3D modeling (all under $200.00 each) Home Designer Pro allows for laid out printing up to 18" x 24" paper or PDF and has more sophisticated tools for creating roof designs (($495.00) See the Home Designer website for more details Then there are Chief Interiors and Chief Lite at 1,500.00 each (see the Chief Architect website - products for more info) Then Chief Premiere at $2,600.00 which can do it all You can download tree trial versions of the above software and see for yourself what is available. 13. What this person needs and wants is to get someone to measure and make a model of his existing home and then design an attic room there. I told him that he needs someone to come to his home to measure ect do do an acceptable job. He lives in Canada so I declined the pleasure. If you recognize his area code give him a call please. DJP

  15. Enjoyed your video Larry! How to do curved roofs is exactly the same in X7 as in X1 etc BTW. DJP
  16. Here is me fumbling around with your file, hope it helps you: http://youtu.be/s86EVCJf1DA DJP

  18. The roof planes will not "automatically" move after merely resetting floor and room dialog box - ceiling heights. They must either be rebuilt in a new unit of time OR shift-selected and then manually moved UP by how much you added to each floor ceiling height. DJP
  19. Google got into some law suits in Europe over privacy issues and as a result they automatically smudge out things like faces and signs (not everything) but based upon their own experience and law suits. DJP
  20. https://skfb.ly/DIyu It is a nice way to share your 3D models and it is free. DJP
  21. I cannot see the exterior side of your photo but from the inside it merely looks like the window is framed into a 10" thick wall as opposed to being a box window in the usual sense (a window that projects out of the wall in which it is framed). There is a box bay window tool and there is a "Garden Window" symbol. If you can say with certainty what the window looks like on the exterior side, I think a more positive and certain answer might then be offered. DJP
  22. Matt, I read your post a couple of times yesterday and decided not to respond because I do not know what you are talking about, I mean why would one need or want to "suppress a dimension value"? Is that something you did often in your drawings? I see no one else has responded, so that encouraged me to stick my foot in it and ask. DJP
  23. Totally awesome Joke, well done! DJP
  24. Bill and Mick are correct in that default changes do not immediately take effect, you must either have "Auto Framing" checked "on" OR manually order the framing rebuilt after making the default changes, it is not automatic unless you order it so, manually. DJP
