It looks to me like the simplest would be to copy the cad profile and convert it into a p-solid in the elevation view. Then, simply set the thickness, material and layer.

You only need a room at the top of the stairs. Simply draw the stairs and landings and Chief will automatically adjust the height to hit the terrain...if you have one! And remember to use the alt key to draw the first set, from the top down.

This hasn't been my experience. If you can post the plan, I may be able to offer some suggestions.

Hi Sandi, I actually made my own material for this type of siding, however the closest in Chief's Library would probably be from the Clopy catalog. If you have that catalog downloaded, then just type 'tongue' into the library browser.

For some of those issues, you need to change which part of the pony wall is displayed in plan view so that you can manually adjust the wall connections separately per upper or lower wall.

@mLongChief That makes sense. We were expecting "Automatic' base on the room definition. From Help: When Allow Automatic Balloon Framing is checked, walls adjacent to Open Below rooms are balloon-framed. Uncheck this box to instead produce wall plates separated by rim joists instead. See Effects of Room Functions. This isn't a huge deal, but I don't think "Help" is explaining this the same as what you explained in your more detailed post above. Thanks for the clarification though...just gotta lock this one in the old memory bank for future use! This is a bit easier to remember for me because in my region we'd typically upsize to a 2x8 wall for 2-story conditions so a wall break and wall type change are normal to the process.

Can Chief plot those latitude and longitude points? When I import the data, and make a scale assumption based on a decent guess of the lot dimensions, the elevation data that is imported is not laid out in an overall shape that matches the subject property at all, even assuming that scale is off.

I can get it imported but without knowing the lot dimensions, scaling the data in the x and y axis is a crapshoot. If you have a survey drawing with elevation points or topo lines I can build the terrain manually much simpler than this data import. It has too many points, and even reducing them creates a serious mess!

The first thing you'll need to do with the data is delete all the rows / columns / cells that are not a numerical data point.

I'd recommend using a legend to identify the different callouts.

You can use the slab tools to create the drywall / layers between the joist top chords. They'll fill as concrete in section view. You can add the metal channel and drywall layers to the ceiling finish definition for the room below. Set their fills in the ceiling finish dialog. Use a dashed cad line to represent the green glue in cad details.

Same here. I keep a crying towel on my desk when it's time to detail sections.

I've suggested to Chief that they add a column to wall definitions for section display control of wall layers. Then we could choose a separate fill for each wall layer and a weight and color for insulation. Of course we'd also need Chief to place these items correctly for auto fill to work better. Currently they are on top of wall framing, so every section view constantly requires the exact same edits (not a PITA at all)...that is, if you actually use the auto-fill tool.

An invisible wall, 1/2" thick, using your drywall material is very helpful for these situations. Place it at the same location as the break in the stairs, set to through wall at start and end. Break the 2x4 wall, and reverse the layers of one side.

It comes from the exterior material of the railing wall above it.
