  1. Tom Silva: Every now & then you get lucky!
  2. This is best to note near the beginning of a plan set in your general notes. In Medicine Hat for example, no one frames to the sheathing, but go an hour north, and no one seems to have ever heard of measuring to the stud. So, when I know the regional preference, I make sure to note this in my General Notes.
  3. Take that pony wall on the 2nd floor and copy-in-place on the first floor. Delete it on the 2nd floor.
  4. Because now that's only a $40K upgrade instead of $50?
  5. And FWIW, I would only use images for this purpose just to make sure Chief doesn't sneak a layout view away from me while I'm not looking.
  6. Hey Kevin, you just gotta be a bit more careful placing these items. Space them out and you'll be fine! kevs_hood.mp4
  7. It's not odd, they aren't in the same location!
  8. I've done this type of thing without any of these difficulties, however I would have approached it differently. I wouldn't have used 3 cameras in the same location. I'd have replicated them away from each other in either the y or x axis. I also wouldn't have used 3 separate symbols. Rather, each view would show additional items, not different items. I'd have started with the framing and a camera, replicate, then add sheathing, replicate then add finish material. These won't jump...I guarantee it. I've been using the same camera views and updating and exchanging images hundreds of items over the years. They always land in the same spot.
  9. Notice that the camera jumps between view2 and view 3. That's odd.
  10. Maybe this would be a good starting point. You can always try copying a 24x12 tile normal map for grout joints.
  11. Daltile has one that's pretty close. A little low res though. Search the library for Snow Waves Deco J400
  12. Can you post a sketch of what you have in mind, or an example from a previous project? Google didn't help.
  13. You'd like a casement window above or below a fixed window, correct?
  14. You may not have clicked "Make Shadow". This generates a plan view polyline representation of the shadow. However, that will NOT provide the information necessary to answer The City's questions about shadows affecting the adjacent property. That will require a 3d representation including a basic 3D model of the affected home. You can probably accurately plot and model the adjacent home (in a simple shape form) using information from Google Earth, Street View, and / or other resources. Model it like a Monopoly House play piece.
  15. I do! But as you mentioned, if your concrete is 'concrete' then you're SOL. And if you edit the material to 'other' than the BP goes all the way through. And to set the record straight on my priorities / skills / knowledge, I would never mess around with BS like this other than to take a break from actual work! And I can't tell you how much fun I had creating a beam pocket symbol.
  16. Nice work Larry! Did you notice that in an earlier post I attached a beam pocket symbol? just wondering if you had tried it out. Eric's method works well for what you wanted to achieve...that clean look in 3D. And thanks for reminding me that I'm still out of coffee! I better get on that or tomorrow am will be rough!
  17. Eric, I don't suppose you tried that method out for an inside corner of a foundation wall, did you? That ain't gonna work, right?
  18. @Larry_Sweeney I made this symbol because it can be placed anywhere. Of course for it to really be useful, you'd need to create a library of BP's edited for your typical beams and wall types. But, it will not get rid of the top face of the concrete wall. BP.calibz
  19. @solver Not bad! I wonder if the merging that Chief will undoubtedly do can be eliminated by placing the BP wall on a different layer? It seems workable, just not reasonable:)
  20. I think the real answer is a feature request that beams create pockets in masonry walls and allow a BP label at the start and / or end.
  21. This doesn't work in some places anyways. Chief won't let me put this BP right to the inside corner of the concrete wall.
