  1. Thanks. JoeyB in New Orleans did you find what you needed to see?
  2. I will try and fix the link. There is/was a set of plan prepared by me on the Chief Architect website as well.
  3. Do you still have the template plan I sent to you? I set my line weights different than others, but it works for me. 0 is the smallest, 20 is the largest. There are a couple other settings that need to be adjusted so that it works out on paper.
  4. You have wall layers on the wrong side You have walls that are not 90degrees in the corners You have either an invisible wall, or a mis-alligned wall with a wall below that is creating an attic wall that is cutting the wall above it. But I am just going of what is in the pic.
  5. Yes, half walls and place a solid cap on it. Just like you would build it.
  6. I don't like the cabinet method. But you can use walls so that the materials list accounts for the stone and lumber. Just be sure to check the no room definition checkbox.
  7. My desktop, which is about 3 months old, has become one step above a doorstop. When I can get Chief to run, every move takes about 15 - 20 seconds to complete. I get little to no internet connection most of the time, and on certain days nothing works. I reboot and everything seems ok for a while. Today it took 2 reboots and 15 mins to get Chief up and running and in the time it takes to type this, I can maybe change a bathtub to a shower....maybe....if I'm lucky and say pretty please... Everything was fine until about 10 days ago. I came into the office and there was a message that windows had updated. Now, for the better part of decade I turned off auto updates because of bad experiences with them. The tech guys that sold me this computer said that I should always leave them on and let windows update for me. Well, I did...and now flashback to the bad experiences.
  8. I can't get Chief to Start!! X7 has been doing this (Product Activation Window is on the Screen) for about an hour, after waiting about 30 mins to even get to this point. X6 won't start at all. Has there been an update that has caused this? Anyone else? Windows 8 BTW...I would love to show you a screen capture, but that has stopped working as well. Tried System Restore but that doesn't work either.....going to take the dog for a walk before I break something.
  9. I offer online training and am wiling to travel as needed. Shoot me an email. joeymdp@gmail.com
  10. Nice workaround. But the horizontal isnt a muntin. Schedule would be wrong.
  11. Templates and a few library items are in the dropbox. I guess I use the OOB library more than some, so I rarely have an issue where my plan file is looking for something that isn't in the library.
  12. Yes. Plan and layout files go in the dropbox so that I can work on them anywhere and have everything updated as needed. I also keep all my client folders in the Dropbox as well. Everything I need to run my office is in the dropbox. Goes with me everywhere...PC's, IPad, Phone...etc.
  13. I keep all plan files in Dropbox.
  14. For mine just take an elevation view and change to watercolor. Notice in the dbx there is a checkbox that will add the lines for it. Click that box and set the settings, click the final view with shadows button, and there you go. Here is another...
  15. I have had success doing presentation elevations with Chief. I havent tried the B/W like in your pic, and I thought you were asking about that elevation as it pertains to construction documents. I use the watercolor option with the line overlay. This was one elevation shot, set the settings to what I like and go.
  16. Chief can not AUTO produce elevations like that. Looks like a VW elevation. In Chief you would have to add CAD boxes to get the dark glass and would most likely have to add shadows as well using CAD boxes.
  17. Depends on the situation. I rarely...RARELY...put the basement on anything other than floor 0, But in my situation it works without flaws. Others have a different view. https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/index.php?/topic/5059-basement-on-level-1-or-level-0-videos-by-dsh/
  18. My 2 cents is..if your office is going to go with Chief, then the office standard needs to change or you get bogged down with masking doors and windows. Creating a RCP is a piece of cake, unless you make it harder by trying to work against the software you are using.
  19. 1)The geometry doesn't work. The angle on the opposite side will not allow the planes to meet properly. You can try to manually make it work, but it's not going to look like you want. 2) Round roof planes are tough. A lot of trial and error, but make sure all your walls are properly aligned. 3) In the roof DBX raise the heel off the plate the desired amount. 4) Not likely.
  20. This is fairly painless. I used Squiggle... http://www.paolocasella.it/drivers/_holland/squiggle/squiggleEnglish.htm Export the plan dwg and import in. Took less than 2 mins, just not native Chief.
  21. Take the full overview, set the slider, and change to line drawing. I know this isn't what you want, but it's as close as we can get that I know of.
  22. I have had some luck in the past with this.... http://www.fotosketcher.com/ Or export the plan view DXF/DWG to sketchup and create the style you are after. Though that requires some cleanup.
  23. I think by calling the space "attic" by default tells Chief you are going to use it for some sort of storage. Try leaving the space defined as "unspecified" and make sure the box is checked to leave those rooms out of the room schedule and see if that gives you what you are after. Attached is a detail of what I think is a similar situation. Notice to the right of my knee wall there is no decking. I did not label that area as attic, so there is no floor decking by default.
  24. Save the layout and close Chief. Place the layout file in a ZIP folder and attach in the MORE REPLY OPTIONS area.
