  1. I have had some luck in the past with this.... http://www.fotosketcher.com/ Or export the plan view DXF/DWG to sketchup and create the style you are after. Though that requires some cleanup.
  2. I think by calling the space "attic" by default tells Chief you are going to use it for some sort of storage. Try leaving the space defined as "unspecified" and make sure the box is checked to leave those rooms out of the room schedule and see if that gives you what you are after. Attached is a detail of what I think is a similar situation. Notice to the right of my knee wall there is no decking. I did not label that area as attic, so there is no floor decking by default.
  3. Save the layout and close Chief. Place the layout file in a ZIP folder and attach in the MORE REPLY OPTIONS area.
  4. I use the labels for sections, elevations, and details, not so much for plan views so I just suppress the view in plan.
  5. One of my computers does that from time to time....video card issue. Save and restart Chief and it should correct itself. If not, restart the machine.
  6. I would talk with the architect. Tell him you noticed the problem, but thought it was suppose to be like that...it's not all that uncommon for a roof to cut a ceiling plane. Perhaps he will hire you to model more homes and look for things he may have missed.
  7. It includes everything in the model. Nothing more, nothing less.
  8. Once in the materials list you can control the categories that are shown before you do an export. They act as "layers". Just turn off all the furniture layers, fixture layers, etc...before doing the export to excel.
  9. The attic walls are labeled as no room definition by default. Changes those attic walls to allow room definition and you can select the room.
  10. Just printed an 11x17 page on the Epson from a PDF plan set, wireless set up, took about 12 seconds.
  11. Use the LANDING tool to create the lower section of stairs and attach the straight run to the top.
  12. I don't think its a workaround? For as long as I have been using Chief I have always printed to PDF first, and then to the printer if need be. I have had my Epson WF for about a month and have had no issues with it.
  13. Just point the new version towards the template. I keep my templates in a dropbox folder, so I just point the new version to the template.
  14. I have no idea what has happened...but this is the second plan sent to me from X7 that has double floors.

  16. Did you remember to hit the AUTO DETAIL button to get the fills to show?
  17. Nope...have to place them manually with roof tools to get that. Unless X7 has changed...I havent jumped into X7 fully yet.
  18. First thing I tell people that take my training class is to stop fighting the software. Those little hiccups happen from time to time during the design process, just keep going. The will either correct themselves, or you will have a little cleanup to do at the end. I view it as a punchlist of cleanup items. You will be surprised at how many time time these issues fix themselves, so don't interrupt your work flow, just keep designing and come back to them during a punchlist break.
  19. My room dims are macros and not auto generated. I use macros for greater control over when and where they show. I also don't generally show dims in small rooms either.
  20. All 4", maybe some 5" in there somewhere but I keep everything pretty uniform.
  21. Also remember rules of dimensioning. Don't dimension interior walls that are attached to and dimensioned in an exterior string. I see many plans sent to me for clean-up that have dozens of repeated dimensions all over the page. I also use 4" for general text, 5/6 for callouts, 7 bold for room labels.

  23. I rarely do remodel/addition work, but I am working on a T.I. for a new restaurant and I am using 2 plan files.
  24. Because notice the ceiling and floor areas in the structure tab have a FINISH area to specify the color. If you added a thin paint layer to the walls, it would show as well I think. I always remove them so that my schedule only displays the drywall size I am using.
