Using the same lineweight for elevations makes them hard to read the edge lines. And you don't need the view to cad tool for elevation and sections to control the lineweight, you can use an anno set with a layer set for those views that control them.

Set it up in the roof and wall dbx before hand.

Depends on what it's for I guess. There are no dimensions, no driveways or utilities located, no setbacks marked, etc... Even in my jurisdiction, which is super easy to get a permit, the process would have stopped at the lack of site info and been sent back to me for corrections.

Look in the library. There are some in there.

I think first, you need an understanding of how Chief came up with the numbers to begin with. Chiefs line weight numbers are base off old pen plotter sizes for the pens..ie...0.18. .35, etc. I think very few use those old pen plotter any longer, and the newer batch of architects and designers coming out of school have never even seen a pen plotter. So... I came up with a system that makes more sense to me, and to those that I have worked with. I played with these settings until I found a combination that I liked... ...so that 0 is my smallest line and 20 is my largest. I then went through all my layer sets and made the line weights what they needed to be. My floor plan(s) for example... my outside wall later is a 10 and all inside walls and inside layer of outside walls are a 6. Hidden lines are a 3, counter tops a 6, etc... Hope that helps.

It's not that I am for or against per say, just a different view as they are concerned. They weren't/aren't for me, and just bring up that they are not necessary to be efficient.

@skoz44 does that method not work for you any longer? A perspective from the other side of the isle....if it take 2 pages of comments from people and a bunch of back and forth to try and explain why you should be using saved plan views, then perhaps you don't need saved plan views. I spent about an hour looking over them and moved on. I will keep my Anno Sets and my template plan.

Use a ramp.

I have them saved on my template plan. When I open Chief and hit NEW PLAN, this is what I see... Key notes that are on every plan, schedules ready to populate for doors, windows, beams, and posts, and the little tick mark on the right is 0,0 coordinate so that the back left corner of every plan starts at that coordinate.

You have inadvertently clicked on the layout. probably on page 0. Been there done that. So annoying but easily fixable.

I use drop box and tag files for subs. Doe_John - Rev 3 01_01_2020 for example.

For connection...cut roof plane back and add attic wall. For the gap in the new roof, look at the settings for the sub-fascia. Looks like it's pushing that plane down.

I'm not sure if one way is right or wrong per say. I leave them in my plan view and don't seem to have any issues. To each his own I guess.

Not at all what you want to hear but....I used X6 on a pretty solid HP desktop when it came out. A year later X7 came out and WOULD NOT RUN!! I would have a model with 4 walls..nothing more, just 4 walls, move a wall and had time to go make a sandwich to wait for the lag. X6 worked fine, another year later X8 worked fine. I was never able to use X7. Chief and I tried for a week to figure out what was up, and nothing. Finally had to get back to work and just skipped X7 all together. I think there are some versions that for whatever reason do not play well with certain machines. X10 is a bit "laggy" on my current HP, but X11 and X12 are fine.

May I ask...why are you sending these to AutoCAD? Why not just send to layout?

Ahh...you are exporting from layout, that's a no-go....export from the model view.

Just because they are in your layer set, doesn't mean they show. Which one of these boxes to you have checked?

Most AutoCAD users, by default, work with a black background. Chief is exporting the layers as black lines. Have them either change the background, or go to layer settings and change the color of the missing lines.

With all due respect, you need to re-evaluate your business model. It looks, and reads, like you want more than a draftsman in the office if you are going to be picking his/her brain for design input to the point you would expect them to insure themselves AND work full time in YOUR office....that's a big fat nope. The person you are looking for would be making just a couple bucks an hour after paying for all that insurance to work in YOUR office.

I don't view it as a workaround. I design/model just like we build. I don't expect the concrete guys to deal with multiple "wall layers". Build the model just like it's built in the field and you have a lot less headaches.
