  1. great question Ron, the plates go down. I want top plates to stay at same location. I have 4x6 rafters on a 2X12 WALL, 2X12 WALL, I want to raise roof 2" but I want the top plates to stay at same elevation... by changing the birds mouth or cut, I should be able to do that. I think what I am realizing is we must define the birds mouth cut prior to building roof, not after.... I assume this makes sense..... RAISE ROOF 4%22 KEEP TOP PLATES AT SAME ELEV 1.plan.zip
  2. Can I not change the birds mouth cut on the fly? Roof built, I want to change the birds mouth cut...... I can't do it, is this so?
  3. Nice suggestion about the angle, but wouldn't this only apply to 3d trees and not 2d trees?
  4. Show me a pic of the view that you want shadows on. Is it a vector view or a normal/render view? I bet it is a vector view. In X6 you should be able to get QUICK SHADOWS which means you should never have to use FINAL VIEW WITH SHADOWS. I never use that anymore, I always get shadows with any render/normal view I take. If quick shadows is turned on, you will always get shadows.
  5. Take the camera view and then change it or change the default camera type in the default settings.
  6. Jeez, a track pad, my gosh, I give you credit for working with that...... I have tried the track pad and I think I am too uncoordinated to use it.
  7. I am not sure which mouse you are using, I have an IMAC and in the beginning I was using the APPLE MOUSE, I hated it when working with the MAC. I have since bought a LOGITECK USB mouse with a scroll wheel and I love it. But I do not know how to alter the PREFERENCES for the mouse but that is okay, I like it as is. I have a mouse on the home MAC and I hate that mouse, ain't that funny, I use it but I suppose I would rather have another logitech mouse for the home mac but I am too lazy to deal with it. Again I will say, you may want to consider getting another mouse for the mac, I found the mac mouse was tough to work with.
  8. I do not have an idea. It may be mouse related. I do not understand the "pinching process". I would rather my scroll wheel zooms instead of scrolls. With the scroll wheel I can QUICKLY zoom out and then QUICKLY zoom in to the area I would like to see. Bottom line, I think the scroll wheel is controlled by the mouse preferences. I will say it again, I would rather the scroll wheel zoom in and zoom out vs scroll to another part of plan. Give that a try and see if you like it, if not, check your mouse preferences for what the scroll wheel controls, whether it is a zoom control or a scroll control.
  9. Oh, so that is what that was all about...... I never made the connection..... believe me, no pun intended,,,,
  10. We can only hope they have fixed this in X7. We should be able to build a wall with two rows of 2x4 studs, and both rows frame. As it is now, only one row of studs (the main layer) will frame.
  11. Put those items on the layer you want them on, select all and block, send to library, open new plan, get them from library, paste in plan, unblock, they will be on layer you want. Actually faster than individually selecting from library. A huger time saver. Credit to Alan.
  12. Jim, I just checked, and you are correct, the beams stay in place. I swear in an earlier version, maybe x4, I would draw a floor beam and it would disappear. I did vids on this. Maybe I was wrong back then, but now CA seems to be behaving very well now in regards to building FRAMING MEMBERS....
  13. Great post Joey, thanks.
  14. That's a hundred projects a year. Over 40 years I have done between 2000 - 3000 projects. I could of Completed more, but I was busy getting thrashed on the golf course by JC.
  15. Jeez, can you put a window in a railing? A door yes but not a window...... Nuts, something else I must check on.
  16. I'm not sure if CA ignores General framing member when auto rebuilding. It seems that at one time I had to build general framing member OUTSIDE of building and then move in place. But you may be correct now Jim, I must double check.
  17. I think my way is best, but don't rule out what Jim said. I think there is some merit to what he is talking about. What he is saying in effect is build the trusses in a new plan in the same exact location (relative to the world), and once you have them built in the "SHADOW PLAN", you can select trusses, LOCK THEM , copy, go to THE REAL PLAN, and paste in location. Roofs can be tricky, you really need to know what you are doing to take advantage of the many different options you have.
  18. Thanks TB for the input. That is the approach I always took until I started losing pdf's when I went from MAC to PC. Now I save all in plan. I think the downside is larger files.... but my files are so large already..... I have give up and resorted to using DROPBOX,,,,, I should say I am going to try it for awhile until I get negative feedback. Anybody else know of any drawback to the SAVE IN PLAN option for pdf's and jpeg's?
  19. Amy, this sounds like a sound approach, but then you must SAVE IN PLAN. I have even larger issues since I seem to have to go back and forth between a MAC and a PC. I think I have sort of given up, I started drinking the Kool-Aid, and started saving things in plan. Downside? I think large files. But since I am on a MAC and my files are greater than my golf handicap, I have resorted to using drop box. Does anybody now of a big downside the SAVE IN PLAN approach. Is it really bad practice to go with the SAVE IN PLAN?
  20. Just do what you want to do with a wall. Build a wall. Put a door opening or a window in it. You are done. Terrain retaining wall is a different animal. You can take the wall you just built and make it a terrain retaining wall if you want via dvx......... I have done many vids on walls at CHIEFTUTOR.COM. The terrain wall you are using has many limitations, it has it's uses but not for what you want to do..... you are just beginning to learn, it will take some study time to understand the different options that are available to you to accomplish what you want to do.
  21. I do not believe it, I think you may be using incorrect nomenclature...... I do not mean to rag on you, I am simply trying to be very clear. And then it may be I who is using the incorrect nomenclature. I just tried put a window/door into a WALL DEFINED AS A TERRAIN RETAINING WALL.... it works..... maybe I do not know what a TERRAIN WALL IS.... or should I say I do not understand how you created your TERRAIN WALL. Nomenclature is so important when discussing CA..... I am sure you will figure it out.
  22. Okay, probably the perfect answer. But just to confirm...... If I had a 5' thick driveway, would that effect the transparent terrain height.
  23. I think I understand the issue. Those trusses need to go one the second level. You need to build a floor with a 1-1/2" ceiling height above the 2x10's. You must understand those trusses need a ceiling. You are already defining a ceiling with 2x10's. Build another floor level.
