  1. We can only hope they have fixed this in X7. We should be able to build a wall with two rows of 2x4 studs, and both rows frame. As it is now, only one row of studs (the main layer) will frame.
  2. Put those items on the layer you want them on, select all and block, send to library, open new plan, get them from library, paste in plan, unblock, they will be on layer you want. Actually faster than individually selecting from library. A huger time saver. Credit to Alan.
  3. Jim, I just checked, and you are correct, the beams stay in place. I swear in an earlier version, maybe x4, I would draw a floor beam and it would disappear. I did vids on this. Maybe I was wrong back then, but now CA seems to be behaving very well now in regards to building FRAMING MEMBERS....
  4. Great post Joey, thanks.
  5. That's a hundred projects a year. Over 40 years I have done between 2000 - 3000 projects. I could of Completed more, but I was busy getting thrashed on the golf course by JC.
  6. Jeez, can you put a window in a railing? A door yes but not a window...... Nuts, something else I must check on.
  7. I'm not sure if CA ignores General framing member when auto rebuilding. It seems that at one time I had to build general framing member OUTSIDE of building and then move in place. But you may be correct now Jim, I must double check.
  8. I think my way is best, but don't rule out what Jim said. I think there is some merit to what he is talking about. What he is saying in effect is build the trusses in a new plan in the same exact location (relative to the world), and once you have them built in the "SHADOW PLAN", you can select trusses, LOCK THEM , copy, go to THE REAL PLAN, and paste in location. Roofs can be tricky, you really need to know what you are doing to take advantage of the many different options you have.
  9. Thanks TB for the input. That is the approach I always took until I started losing pdf's when I went from MAC to PC. Now I save all in plan. I think the downside is larger files.... but my files are so large already..... I have give up and resorted to using DROPBOX,,,,, I should say I am going to try it for awhile until I get negative feedback. Anybody else know of any drawback to the SAVE IN PLAN option for pdf's and jpeg's?
  10. Amy, this sounds like a sound approach, but then you must SAVE IN PLAN. I have even larger issues since I seem to have to go back and forth between a MAC and a PC. I think I have sort of given up, I started drinking the Kool-Aid, and started saving things in plan. Downside? I think large files. But since I am on a MAC and my files are greater than my golf handicap, I have resorted to using drop box. Does anybody now of a big downside the SAVE IN PLAN approach. Is it really bad practice to go with the SAVE IN PLAN?
  11. Just do what you want to do with a wall. Build a wall. Put a door opening or a window in it. You are done. Terrain retaining wall is a different animal. You can take the wall you just built and make it a terrain retaining wall if you want via dvx......... I have done many vids on walls at CHIEFTUTOR.COM. The terrain wall you are using has many limitations, it has it's uses but not for what you want to do..... you are just beginning to learn, it will take some study time to understand the different options that are available to you to accomplish what you want to do.
  12. I do not believe it, I think you may be using incorrect nomenclature...... I do not mean to rag on you, I am simply trying to be very clear. And then it may be I who is using the incorrect nomenclature. I just tried put a window/door into a WALL DEFINED AS A TERRAIN RETAINING WALL.... it works..... maybe I do not know what a TERRAIN WALL IS.... or should I say I do not understand how you created your TERRAIN WALL. Nomenclature is so important when discussing CA..... I am sure you will figure it out.
  13. Okay, probably the perfect answer. But just to confirm...... If I had a 5' thick driveway, would that effect the transparent terrain height.
  14. I think I understand the issue. Those trusses need to go one the second level. You need to build a floor with a 1-1/2" ceiling height above the 2x10's. You must understand those trusses need a ceiling. You are already defining a ceiling with 2x10's. Build another floor level.
  15. I used a PC for seven years, been using IMAC for two years. PC was great, MAC took a couple of months to get comfortable with. Love the MAC now. CA will run great on both computers. Get the latest IMAC and you should be good to go. The power Mac Is not worth it. Just get the latest Imac with all the goodies.
  16. Dog gone you, I was hoping you would let me of the hook....... I can't think of anything but repeat copy....... Okay, maybe in X7 they will have something where we can match properties..... .... if anybody can think of another purpose for the STICKY TOOL other than repeat copy, please let us know.
  17. LOL..... don't ask me to tag along.
  18. That is a good point..... I am thinking of how I would use it other than for REPEATED COPIES....... hmmm... not sure if i can come up with an alternative usage........ dog gone you michaelgia, I am stumped...... give me a couple of minutes to think about this......
  19. Yeah, I get it, heck fire, I think where I am at, I can probably come up with at least 3 different definitions of height above grade depending on the jurisdiction.
  20. I do not think you know what you are doing. First off, I do not think you can turn a WALL into a PSOLID, next, if you are drawing the PSOLID in plan, and then taking a back clip cross section of said PSOLID and the creating a PSOLID, that will not work either. My suggestion would be to create a wall and then put either DOORS or PASS THRUS into said wall.
  21. CA has this, it is called STICKY MODE, it is a repeat edit tool.
  22. Are you kidding me ? This is a super idea. What you are asking for is object elevation above the floor it is on as well as absolute elevation...... Similar to what we have in structure dbx, (ceiling ht. from the floor it is on and absolute ceiling height)" Why don't you put this in suggestions?
  23. Jim, come to Cali and I will teach you all sorts of funky things.
  24. You might be correct, must go now, will confirm in the AM
