1. BTW, this is the response I get back from CA. I was not able to successfully use this advice to get it to work. "The problem seems to occur anytime you change your roof soffit material to something that doesn't match our default. Just open the ceiling specification dialog and clicking OK will fix the issue." If I am not mistaken, I do not think anybody came up with a solution. I think Robert may of nailed it when he said it was plan specific. After reading Jim's comment, I think my mileage does vary.
2. Here is a pic of the z fighting that I was referring to.
3. Does it work for you move the polyline to the back group? There may be a reason you do not want to do this, but in your case it might work for you. It seems like you should have an option to have one in front of the other.... your choice. The move to front or back needs some work.
4. It's yypically stucco. This plane its siding, explain that. I bet if in render mode and rotate view, you see z fighting
5. Here is the plan, see if you can figure it out. Note the material of the sloped ceiling joist rafters and note the z fighting for the ceiling plane ceiling finish. Nope, I did not paint. KT CEILING PLANE PLAN 1.plan.zip
6. Thanks KT for the effort, but I do not think you achieved the challenge. What did you not do? 1. The roof plane rafters are not ceramic tile, they are fir framing (my ceiling plane framing members are stucco, why? I don't know) 2. The ceiling finish does come from the ceiling, and I get that, that is what I was getting, but I was also getting a stucco finish that was z fighting with my CEILING FINISH MATERIAL. If I don't hear back from headquarters, I may post the plan to see if you can figuratededed it out.
7. You are the man.... unbelievable.... nice job KT
8. It seems that you know what you are talking about. Here is the challenge, please post a small plan with the default ROOF PLANE FRAMING material using a BRICK material and the default CEILING FINISH of the ceiling plane to be CERAMIC TILE. I would like to see if I can open your plan and draw a sloped ceiling plane and get a BRICK MATERIAL for the sloped ceiling framing material, and a CERAMIC TILE finish for the sloped ceiling finish material. Thanks Jon
9. I just tested on my PC. Works fine. (I did get dvx) Retested on MAC, does not work. It is a MAC bug,
10. I must be missing something.... I don't get it..... this is how you change the default materials for a ceiling plane? Oh I see, miscommunication, you are talking about a default ceiling for a room.... I am talking about a SLOPED CEILING PLANE.
11. The problem with this is if you change material of the auto framed ceiling, auto framing must be turned off.... not what I want to do.
12. It seems to me that the ROUNDED VALUE INDICATORS should always be on. It should be an OOB setting. I will start using this. Thanks to whoever started this thread...... oh, that was me.
13. If you select a ceiling plane, the only material you can change is the ceiling finish and only after you unselect USE ROOM CEILING FINISH. I do not see a way of changing the ceiling plane framing materials.
14. I would try that, but my roof planes are good. It is when I build a ceiling plane in MY PLANS, not an OOB plan...... the rafters are made of STUCCO and the ceiling finish has two materials that are z fighting, the two materials are STUCCO and the DEFINED ROOM FINISH. I think I will send this into the muckity mucks at headquarters. Those guys know everything.
15. I just opened the plan that I posted with this thread. Only the plan open. I select camera, hit the delete key and nothing happens. I open project browser, select camera, right click, select delete, nothing happens. I think I have deleted saved cameras in the past.... I think..... maybe I was on a PC..... on a MAC right now, maybe it is a MAC thing.
16. I open OOB plan. Build quick house, take back clip cross section, open camera dbx and SAVE the camera. I changed my mind, I do not want the camera, I try to delete the camera. I cannot delete camera. I just realized this in the last few weeks. I guess I never tried to delete a SAVED CAMERA. Is this so? Once a camera is saved, it cannot be deleted. Open this plan and see if you can delete the camera. x6 X6 CANNOT DELETE CAMERA 1.plan.zip
17. Does anybody know how to change the material defaults for a ceiling frame. The OOB ceiling planes uses the room finish for the drywall and it uses fir framing for the framing of the ceiling frame. Can I change the default for these two materials?
18. Thanks Jim...... thanks for the help.... got it down now.
19. Hey, wait a minute, that tilde key is auto? I think I saw that somewhere.... if that is auto, that is perfect.
20. LOL, Yeah, I think I am ..... it's been so long since Algebra 101 I forget this stuff, thanks Jim, it is the tilde key.
21. My default dimension format is set to 1/16", occasionally I want to change the format. I would like to know when a dimension is not of the primary format. To note this I can put in some trailing text that will have the "APPROX" symbol, how do I get that symbol? thanks
22. Doing these things on line is the only way to go as far as I am concerned. I am sure Tommy's group will get more info shared than trying to meet in somebody's local office. Tommy is offering a true nugget for those that are interested.
23. This is frustrating and silly, but here is the sollution..... change the planking THICKNESS for each deck. Deck#1 has 1.5" planking, deck #2 has 1.40" planking and deck #3 has 1.6" thick planking. Keep the deck joists at the same level, but there will be essentially an imperceptible step from deck to deck of about 0.1". Frustrating, but it works.
24. .......... But ¼ max is generally considered safe for overhangs less than 2 ft. The reason being that with a notch, the end load is redirected into the side wall and the unnotched portion left in the rafter is in tension not shear Does this hold true for both 2x4 rafters as well as 2x12 rafters?
