  1. Rich, Brian is aware of the issue and it seems that you need to have "Framing, Wall " turned on in the layer that you generate the camera view from. Also may not work with 2 3D views open unless they are both displaying framing.
  2. Michael, Solid Black line style, line weight 25, 3D Framing Set. This raytrace problem may be related to the size of the structure as I am not sure that Michaels shed compares to what Rich and I are doing. I just raytrace a 100 sq. ft. shed's stud framing without issue and also not that it is directly related I was able to send smaller images to layout in the tech ill style as plot lines without issue. If Rich and I are getting the same results then it cant be the classic NVIDEA vs. AMD issue although it could be a 2 GB limitation but I don't see that as valid issue here because Rich does great ray tracing all the time. Could someone pull out a file that is a little larger and more complete framing system and give it a raytrace in standard view?
  3. Rich are you sending ray traces to layout because of this problem. Plot lines with no color fill shows up as only shadows for me.
  4. Never tried ray tracing wall framing before but I think you have made a discovery here Rich. Good work. Good thing I notched those psolid corner posts. They are holding up the whole building.
  5. Mike, make your railing a panel rail and select the wrought iron symbol from the library and assign it as the panel or apparently now in X9 you can just apply it right from the library in 3D.
  6. Did you get the reminder to activate your official product key before Wed of last week? If not the new version may not have overwritten it and if you did not have the official product key for the new download it may not be accessible for you to use. Strange though that you still have access to 19.0.3.50 which means that you must have the official product keys. There is the option to migrate library's in X9.
  7. Many thanks to Mark for a great presentation and Scott for hosting this meeting. I will post the recording when it has all uploaded. Sorry that I missed Scott's introduction as I was sorting out an audio issue that took me a few minutes, but there is still 3 hours of seriously deep cabinet discussion here that you will likely have to watch many times over to understand it all.
  8. There I fixed it. See if you notice the difference. Also cut down the poly count. Red Generic Pickup.calibz
  9. Do you have the basic Red Pickup from Chief Bonus Vehicles? Red Pickup.calibz Open up the materials and change white to "opening no material"
  10. You should be able to find something here: https://3dwarehouse.sketchup.com/search.html?q=road vehicles&backendClass=both
  11. Will, I would be quite interested in learning more about import file formats as I have been working with .stp, .stl, and .igs files this week with mixed results. Maybe you and I and Ivan could get together and discuss the options. I also think that there may be more options for you working within Chief that would allow you to be less reliant on import files if you are unable to find a good solution there. Do you also build log structures or primarily timber frame?
  12. Eric, Did you try to adjust your active camera and nothing happened? Also adjust your plan defaults and open a new camera and nothing changes?
  13. Take a careful look at the log a see if there is anything that does not make sense and be thankful that you are only about 6 hours in and thought to check it already. Often there are hours from a recycled file or template. Just delete them.
  14. Lynsey, You can take a look at this other post that was a similar situation that I helped out with and did a little polyline subtracting to cope the joint with the molding polyline. I am still not sure it is possible to get a true miter when working on a curve unless you turn the whole unit into a symbol or hire Yusuf. https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/topic/11548-wainscotingmolding/
  15. Eric, There are some new features in X9 and the one that you may be having trouble with is called "Ambient Occlusion" which is now available in Standard view. Try opening your active camera and reducing that or turning it off altogether if you want the same look as X8. You can also preset that in plan defaults for each camera that is opened.
  16. Good news Glenn, I will give that a try when I get back to the other project. I need to do a similar thing with a fixture symbol so maybe I will have better luck with it. Strange how each type of symbol has it's own rules, but no mention of it in the manual. I may need your help if you would be willing.
  17. That is one of CA's weaknesses, a symbol can be stretched and contorted in a bunch of different ways but not physically changed. What I do is create an Architectural Block or Cad Block of some of my more complicated items that I anticipate needing to edit and save them in the library as well.
  18. Kenneth, I believe that once you break the railing wall you must turn auto frame off and manually fix the framing and decking. I was messing around with a situation like this yesterday so if Michael has a better solution I would also love to hear about it. Check your digital locker for X9 it should be there if your SSA is in good standing or you will have to wait a little longer.
  19. If you are using an existing profile you can find it in the library and left click then select "Place Molding Profile". This works in plan view in X7 and also in elevation view but in elevation view you will get "flyers" that you will have to go looking for on the outskirts to be able to use. I believe I tried it Eric's way the first time and it works but is quite painful on a curved surface because you need to make a custom rotated profile for each placement and it is a big guessing game.
  20. Lindsay, I just tried a test plan and 3D Molding Polylines do not seem to play well with curved walls in the vertical direction. Unless someone comes up with a brilliant method you may have to go manual on this. Draw your profile in plan view and rotate to match curve of wall, convert polyline to polyline solid and extrude with thickness setting and set elevation or go back to elevation view and adjust, then paint as required.
  21. Lynsey, It is likely that the polyline is inverted. Try the "Extrude Inside Polyline" option
  22. Are you trying to do this with an "architectural block" or a "symbol"? This only works for symbols. I can't find 2 1/4" Regal Railing Linepost in my library so used another post symbol in the attached. Mark, Yes it is a Symbol that I made from a 4pc. architectural block of polyline solids. Took a look at your sample plan but it seems you are outlining the same procedure that Michael covered in his video. Sorry if I was not crystal clear in my request but I want a bounding box that is smaller than the 2D cad block and centered in the middle of it in both directions, without using a cad overlay. Thank you for taking the time to help and if you still feel this is possible with the current software, please let me know as I also have another project that I am working on that would benefit from this to an even greater degree. Send me a PM or include it with your Friday presentation if you have a solution. Thanks, Chopsaw
  23. Mark, I just can't seem to get it to work. I have only one grouping of items in my symbols architectural block ( 4 psolids ) so it seems that you gave me worst case scenario instructions and they were not all necessary in my situation. This should have made things simpler but after I messed around in X9 for about 1.5 hours I gave up trying to put a new cad block into cad block management and closed the file and started over and then that part worked as it should the first time. Not so sure I understand this part at all or if it apples to my situation "Explode, then move that, will be more parts under it, explode and move until there are no more blocks. Resize each, Block one, center the next on it, block...etc." Is this the 2D CAD Block or the Symbol that gets exploded? Any way the offset is the thing that I need to be able to change and it will not unless the previous steps that I am not understanding are the reason. Just so that you get a clearer picture of what I am trying to accomplish the item is a 2 1/4" Regal Railing Linepost. Illustration A is fake of what I want and B and C are what I have.
  24. Thanks for another great video Michael. I have another related question that I have that is similar to the Column Symbol that you demonstrated with in the video. When working with a Millwork Symbol to be used as a Newel Post in an auto railing is it possible to have a 2D block that represents the post and it's moldings yet have the Bounding Box represent the size of the post without it's moldings and be centered in the middle of the post? It almost seems like it could be done and should be possible yet I have not figured out a solution. Thanks, Chopsaw
