I deleted my post because I was incorrect. I didn't read your queries well enough.

The Material List setting is Layer Set specific, meaning that you can generate different material lists using different layer sets. The problem is that Chief doesn't currently seem to be respecting that setting for all object types.
-
You can Open Symbol directly from the user library and thereby only need to do it once. OR, you could do it in plan and then add that modified object to your library and thereby only need to do it once.
-
You are correct. It's not working correctly. Please file a report with tech support.

All you really have to do is Open Symbol and uncheck "Outlet".

No, I was just being humorous but also at least partially serious. Sometimes it’s only a handful of lines people really want to get rid of. BTW, you can also adjust material definitions to change the pattern’s line weight/line color or even remove the pattern entirely if it’s just one material that’s causing you problems...and there are several other methods too.
-
...or delete the lines 1 by 1 in layout.
-
Or toggle the “Patterns, 3D” layer and then refresh your view (F5 or Rebuild 3D)

There are a lot of people in different countries that don’t use it for that reason but in my opinion that shouldn’t discount it as a little useful tool for finding various projects calculations and information.
-
You can also explore exporting to ResCheck to get those figures.

If you haven’t sorted this out by the the end of the day I can model that for you this evening or tomorrow (for a fee). Just shoot me an email mail if you want to go that route.

Then no problem...as long as you name your walls in a consistent manner. We would really want to access that info through the window/door or header though. I’m away from my computer now so I can’t verify but I don’t think that information is available to windows, doors, or headers though or is it? Even so, that would be easy enough to handle using one of the OIP fields to basically create a custom checkbox of sorts. I’ve set up similar systems in the past for some other users albeit for different purposes. You can ask Scott how his window and door header labels are working for him. I included quite a few Custom OIP “text fields” and “checkboxes” for him as I recall.

That DWG file was just AutoCAD 2018. A version that wasn't supported in X9...and rightfully so because it didn't exist yet. NOTE: If you want to check the AutoCAD version of any given DWG file, simply right click and Open With>Notepad. Once the file opens up, check the first few characters... ...and then reference the chart below to find the AutoCAD version. Code Version AC1032 AutoCAD 2018 AC1027 AutoCAD 2013/2014/2015/2016/2017 AC1024 AutoCAD 2010/2011/2012 AC1021 AutoCAD 2007/2008/2009 AC1018 AutoCAD 2004/2005/2006 AC1015 AutoCAD 2000/2000i/2002 AC1014 AutoCAD Release 14 AC1012 AutoCAD Release 13

Yes. You can do it that way if you want to. Just make the bounding box slightly taller and wider than the door. You are in essence telling Chief that "I want the object's geometry to display at its full original size when I set the dimensions to this...."
-
That would all be relatively easy to do with the exception of knowing its in a masonry wall. I think that part would need some manual intervention.
-
I had no problem importing into X10. Must just be a new DWG version that X9 doesn't cover. See if this works for you... DWG for Tommy.dwg
-
Thanks for the clarification Dermot. I tested this out and you are correct. This IS the way it is working.
-
This isn't an X10 issue. It worked the same way in X9. It's just the color that was originally assigned to the door. As Chop pointed out, it's likely "Slate" which is the OOB default exterior door color.
-
The library works a bit differently with different object types, but with doors, it seems the behaviour is this...that door previews always display the material that was assigned when they were first added to the library. If the door is in your User Catalog and you right click>Open Symbol, the symbol preview will reflect your current plan's defaults, however the library preview will only reflect the original colors.
-
That would definitely be nice to have and its something that's been requested a few times. In the meantime, ya...it's a bit of a pain, but I just create multiple copies of the materials and offset patterns as necessary. I think that's the best we can do.
-
How are you doing this now? And are you talking about standard views or vector views? For elevation views, I personally use the material definition and just offset the pattern and texture as necessary.

We got the ability to define the top layer of a pony wall as a railing. The sloped part is the problem that still has yet to be addressed.
-
Interior bearing is far less common for us than non-bearing so...non-bearing is typically the default and then I modify the header as necessary for bearing walls.

Hey Gene, I don't think you're quite harnessing the new features to their fullest (or at least not quite as intended). You can place those objects as freestanding fixtures if you really want to, but try placing like this instead...
