  1. Perry do a little research , perhaps things have chaned? but my understanding was that defragging SSD's was a bad idea due to wear and tear ,at least if done weekly as was the norm for HD in the Past. IIt maybe that when you cloned your OS that the align wasn't done correctly for the SSD since you cloned a HD , that can cause a slow down ... M.
  2. yep very nice work Bill ,as much as I hate radius Drywall myself , that is also pretty cool.... M.
  3. another nice Video Perry , thanks. The tough part is going to be the triangular Header , and widened top part of the side casing I think since the Window is still rectangular in the OP's pic.... perhaps a head symbol is needed ,with the molding applied ?
  4. yep those Cood. are for Hamilton ,Canada......... not Hamilton, New Zealand you be upside down here's an NZ list http://www.skysat.co.nz/LatLong.asp
  5. Have a look thru Forum User RobUSMC content , he posted how he does this a while back. M.
  6. do you have all the ones in the Chief library ? other than making your own its the only source I know other than Chief Sample Plans which I have borrowed items out of by adding to my Library too.
  7. Samsung must have a new line coming out there was big price drops on some of there 4K units ,at least locally ,40-45% off this weekend. Still not at Seiki pricing though.... Samsung UN50HU7000 50IN 4K http://www.ncix.com/detail/samsung-un50hu7000-50in-4k-60hz-d5-94623.htm Samsung UN40HU7000 40IN....$699 http://www.ncix.com/detail/samsung-un40hu7000-40in-4k-60hz-32-94622.htm
  8. Thanks for looking into it Perry , my system is very similar to yours (i7-950 with 12gb) so I am following the thread with interest , since buying a GTX970 to replace an old gtx 470 really hasn't helped anything speed wise in Chief. ( couple of old games I still have on the comp , run much faster though) OS is on SSD here too but need to check where my undo folder is, as it maybe on the Raid 1.2TB Data Drives. M.
  9. you dont need a "workstation" for Chief Abe , just so you know , any good (gaming) computer will do it fine, its what most run, though you may have other software that needs a CAD workstation too??? if doing engineering or similar too ? with the budget of a Workstation , you would get one top notch gaming computer for sure though. https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/index.php?/topic/664-graphics-card-recommendations-gaming-or-workstation/#entry37848 M.
  10. True enough , the 730 he was looking at will do the job and the extra ram should help too, but should make a noticeable difference even to that computer , on the other hand after 5 yrs perhaps its time for a new computer ? you know you deserve it Abe
  11. TS link is here Todd https://support.chiefarchitect.com/home click on the new case button in green
  12. Abe needs a low profile card Perry , and not sure his PS can handle the 780GTX either , but sounds like the update fixes it up for him. M.
  13. Attics cant have rooms in them....it's part of the software programming so you need a 3rd floor and hence see post #2 looks like you are adding a standard height (96"?) 3rd floor by the looks, try it with 0" wall height , then you should be able to add rooms, and with auto roof off be able to raise the ceiling back to 96" afterwards. M. or post the plan so Scott or another Guru can help you....
  14. That's why it is advised to add your Version etc to your Member Profile in the Signature area , as you can see on most of our posts, that way you get the correct answer 1st time around. go upto the RH top corner click on your user name and then my settings to add a sig. M.
  15. Did you make the 3rd floor 0" ? or 96" M.
  16. No Workshop I am aware of yet......... 1. Set the materials for the walls via the wall definition tab as needed , the material+spacing are in the Library and make sure "Use Wall Framing Material" is checked. 2. you can specify the Header materials in the Framing Defaults or Build Framing DBX>Headers/Openings , set all to 2x10 as needed. Not sure it can do 2 or 3 pieces based on width though? M.
  17. Abe those look like Lenovo graphics cards , you shouldn't be limited to what they are offering only, any good computer shop should be able to guide you to a good gaming card , but the 510 looks to be the best of those 4 , though I'm surprised you can't find something faster , an old GTX8800 I have runs about the same but the 510 is less power hungry which is good with your power supply. http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/compare.php?cmp[]=2195&cmp[]=2228&cmp[]=119 looks like you will need displayport cables with that card and perhaps an adaptor if you monitor doesn't have displayport or mini displayport too http://support.lenovo.com/ca/en/products/desktops-and-all-in-ones/thinkcentre-m-series-desktops/thinkcentre-m81/documents/PD026521?tabName=Accessories
  18. I agree that you can't follow "The Order" in all cases, and things may have changed in Chief since the list was posted originally ( 2-3 versions ago?) so may need to be taken with a gain of salt now , I just thought it may help someone since I haven't noticed your issues , then again I'm not usually adding Watertables (bellybands) or friezes etc either, which I noticed were also all low in the plan. I know the Order above used to help with the old problem of adding windows and doors too early to a garage for example and they would sit on top of the stemwall instead of dropping down to the Slab when the foundation was built.
  19. Hi Todd , this may have changed a bit and others will chime in no doubt with pointers ,but this is something I copied off the Forum or KB years ago, don't remember the Author, it may help a bit, at least in general terms. 1. Open a New Plan for Project 1.a Set ALL defaults as desired before Drawing the 1st wall. ***Before Drawing the 1st wall save the now new blank "My House" Plan you just created so you can reuse it in the future as a Template see http://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-00463/ on making Templates. 2. Finish setting defaults for this specific structure if needed eg. ....A. Ceiling height per Floor ....B. Foundation specifics ....C. Framing specifications ....D. Roof materials etc etc (see article above) 3. Build 1st floor perimeter & bearing walls to final design 4. Build 2nd floor perimeter & bearing walls to final design 5. Build all subsequent floors to final 6. Label 1st floor rooms properly (i.e. garage, porch, bathroom, etc.) 7. Set platform thickness on structure tab of room specification dialogue for each floor, starting with floor one & moving Up 8. Set 1st floor ceiling height (Floor Defaults) 9. Set subsequent floor ceiling heights working from 1st floor up 10. Build foundation 11. Build interior walls in any color 12. Detail the plan (i.e. add doors & windows, cabinets, etc ) 13. Build roofs 14. Build framing (walls, sub-floor, ceiling, roof/truss, etc) 15. Terrain & Landscaping 16. Create CAD details, elevations, plot plans & layout
  20. the 2011 driver from Dell maybe the Latest from them , so you may need to download a Driver direct from Nvidia or AMD or Intel depending on what you have..... M.
  21. Char. , Robert's post is just a standard plan you can open as normal , then you can copy and paste between plans or save the items in the plan to your User Library and then use them when needed. if you haven't seen it yet ,you have inspired Joe to start making a Niche Library too ...thanks https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/index.php?/topic/4358-wall-niche-symbol-library/
  22. Ask a Local Contractor/Builder ,your realtor will undoubtly know one, but take the pricing with a grain of Salt... get independent pricing too ,,,,,,I would allow for a complete redo.... M.
  23. I haven't added moldings to the exterior of windows so perhaps didn't/haven't noticed this problem , so I agree with Perry and Scott, it would be interesting to see the Plan or at least a test plan with the problem reproduced. M.
