I agree that you can't follow "The Order" in all cases, and things may have changed in Chief since the list was posted originally ( 2-3 versions ago?) so may need to be taken with a gain of salt now , I just thought it may help someone since I haven't noticed your issues , then again I'm not usually adding Watertables (bellybands) or friezes etc either, which I noticed were also all low in the plan. I know the Order above used to help with the old problem of adding windows and doors too early to a garage for example and they would sit on top of the stemwall instead of dropping down to the Slab when the foundation was built.

Hi Todd , this may have changed a bit and others will chime in no doubt with pointers ,but this is something I copied off the Forum or KB years ago, don't remember the Author, it may help a bit, at least in general terms. 1. Open a New Plan for Project 1.a Set ALL defaults as desired before Drawing the 1st wall. ***Before Drawing the 1st wall save the now new blank "My House" Plan you just created so you can reuse it in the future as a Template see http://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-00463/ on making Templates. 2. Finish setting defaults for this specific structure if needed eg. ....A. Ceiling height per Floor ....B. Foundation specifics ....C. Framing specifications ....D. Roof materials etc etc (see article above) 3. Build 1st floor perimeter & bearing walls to final design 4. Build 2nd floor perimeter & bearing walls to final design 5. Build all subsequent floors to final 6. Label 1st floor rooms properly (i.e. garage, porch, bathroom, etc.) 7. Set platform thickness on structure tab of room specification dialogue for each floor, starting with floor one & moving Up 8. Set 1st floor ceiling height (Floor Defaults) 9. Set subsequent floor ceiling heights working from 1st floor up 10. Build foundation 11. Build interior walls in any color 12. Detail the plan (i.e. add doors & windows, cabinets, etc ) 13. Build roofs 14. Build framing (walls, sub-floor, ceiling, roof/truss, etc) 15. Terrain & Landscaping 16. Create CAD details, elevations, plot plans & layout

the 2011 driver from Dell maybe the Latest from them , so you may need to download a Driver direct from Nvidia or AMD or Intel depending on what you have..... M.

Char. , Robert's post is just a standard plan you can open as normal , then you can copy and paste between plans or save the items in the plan to your User Library and then use them when needed. if you haven't seen it yet ,you have inspired Joe to start making a Niche Library too ...thanks https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/index.php?/topic/4358-wall-niche-symbol-library/

Ask a Local Contractor/Builder ,your realtor will undoubtly know one, but take the pricing with a grain of Salt... get independent pricing too ,,,,,,I would allow for a complete redo.... M.

I haven't added moldings to the exterior of windows so perhaps didn't/haven't noticed this problem , so I agree with Perry and Scott, it would be interesting to see the Plan or at least a test plan with the problem reproduced. M.

Pony Wall (Foundation + Brick) Won't Align With Brick 1St Floor
Kbird1 replied to Alexonian's topic in General Q & A
P. did you post the correct plan back here ? none of the walls are aligned according to the edit bar and if I look in camera view the bricks are also misaligned by about 3/4" . was I wrong about the "HomeMade Brick Pony Wall's" main layer being assigned wrong? -
Just make the "deck" planks 3" thick concrete material with no gap (0") and make the planks 1/2 the width of the deck or wider so you don't see joints , it works but maybe someone can point out the downfalls if any of my method?
-
Jon are you talking about the edit toolbar ? it is possible if the toolbars are unlocked to move it , even to another screen , so it maybe "lost" if floating somewhere , so use the Reset option for "Side Windows" in the Preferences , and restart Chief and see what happens. , (this will set them all to default though.)

Pony Wall (Foundation + Brick) Won't Align With Brick 1St Floor
Kbird1 replied to Alexonian's topic in General Q & A
@Rashid ....the layers for YOUR "brick pony wall" wall you made, are setup with a 5" offset in the main layers for the wall below , try them like this.......... My guess is you'll need to redo foundation or rejoin walls etc with that large of a correction needed. you also have an error showing up with a "wall sloping downward" -

Alex , close the plan before trying to upload a copy to the forum ,Chief locks the file while you work on it..... you don't need to close Chief , just the plan. -
the remove from selected edge button , at least I thought it was new in X7 ? maybe it only shows for interior applications?

select it and use the new tool on the Edit Toolbar in X7 ,last one on RH side on mine , I was just using it on a room molding polyline so assume it works in your situation too. M.

You don't need ,nor does Chief even Recommend Quadro cards Abe, any good gaming card your motherboard can handle will work , you can get cheap Nvidia cards for under a $100 , sometimes well under, so it depends on your budget and what the MB PCIE slot can handle voltage wise but a cheap card like the 630 or 730 is enough ,if budget and motherboard allow a 660 is still a decent card. the better the NV Card the more likely it will need extra power plugs from the power supply too , which maybe a factor , ie you PS may not have them.? Amd Video Card Help Lines Disappear At Various Zoom Levels
Kbird1 replied to VisualDandD's topic in General Q & A
that is a nice case been using Coolmaster HAF 922's for a few years now for their great ventilation. your GTX was $100 less than mine , ouch ! thanks for the info M. -
its an easy swap back if I notice problems ( delete buttons folder ,rename original folder to buttons) , I just wanted to see if the X6 icons were actually more to my preference or if it was just a perception thing ,but I still think its easier to find stuff with the old icons , and since I only work at 1920x1080 , I am not sure the new "flat" icons help me at all? any "new" icons in X7 are using there original icon files BTW. on the other hand you CANT miss rich's 6 new ones M.

I agree Chief doesn't really Push the GTX970 but I think I'm "good" for a few years too but need to do a Build myself , and the one component you don't list (naturally) is the Motherboard, so I'm curious since I will overclock an i7 too I wish GTX970 were that cheap here ,very surprising ,which one did you get? BTW I'm using that Dual Monitor -multi-taskbar program (3 monitors and TV) and the extra toolsbars are nice to have , even the Beta Start button is working for me , though I think you wanted a program with way more functionality didn't you? http://sourceforge.net/projects/dualmonitortb/ -

hmmm he was working on it with me too and then suddenly stopped answering his email....am guessing he got what he wanted though... M. -
Thanks Perry another good video , did you send that little Plan into TS to report that Bug? In that situation with a framed floor and a concrete deck it actually destroys the structure , no sill plate any longer and the stemwall "grows" ( rather than shrinks) for some reason. even if you drop the Porch floor to -15" ( 2 x 7 1/2" steps) elevation from -6 , where the Porch slab should just butt into the stem wall it screws it up. or have I set something up wrong ? you used "straight deck edge" to make the Porch Room correct ?

if you aren't getting a new computer Truco, you may want to ask about getting another 4GB of Ram too . M.

Watch the icons on the bottom of the RH side toolbar too then, as they are mostly toggles too and easily clicked by accident. eg your grid, temp. dims, snaps etc

I guess so new to me as well..... pictures pretty please

I saw Perry mention that he uses CCleaner to do a registry cleanup each week on another Forum thread , and I use it weekly for general cleanup , though don't do the Registry , being in the " don't fix what aint broke camp" about the registry but decided to give it a try (with a reg. backup) and X7 has not Crashed again yet though X7 usage has been less and I've used the library little since.
