  1. They already have an XP license on the dead Desktop they can reuse, I have done it many times.... the disks as you mention maybe an issue but not a too difficult one. M.
  2. you can also Dual Boot XP and Win 8.1 on the same new laptop, boot to win 8.1 by default and into XP when you want to use Chief. Since you have licenses for both XP and Win 8.1 it is not an issue lots of help here https://www.google.ca/#q=dual+boot+windows+8+and+xp though you may want some Tech help if not computer savvy.
  3. shouldn't an unfiltered search bring up ALL instances of FILE ? yes the library search / tagging system needs a bunch of work.....
  4. Manually I think as Joe said .......these KB Articles may give you some pointers...... http://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-01027/ http://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-00532/
  5. he means the Full set of Permit Plans . Annosets .....,sounds like something I need to look into too , though I don't think it will be 5 mins but any help and tips always appreciated. M.
  6. After seeing your Spiral Staircases I should have known this was pretty simple for you .......once again nice thinking outside the Box. I will need to try this , should be a good Chief Lesson Mick
  7. Nice Yusuf to the rescue .......... I would not have thought to try a skylight in a Wall...... how did you make the Curved part ?
  8. It is printing what you have asked it too , your "view" includes the whole window not just the terrain Perimeter. zoom in as tight as possible to what you want to print, obviously it wont be to scale .... M.
  9. Garry at a minimum post some pics of the issue , but the best thing is to attach your .plan file to a post so one of the Guru's here can take a quick peek and set you straight or post the corrected plan back. M.
  10. from your other post Rodney......... Hi Rodney , sounds like you are a Home Designer User not a Chief User , there is a dedicated Home Designer Forum over here: https://hometalk.chiefarchitect.com/ But yes Transform/replicate is a Pro or Chief Tool , you can still use CAD lines and Dimension to them though. see you over at HomeTalk. (use the same ID and Password) PS you will notice that all the other Posters to this thread have filled in their Profile signature with their Version/Year , and computer specs , this helps answer a lot of questions especially on Hometalk as there as at least 5 versions of HD.. Mick.

  12. I messed around a bit too , no luck, did you try 3d Warehouse? or do it yourself in Sketchup perhaps M.
  13. Looks like he figured it out ...... so much for a thank you.....
  14. yep easiest/fastest way is to change the default exterior wall definition to a Pony wall spec'd the way you want it as Dennis said, the gable height walls you may need to change back to full height , but perhaps not if there Definition is already not a Default wall. M.
  15. I think there must be a setting on my computer that is effecting it or I am doing something in the Wrong Order ? your post reminded me that I got Icons here last year I liked too ( don't remember who made them, sorry) but I tried it with the attached files too which gave me the same results regardless of Chief restart, computer restart etc , they all change the Desktop Icon and the Pinned Icon on the Startbar but not the Running Program Icon which reverts to the standard CA one. But maybe your icon/any icon can't change that? and I misunderstood what you were doing? M. Chief Icons were made by someone else on the Forums , so Credit goes to them, but sorry I don't know who. 16. sounds like a Room definition/wall connection issue on both side and the EXTERIOR room is linking the two into one room....
  17. Joe C. used a similar technique to do his 3D B&B siding , that thread may have some pointers for you? https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/index.php?/topic/1243-board-batt-siding-using-3e-moldings/?hl=%2Bboard+%2Band+%2Bbatten#entry9737
  18. guess you didn't read the whole thread ? if your SSA isn't active on March 5th you don't get the beta ...however Lew talked to Sales and they set him up on Monday. You can however download the Trail version of Chief instead someone pointed out yesterday. mine didn't show till I re-downloaded the X6 file 1st to save as a backup as pointed out by Perry , then the x7 beta link showed in my locker too.
  19. If I pin it to the taskbar I get the new Icon but when X7 is running I get the Standard one ,even though the Properties show Alan's Icon......I guess I misunderstood what Alan was doing....
  20. Use 4 exterior walls and put your remodel in the appropriate corner or right in the middle if your remodel has no exterior walls such as in this KB article too though not all that helpful http://www.homedesignersoftware.com/support/article/KB-00917/
  21. yes I did a few months ago , here are the files in the Symbols forum, this is the best we came up with , not true 3D but looks ok. https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/index.php?/topic/137-board-and-batten-siding-texture/page-2#entry2077 I'll check cos I may have updated that file since I did it - you can also use the B&B in the Certainteed library which isn't 3D either - Here is Joe Carrick's method for 3D B&B too https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/index.php?/topic/1243-board-batt-siding-using-3e-moldings/?hl=%2Bboard+%2Band+%2Bbatten#entry9737 Mick.
  22. Funnily enough the only place I have seen the March 5th date (after following the *) on it was on Yesterday's. (?) Chief News Email , wonder if this thread prompted that ? Anyways Glad things worked out Lew.... M.
  23. Thanks , I changed the Desktop Icon ( shortcut) no problem , but Chief.exe still uses the old one on the Taskbar , so I guess I applied it to the wrong thing? the .exe doesn't appear to have an change icon button.....
  24. I think David (DJP) is in Austin https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/index.php?/topic/3636-sources-for-freelancers/#entry31202
