I had a play in Scott's Challenge Thread , with these so there is more info there about the issue, plus there are a couple of Outlets I have "Fixed" that seem to work ok now , placed the dshall way , and they don't sit on the Floor either. disclaimer I am CAD Block Challenged so you may want to change it. https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/index.php?/topic/5408-the-cabinet-electrical-outlet-challenge/#entry47224

I found the same things as you Mark while messing with / altering the CA ones but after some more messing around I have these two ( Below) you can try. In plan view you can place them with the "Legs" of the CAD Block touching the cabinet line and they should look right in 3D. Chief automatically alters the smoothing on symbols when resaving them for some reason? so these are about 45° while the CA Duplex outlet is about 79° , you can alter that on the symbols 3D Tab but I don't mind them like this , little more definition. DJP 's finding makes sense of what I found with the CA symbols Scott , So maybe you do owe him lunch ..... you had placed them using the CAD Block , with the "legs" just touching the cabinet side, not with the selection handle aligned/centred with the cabinet side, so opening the symbol and setting it back the thickness off the wall as I (unknowingly) did , ie about 4 " made them look right in 3D too, but switch them to Wall Mounted per DJP and then make sure the selection handle is centred on the cabinet side. seems to correct it, setting them to Wall mount means they reference a wall however , though I don't' know if that is an issue ? the symbols also need their X.Y or Z axis's modified too, to get them to placed at the height to centred set in the Object's DBX accurately, see my plan below for those notes if wanted. here is the plan , I made some notes on the saved elevation BBB SCOTTS CABINET ELEC OUTLET CHALLENGE 1_Mick.plan *** I see Mark has discovered a Wall Referenced issue above

Both Symbols Y Offset needs to be adjusted 4 5/16 for the horizontal and 4 1/8 for the Vertical , both are set at - 1/8" ? , I'm not sure why they sit on the floor either . when the Modeller could easily have fixed that I believe..

Is There A Way To Trim/extend P/solids In Elevation View?

So only shear walls ? , here they are usually 3/4 ply , but ALL exterior walls here get 1/2 ply (or OSB if going cheap) M. -

Hi Larry, I was just messing around with Glenn's tip on rebuilding/retaining the framing and it doesn't work with my materials it seems I also found that if you have Retain Wall Framing Checked in the Wall DBX you don't get the Icon on the Edit toolbar , but you can still rebuild via the Build >Framing Menu . Not sure if the missing Build framing icon is cos of the retain framing setting in your case. I also noticed in your Video in the tips forum , you have no sheathing layer on your walls ,though I'm not sure if that is effecting anything. -

Thanks Glenn , wasn't aware of that Tip , That thread is my old one on B&B , but this works nicer than my old files there ,with the true 3D bit more work around Doors and Windows though. Not sure if it is a difference in your method Larry (separate wall) vs using my Batten Material posted above , but you do get the Framing option on the edit Toolbar with my Material as it part of the Wall. *** just had a thought since your method uses a separate wall you are clicking on the separate wall right ? not the main wall -
Is There A Way To Trim/extend P/solids In Elevation View?
Kbird1 replied to HumbleChief's topic in General Q & A
just watched your last video , looks like you had basically the same idea from Glenn's post and you are right you have do do work around the windows and Doors , as CA automatically adds doubles at all openings and the headers but depending on the view you could build framing with headers set at 0" depth ,so you only need to delete the odd double at each opening. For Cross sections you would need to build framing again with headers set back to default depth. I also found I had to set my Casing just a tad thicker to get it to work right , eg 1 5/8 thick as my board and batt = 1 1/2" then there was no "z-fighting" edit: here is the Plan too Larry Cedar Batten Plan1.plan -

Kbird1 replied to HumbleChief's topic in General Q & A
Hi Larry , sorry I didn't look at the Videos , as Glenn's idea reminded me that a while back I made some new materials to use as Rainscreen Battens as they are Code here , and it occurred to me the same idea would work for these Battens, and perfectly for the Cedar B&B I have needed in the Past on several jobs , the only caveat is that you must have Wall, Framing on in all views and obviously build the wall framing, changing the number of top and bottom plates as needed, to make the Battens look right (pics) which may mess up cross sections but a few cross boxes will fix that issue for the wall framing top and bottom plates. Here is the Library I made , it has 6" ,8" and 10" OC Battens , once imported , add the appropriate one as the 1st (outer) layer of the wall , and build your framing and turn on the framing in each 3d view, they don't even look bad with shadows on. Use the "Balloon through Ceiling Option" in the wall DBX on Gable walls to eliminate the Horizontal batten. Cedar Battens.calibz ***Edit looks like we posted at the same time , and perhaps you got to the same place I did ****2017 Also see https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/topic/16852-board-and-batten-library/ M. -

Kbird1, on 29 May 2015 - 12:34 PM, said: Wouldn't you run into this all the time on the 2nd floor? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ The burning Hay Bales ? just joking ...no I wouldn't ever see this as everything has to be drywalled (1/2hr or 1hr rated) anyway being fully finished , new homes here have to be sprinkled too along with Renos if deemed large enough % wise that the home is essentially new. Unfinished basements I know are common in a lot of places though due to Cost, and that space is used for storage , so I can only guess there was an "incident" and somebody got sued or a whole lot worse, hence the new Regs. -
Since you are new , just want to make sure you are aware of the Knowledge Base (KB) , lots of good tutorials here http://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/database.html I would advise getting the Reference Manual PDF linked on the Help Menu too , I usually find it easier to use than the online help but in this case it is handy , select the custom ceiling plane and Open it's DBX (dialog box) , and in the bottom right hand corner click on the help button and it will open to the ceiling plane Specification Help Items. It sounds to me though , that you drew it in the wrong direction , the tick mark on the 1st line seen is pointing up. M

There is a Home Designer Website over here too https://hometalk.chiefarchitect.com/index.php?/forum/5-qa/ which if you need more help maybe better as there will be people with the same title as you . As Perry mentioned close the plan before trying to attach it to your Post. ( don't need to close HDI , just the plan.) And don't forget to file in your Profile Signature so people know what you are Using...Program and Year M.

Yes it would be nice to have real 3D Board and Batten Materials but until then Joe came up with a way last year using molding plines too https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/index.php?/topic/1243-board-batt-siding-using-3e-moldings/?hl=%2Bboard+%2Band+%2Bbatten#entry9737 -

One would hope nobody is taking 10 hay bales into their basement and setting fire to them , and even if they did the smoke alarms would be going crazy, around here there aren't any unfinished basements , people always need the space , so this is one I am unlikely to ever run into ,seems like another case of allowing for that 1 in a Million chance. -
It sounds like you might have the select room option in Preferences>Architectural>Select Room before Wall ... ON ...uncheck the box. if that doesn't work and you still get the room 1st try hitting the Tab key or the next button on the edit toolbar instead to skip to the next object which should be the wall. CA's KB Article on changing one wall http://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-00005/8/Chief-Architect/Materials/Changing-the-Color-or-Material-of-a-Single-Wall.html

you missed the Fact you need to turn the Auto Rails OFF (staircase dbx) and draw your own with the Straight Railing Tool.
-
Tonight= this evening but was last night and he posted last night here and over on Hometalk ,where he posted the plan , https://hometalk.chiefarchitect.com/index.php?/topic/1102-any-pros-on-tonight-that-might-help-with-a-project/
-
I should of been more specific , if you use the Auto Rail on your stairs you will need to do as Mike suggests , however if you turn the Auto rails off and draw your own , and set them to "follow stairs" you can use the Newel Spacing measurement to get your mid - span Newels. CA automagically divides the spaces evenly, end to end , it doesn't actually place newels at the distance input into the DBX. ,just play with the number and watch the preview window till you get what you need. standard auto rail in pic 1 auto rail on left in pic 2, manual rail on the right
-
I use 7zip but windows 7/8 has built in "Extract" function for zipfiles on the Right Click menu
-
set the newel spacing smaller to force an extra one and it will auto center in the railing

@Curt sounds like you need to go into settings on the bottom of the youtube window ( gear icon) and turn off autoplay and set you default play resolution. -
try moving the sheathing into the Main layers area in the wall's definition ,as the pony wall is likely aligned to Main layer-Outside

Thanks Joe got the new zip file. ( to others it's in post #43 if you missed it)

- Thanks Joe , the [] looked like one letter , I thought perhaps it was a keyboard ALT character like ° . - looks like you forgot to hit Attach with the new Macros. M.

Thx Joe once again appreciate your time and expertise on all things Macro. I was wondering at the end of my playing if it was a global total but didn't think to close Chief to clear the memory out , it seemed like the more things I tried the higher the total went but didn't come back down even when I deleted vents but I'll play a bit tomorrow with it again. In these instructions below , in No# 2 , what is the letter/symbol after = as I don't think it is a zero? There are 2 ways to deal with this: 1. Close Chief so that the contents of the variable are cleared 2. Close the 1st Plan, Open the 2nd Plan then open the Ruby Console and type $Vents = [] which clears the list. Think I saw a thread with a Ruby Handbook mentioned, guess I better take a look for it...
