  1. Looks like you did great , he should be very happy , hope you get your cut of the commission
  2. Hi Curt , quiet around here today , wonder why Yeah I posted in that thread 1st then thought I had better not hijack that thread and start my own , as Dermot's answer doesn't really help me , as I thought I had already started with this Project's Plan with a Metric Template .The Help System was no help , the link to the CA help site from the Error Message , had nothing in it. M.
  3. The New Hillside contemporary Plan in the Samples Gallery maybe helpful to you Johnny , it also comes with a Raytracing Tips Sheet and some new Materials in the Zip. http://www.chiefarchitect.com/products/samples.html File Link https://ds3vvyqfhyred.cloudfront.net/1/downloads/plans/hillside-contemporary.zip
  4. A Point to Point Dimension Works either Floor to ceiling and dragged out or better...... use a Call Out and Dimension to that Level Line. Have a look at Joey Martin's Award winning Plan Set for Ideas on how to do stuff https://ds3vvyqfhyred.cloudfront.net/1/pdf/plan-sets/aibd-working-drawing-joey-martin.pdf Some of the Sample Plans Like the Dalton also come with a Layout Final , so another good way to checkout how things are done in CA http://www.chiefarchitect.com/products/samples.html
  5. Hi , thought this might be better in it's own topic..... Is there a way to determine what "system" a plan or Layout originally started as ? although I am in a Metric plan ( I think ) when I send to Layout the Scale is is always in Imperial , and when I tried to save the Layout to use as my future Metric Layout Template , it tells me the System is Imperial ( and won't save it), so I am not sure what I have done or if it is fixable? thx.
  6. Are you sending at the right Scale ? You can Toggle Patterns on and off on the RH side Toolbar or on the 3D menu , I also find toggling Off colour can help too , same Toolbar ..at least for me. M.
  7. I usually use D&D to test an object from 3DWH , as it doesn't add it to the library etc , then I just delete it if textures , size etc are messed up ,especially these day when a lot of objects don't have real textures , instead they have a pic laid on the surface of the block CA doesn't handle these well. I usually then do the full import , if I plan to keep and reuse it , but didn't realise if you D&D'd it was auto a Fixture
  8. the exterior window sill is missing David on B, I did not look inside , but found the same thing as Dennis , unfortunately it seems you can't block/mull all 5 windows.. M.

  10. Not all symbols are well made but as a general rule yes in .skp or .dae file types , using the import menu or drag and drop in the CA Window.
  11. It sounds like you are Opening a New Plan each time you open CA ? then yes you have lost your new Default Inch Dims, as Defaults are Plan specific and as mentioned above if you use the New Plan Button , it will open the Default Plan in CA called Profile.Plan and revert you to CA's OOB (Out Of the Box) Settings. So you can either Save the plan you are working in after changing the Dim Setting to inches and open it, not a New Plan next time in CA , or Open Profile.Plan and Change it there , so each time you hit the New Plan button it will be Inches by default already. All of Us who have used CA a While have a "Template Plan" with all our favourite settings in it already and we set it up to open from the New Button instead of the Default Profile Plan CA provides ,which you can do too, like this..... Open a new plan , change the Dim Setting to Inches ( and any other default you want and then do a Save as Template , and it will ask if you want the new plan as your default Template for imperials plans from now on (yes) , so that when you use the New button from now on it will always be setup how you want.
  12. Yep welcome Aboard ... A New User posted last week too, so this might help you too https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/index.php?/topic/6286-new-user-what-should-i-focus-on-first/ Great group here , but get the Reference Manual on the Help Menu and User Guide Tutorial (and Read it ) , make use of the Knowledgebase (KB) Tutorials , http://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/database.html and the Getting started Page here http://www.chiefarchitect.com/getting-started/ and feel free to ask questions here anytime... Mick.
  13. Sorry Scott , I minimised the Browser this morning and was busy Drawing up an As-Built from a measure I did Thurs. , so I had something ready for a Client Meeting today , so didn't see this till now... In this particular case I had the thought , that the Balcony setting maybe causing the issue , those I have seen the Issue Like Larry showed on numerous occasions but can't duplicate right now and HC didn't post his plan in the OP to try. M.
  14. Hmmm the Other Front Door on the LH Side.... the one with the retaining wall, is where it happened to me... but I've never been able to figure out a particular step or set of things to make it happen. The retaining wall is slightly imbedded into the "Porch" and the front (only) stairs are too , so I slide the RT Wall out 2-3 inches and pulled it back and just looked at your Front stair and So maybe it is a View issue ? I am in Full Overview Perspective Nope same in Full Camera The other quirks maybe a X2 to X7 issue? if I change the Balcony to a Porch It still frames , rather than give me a 4" slab (same for a Court) so change it to a Deck and let it frame, then back to a Porch and I get 4" slab and framing ...just can't win.. Mac vs PC maybe?
  15. The Nominal or "call" sizes ( vs actual) are equivalent to 25mm = 1" 2x4 is 50 x 100 , 2x6 is 50 x 150 , 2x8 is 50 x 200 , 2x10 is 50 x 250 , 2x12 is 50 x 300 ie: Where the standard specifies members by call size those sizes shall be read as the actual minimum dried sizes given below: Call sizes (mm) 25 40 50 75 100 150 200 250 300 Actual minimum dried size (mm) 19 35 45 70 90 140 190 240 290 (Call size is also referred to as "nominal" size).
  16. most recently in Dickerchen's Plan ,that you also looked at here : https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/index.php?/topic/6337-why-doesnt-framing-display-in-plan-view/#entry56451 The front porch is labeled a balcony and I changed it to porch and deck etc. after pulling the retaining wall back to see what was wrong with it and the wall behind it. That Plan was done in X2 originally but I see it frequently as I help over on HT and see all sorts of weird happenings
  17. Thanks Allan , same as Imperial just in mm . this is the simple Chart I use for conversions Metric-Imperial Timber Conversion.pdf
  18. I thought PDF's didn't pixelate if zoomed ? however if they were "printed" at 72dpi (the Webpage standard) rather than 600DPI , I could see them not looking good if zoomed in on...
  19. The HD Website sends Users seeking (paid) help over here actually Dave..... PM me if you need help Bernie. M.
  20. I see this happen sometimes when I change a Deck to a Porch or Slab Room (a Def. with a Conc. Floor slab) and usually just change the exterior wall finish to Concrete to match.... and put it down to another CA "quirk"
  21. it's called the Delete Key isn't it?
  22. Am surprised by that , I too have an old Copy , which I am sure I paid way more than $50 for way back when , though like Dennis I never had the time to really learn it. So you'd say $50 well spent P. even if you have Chief ? I usually use Draftsight Free to look at ACAD stuff if needed. http://www.imsidesign.com/Products/DesignCAD/DesignCAD
  23. Ok , I guess you changed the garage Stemwall height at some point ? I did a simple test like Larry, and the two stemwalls were always equal in Height, which is why I asked if I understood the OP correctly....
  24. Here are a couple of Doc's I made form Info found on the Forums , including Curt's and a Good Pitch to Degree Converter Sheet I forgot I had incase other can use them . M.
