  1. I agree it is too strong , I usually turn Shadows etc off as it look more Un-natural with them on .... I am using my old Computer with a GTX 470 at the moment so that maybe part of the issue and why it is showing so strongly , though I think it is using current Nvidia Drivers.
  2. You are Correct Michael . I only checked 3 or 4 of the *_MigrateBackup Folders which where empty , my textures and Toolbars_Migrate folders have Items too, My Log does not show any errors though. Actually I thought Toolbars didn't migrate to be honest and you had to set them up again.... but I should of migrated X7-X8 properly then installed X9 since it only migrates the most recent version.
  3. It sounds like the Old Stray Object Issue , a Full Overview camera will place you sometimes Miles from the House it seems , but you can sometimes find it by turning on the Display of all Objects/layers in plan view and looking out around the edges after a Fill Window Zoom.
  4. I noticed the extra Folders, they are empty (here) but I left them alone for now "just incase"....
  5. Thanks Jonathan , the Ambient Occlusion Tip does seem to be the issue and I would not have found that answer myself, I'm guessing it is worse as the room is only 5ft wide ? judging from Kevin's comment about Shadows in X9. ( I have Shadows off in Defaults?) Though at 70% i still see it so I have had to put it on 0% as at 25% I could still see it but now I'm looking for it too. The Default Camera General Tab is now where the Reflections Global Check box is too , so no need to edit per Camera as I thought... You are Correct I haven't see the New videos yet , I did watch them earlier as I didn't want to tease myself with the "goodies" in X9 as I was not going to renew right up the last minute. @Dermot .... Ok , I will have a look at another copy of the Plan and try and figure out what I did to loose the Drywall as I can't show Clients this and I can't get a material region to cover it either for some reason (no wall layer?) - also Every time I start X9 it ask if I want it to be associated with Plan and layout files etc , if you choose "do not ask again" you cannot choose Yes....it grays out - there are (was?) also some missing textures in the Core Content Library after I installed it too. - the Materials Tab of an Item which now has a Component and Materials Column is too small you have to scroll sideways to find and change the material, it does not change even if you enlarge the DBX.
  6. Well I bit the Bullet and got SSA and now I am wondering why ..... I pulled a Bathroom Reno plan out of X7 today to Update it as the Client is reconsidering the Project and there seems to be a number of issues even on this simple plan , that don't show in X7. The plan is messy I admit, since it is a bathroom on the 2nd floor and I didn't want to draw more of the house than I needed to, so perhaps it's mostly "Pilot Error" but so far..... - all the material regions (shower tile) were invisible in 3D, I could see them in 2D and select them but couldn't see them in a camera view, so I deleted and redid them - Drywall is gone off one Corner (CA has never like different width walls 2x6 >2x4 --- did this bug come back? ) , I moved cabinets away etc but it didn't help. - although there are no moldings in the Room it appears that there is a shadow of Crown Molding or ???? around the Room - The Mirror lost it's reflections ( maybe a preference setting I missed somewhere? I seem to remember one ) *** Ok found the reflection setting in the Edit Camera View DBX, it is no longer a global preference on the Render Tab as previously - After changing the Countertops to White Carrara Marble one Cabinet's Material appears to be 90 deg. to the other two (it's blurry too)..... what I did was I changed the indicated cabinet's countertop to Carrara and the backsplash to the same Carrara I used in the Shower and then made it the Cabinet Default (using button), and the other two cabinets Countertops changed but the backsplash I had to do manually still for each one ? Thanks for any advice....
  7. Hi ICTHOMES , I am always happy to help if I can and find it helps me learn too , but I appreciate the kinds words , thanks very much. I am working back in town thankfully after doing a Contract without internet access etc for many months , so I am hoping to spend a bit more time with Chief and learning it's many in and outs here on Chief Forum and over on the Home side too this year. Sounds like I have a big decision today though , I was not really expecting Scott's comment earlier in the thread yesterday , so I am now thinking X9 is really X8.5 .
  8. Same response I got unfortunately since my SSA is not valid to Feb 15th 2017. I asked about paying for 6 months SSA too so my SSA doesn't fall at Xmas with all the other Holidays Bills and then Pay for the Yearly Renewal in July again but they won't allow that either.....
  9. I liked the X7 to X8 new Features but I haven't heard much about the X9 beta and it new Features etc due to the NDA and had hoped for more info before my renewal this week. As a Contractor who does most of his own Drawings , I was hoping the Materials List had been updated/easier to use and working correctly and that the common bugbear of Stairs had been somewhat made better.
  10. Hi Guys, been a while since I posted but that is not quite correct, I have SSA but it is not valid to Feb 15th so I can't get the Beta, so I asked yesterday to try it before renewing as it seems my $500 didn't get me much last year, but I was told no. So I am here reading X9 posts to see if it is worth SSA this year, since I am not a full-time Chiefer , but hoping to spend more time using it again this year now I will be working back in Town. Thanks.
  11. Not sure if it works for what you are trying to do but you can as you start to drag an item hit TAB and then input the distance and angle of the move too. M.
  12. if Mark's suggestion doesn't work , open it in sketchup , rotate it up to vertical and resave it , then import it.
  13. It almost looks like you are using the wrong annotation scale ( too large?) Seaside and it is blocking into those green blobs....
  14. You can't use this method and have Auto Roofs on at the same time, but it just means you have to go into the Build Roof DBX and "Build Roof Planes" each time manually if you don't want to loss previous work.
  15. not sure if Ver.7 qualifies for an Upgrade Pricing Rebate ? ( online only shows back to ver.10) but you can download the HD Pro Trial for free and Try it, graphics ae pretty good (render Only) , but if you want Photo Realism (Ray Tracing) then CA Interiors or Premier are the only options , however if only doing it for a 1 off project perhaps a bit expensive ?
  16. do you have deck framing/planking etc turned off in Display Options? BTW the Home Designer Forum is here : (same User ID and PW as here) https://hometalk.chiefarchitect.com/
  17. a framing reference should work I think , if you already used one on say the rafters use one on the joists too or post the plan.... M.
  18. try zipping it and then attaching..... it must be under 25mb to attach.
  19. The Jing download is available for Windows or Mac., Jing is Snag-It's little Brother, and works well , they have a good tutorial page to get you started too. https://www.techsmit.../download/jing/ and the Jing Tutorials Page too https://www.techsmit...orial-jing.html
  20. Looking again at the DBX's in the 1st post I think Glenn maybe right in that you have checked "foundation Wall" on the 1st level wall's DBX , rather than Build a monolithic Slab Foundation right ? M.
  21. that is true for something that large you may need to look for a Seamless Texture.
  22. is it this issue ? https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/index.php?/topic/6435-materials-not-mapping-to-sketchup-objects-properly/#entry57417 otherwise post the plan so someone can look at settings.
  23. Where did you find UGM Videos Larry? , I didn't see a link in the Video Train area , Thx. I was told the Hillside Contemporary Plan in the Samples Area was only up for the UGM and would be taken down but have not seen any other UGM content yet.
  24. Hi Ross , It was just your Framing defaults , subfascias must always be 1 nominal size smaller than the Fascia used on the Gable or Eave otherwise there is no room for the Soffit material Your sketch shows no Eave subfascia so I turned it off ( if there is one it would need to be a 2x4 with 2x6 fascia) Your Gables do have subfascia as you need backing for the soffit, so it needs to be 2x4 too. (would be nailed to lookouts as a fly rafter) ( in your last pic I think the Gables are 2x8 , at least so the Subfascia would be 2x6 or 1 size smaller) Roof Trouble_MH.plan M.
  25. Thanks Wendy , good vids again. MUCH appreciated. Not sure you saw it yest. but there is a post on that arrow you are using and how it has a Bug in X7and it not resizing itself properly on Zooming , I had stopped using it too , but Kirk confirmed it is a "known issue" here: https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/index.php?/topic/6437-temporary-dimension-extension-arrows/#entry58140
