  1. Thanks Chad , nice of you to say that, but I wouldn't put myself in the "Expert" Camp particularly when it comes to CAD Work in Chief , I don't find it very intuitive at all , but if I can make a Header detail I am sure you can too ... here is the one I made for a Project recently just as an example...It's applied using the Window and Door Interior Lintel Tab/Option. Header Details.calibz
  2. It's a known Issue ........Lots of info in the Lets PBR Thread but see this post from yesterday
  3. I have seen this circle phenomena reported before , about a month ago, it is an Ambient Occlusion issue and is apparently seen on Older AMD VideoCards , Chief said they were looking into it... https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/topic/16596-rendering-problems-in-x10/ https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/topic/16596-rendering-problems-in-x10/?do=findComment&comment=139872 not sure if AMD is the issue here though ? or perhaps the Final release has another new Issue? you don't have a Signature Greg? so not sure what you are using or can't I see it? see mine for a how too if you don't have one.....
  4. You may need to set the Snap indicator size larger so you see it too eg try 10 or 12 instead of the default 6.... M.
  5. I don't think Signatures show if you use the Mobile Website ...or you may have them off in the Forum Preferences? over on the RIGHT hand side you may or may not see a X with a down arrow , under the Reputation Box (Heart Icon) Let's not tell anyone you are using your Brother's Copy Tutorials on the Website or on the CD ? are they for your Version? that could be the Issue , unfortunately I have not used CA that long only X5 and Up post some pics of what you see in Preferences. My sig. Mick Chief X5 - X9, X10 Beta Win10 Pro ..running on (2) 32" BENQ BL3200PT Monitors Asus X99A-II c/w 5820k CPU , 32GB RAM and Nvidia GTX 980Ti *** to fill in your Signature like this .... go up to the top RH Corner click on your UserName>Account Settings>Signature.... ***To add Pics to your Posts please use Windows Snipping Tool , found under Windows Accessories in your Start Menu, Save the Snip to your Desktop and Drag it into the Light Grey Area of the Reply Window.
  6. Assuming nothing has changed in 13 years the red X is for intersections which maybe turned off ? should be at Preferences>Edit>Snap Properties if the same as today ??? @bservial has older versions too so maybe he can advise you more.... Also, it's good to have your Forum Signature filled in please, especially with the Software Version, and of course a Name is nice too ..............see mine below in Blue for how to do that. If you don't see my Signature then you have them turned off for the Forum or are perhaps on the CA Mobile WebSite.
  7. I don't think that is an Option for PBR ...not 1 I have seen anyway but changing the Glass to Glass-Grey works.... at least in my current Plan it tends to "white out"
  8. As for the Cedar it will depend on the Wall definition and how the two walls Align ...they usually Align over the "Main Layer Outside" , ie usually the Framing , so just making the wall thicker won't work unless you "resize about Inner Surface" perhaps. ( Alt-Q Shortcut key) Will they be aligned in real life? (RL) if yes then build your wall layers as in RL, ie the Hardi will be mounted on 1/2 thick Treated Battens usually (Rain-screen) , there should likely be a Flashing detail between them too. I hope your Client realizes Cedar requires ALOT of maintenance , it looks great for the 1st 2-3 years but tends to take a beating with UV, Rain etc as it can move dramatically in different weather conditions..... M.
  9. Another Tip too ....Try changing the Default Full Camera to use PBR instead of Standard View 1st, so you don't need to switch Views ( which can be an issue if Improve Light Quality is used in the PBR Technique Tab ) 1. Change PBR technique to .25 Exposure 2. Change PBR technique to 20 Brightness 3. Change Default Sun to 2000 lux ----------- may need to be 100 >10,000 depending on the scene lighting already. ( 500 for Exteriors) 4. Adjust Full Camera Automatic Lights to 100 ( 8 is the Default ) this one seems IMPORTANT https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/topic/16912-lets-pbr/?do=findComment&comment=142683
  10. Every one thinks they "need" an Island nowadays for good or Bad
  11. I think She mentions going to 4 different places in the new PBR Video pretty much SOP at CA...... a gazillion DBX's to go through ( and remember ) as usual.... https://www.chiefarchitect.com/videos/watch/2426/physically-based-rendering-technique.html
  12. Looks good , nice work as usual...... but should the Sun really have this much effect Inside ? especially in a Basement...... I am finding 2000 lux is high enough in a lot of cases so at 100,000 it's a total white out. The OOB settings for PBR are not well done or Tested.... if the Lux settings are correct then the PBR Engine isn't interpreting them correctly , at 100,000 it's like I'm in the Sun not outside at Noon I see they are now recommending setting the Auto-lights to 100 in their Video too.... problem is none of the settings in the Video are Published anywhere Else....eg a KB Article, I had to work that out myself and use other Tips from you eg .25 Exposure and 20 Brightness etc. M.
  13. Chopsaw is right the old advice was to set it to 300" (25') , been a while since I saw anyone complain about that...... Always good to start a drawing near 0'0' too.... ( check your Template Plan ) M. https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-00107/troubleshooting-why-materials-appear-to-flicker-when-a-camera-view-is-rotated.html
  14. Ahhhhh and here I was thinking She had done something Fancy , Thanks to both of you..... I couldn't see the Tree for the Forest apparently.... In the Past, I have also just done it using Extra Floors directly above so a small Reno like a Bathroom is all in One Plan eg. Level 2 ------ Existing 2nd Floor Bathroom Level 3 ------ 2nd Floor Bathroom Option 1 Level 4 ------ 2nd Floor Bathroom Option 2 Level 5 ------ 2nd Floor Bathroom Option 3 *** neither method works well if you want Material Lists ... Thanks. M.
  15. I did look through that section of the Video a couple of times but there is no detail on how She did it unfortunately..... I assume with Anno and Layersets though as that seems to be all Plan Views Save , other than the Zoom Factor and Defaults. M.
  16. I'm still not sure how She created the 3 "Option" Views either ... I assume you need to put EVERYTHING in the plan onto a unique Option1 Layer to hide it , then build Option 2 from the Shell ( empty room) , then put ALL that on a unique Option2 layer and Hide it so you can do Option 3 ? etc etc. Seems to me a quick "Save As" Option 2 Plan file is faster and easier.... or I am doing something wrong? .......... it's likely since I have not embraced Plan Views yet but was trying it for a new Bathroom Reno
  17. You would need to post the .plan file here while HD is closed , the .dxf is not so useful , unless using Autocad , eg the Engineer may use it. M.
  18. Charles post this earlier ...maybe some more info in the PDF File he linked on Page 54. I still have X8 installed on another Computer , so I could test for Corruption in the Files but that doesn't help you , as you could not open an X8 File if I saved it. I also have x7 still on that computer but again not much help. David Potter has many Versions Installed, so he maybe able to help you though...
  19. Just to Clarify Tommy's comment ...you need to right Click on the Name of the Profile you want to get the "Place Molding Profile" Option , not the Image in the Preview Windows. M.
  20. Reply by hitting the word Quote , not the + Button if you want to include a quote ..which is always good I think, since context online is hard to see sometimes. You should report the Issue in that bad Textures Thread as @Chief_Content is watching that thread for problems...
  21. This is what I am finding too , the suggestion by Brian just doesn't work well enough in my playing around so far with it (ie 100% specular 0% roughness I think? ) M.
  22. Thanks Graham , great advice , I had not played around with the View at that Point I was just happy to get it working , it's the Existing Bathroom so I didn't play around much yet as it is getting torn out.... so far I just added a small (working) light inside the Vanity Light to stop the Auto light blowing the view with it centered on the room ceiling next to the Skylight M.
  23. Chief doesn't on walls just ceilings, there is a Line outside the Drywall but no Layer , like on Ceilings......is that what you mean? maybe they figured it out like you cos I don't see a "layer" in x9 or x10. ......0.003" just becomes 0" in Chief's DBX's , it's not even 1/10th of a mm (0.08mm) ..... in most DBX's 1/128th is the smallest, some won't go below 1/64th or even 1/32"
  24. I think he has v8 (not X8) and is trying to open even older Files Dermot , not sure if you have any info on that issue? did the File type/paradigm change about then? M.
  25. Alt+ Z is the Default Hot Key for the Default Edit Mode already according to the Hot-Key Table but neither of use can get it to work so we are both doing something in the wrong sequence or time as the Default Edit Mode Icon disables Concentric as expected. I tried assigning D instead as Chris mentioned and it's doesnt enable Default again either , so I figure I am doing it wrong ....I usually just use the Icons , never been a Hotkey User so figure I am doing it wrong? M.
