  1. Should work just assign same wall type to upper and lower...and change the colour or type of siding in one of them.... no different than say have having Stone on the bottom 1/3 or something like that. Perhaps do it in a "Saved As" plan just in case something goes Sideways though....
  2. I don't think X6 has Material Regions? .............or maybe your signature needs Updating ? So Wall Covering for a Quick View perhaps
  3. I don't think Lesser Versions of the HD product line can do SCALED drawings and HD Pro only has ONE layout Page ..... So you need a copy of the Plan for each Page you need Printed in that Scenario.... Versions like Suite can't even do that AFAIR? M.
  4. X10 is not resetting the File Associations to X10 ( from X9) properly it appears so use the Import Library Function on the Library Menu , do not double click the Files to install them or it may fail. This applies currently to ALL Libraries Imported , not just mine posted here, thx. If the File Association isn't set for X10 , then Double Clicking the Library File would cause it to try and import into X9 , and if made in X10 the Library may fail to import ... and I am not sure if you'd see the Error Message about a "File made in a newer version" in this scenario? and it not installing. how to check : https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/topic/17090-setting-x10-to-the-default-program-for-plan-and-layout-files/
  5. I have reported it to Brian Beck several times now but it maybe related to double Clicking the Library Files to Import them instead of Using the Import Library Function on the Menu. X10 is not resetting the File Associations to x10 ( from X9) properly it appears. If the File Association isn't set for X10 , then Double Clicking the Library File would cause it to try and import into X9 , and if made in X10 the Library may fail to import ...I am not sure if you'd see an Error Message about a "File made in a newer version" in this scenario? https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/topic/17090-setting-x10-to-the-default-program-for-plan-and-layout-files/
  6. ====================================================================================================== June 28th 2020 *** AS OF VERSION X11 CHIEF HAS ADDED A TOOL TO PREFERENCES TO DO THIS FOR YOU, GO TO Preferences > General> File Management > File Association ......... which is at the very bottom of the TAB. ====================================================================================================== ***Dec. 2018*** For X10 and lower versions Microsoft has now fixed File associations and you can do it via Start>Settings>Apps>Default Apps> scroll down to Choose Default App by File Type near the bottom (not File Protocol) Now scroll Down and find each Chief File type and change the Default to Chief Architect X10 ( or your version ) X10 should be in the list for each type to choose from for these File Types... .alb .calib .calibz .layout (sketchup maybe associated at times with this one) .plan .undoplan If Chief isn't listed or a choice above it should offer to look for Other Apps.... so scroll all the way down to "look for other Apps on this PC" (in blue) if X10 is not on the List already and in the Windows Explorer Window go to : C:\Program Files\Chief Architect\Chief Architect Premier X10 (64 bit) and select the File Chief Architect Premier X10.exe after the 1st File type (.alb above) X10 should be in the list for the Others and you won't need to do this part again.... you can only change one at a time so do these 6 types... Mick. ================================================================================ ***Nov 2018*** A recent Windows 10 Update has Broken File Associations for Many Programs . not just Chief --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- *** EDITED OCT 2018*** It seems the Methods below may no longer work since the Windows 10 1803 Update in April Some other Options are : 1.) You can also Right Click any .calibz file or .plan or .layout etc and Choose Open With>CA X10 (scroll Down to bottom if you don't see X10 listed and choose look on PC (see path below) and Select it, once found look for the Checkbox that says Always Use this App Check it 1st and then hit Ok The Default Full Path to the CA X10 Program is "C:\Program Files\Chief Architect\Chief Architect Premier X10 (64 bit)\Chief Architect Premier X10.exe" 2.) You can also goto Control Panel>Default Programs>Select CA X10 and the Repair Button should appear and you can Use it to repairs Files for the Installed Program, this does not effect Settings etc at least not when I have tried it. This is useful if you re-install X9 or one of the Home Designer Products or an older version of CA, AFTER X10 and they overwrite the Defaults For X10. To Open Control Panel Right Click START>System> scroll to bottom on the right hand side and Chose System Info under Related Settings. In the top left hand Corner click on Control panel Home>Programs and Features> select Chief Architect Premier X10 (64bit) and on the Ribbon next to the Organize dropdown Arrow you should see Repair appear, click on it and the Repair will begin. ( it will look like the Installer is running again) 3.) There is also some Command-line Options available if you are familiar with Dos and the Command Prompt? ask if you need them , I will post them if needed but I don't want people messing their system up by accident. ================================================================================================== Original Method The X10 Upgrade does not seem to have reset the Default Application for .Plan, .layout .calib and .calibz , .alb Files, .undoplan to X10, which is why X9 is still opening when you double Click any of these File Types instead, from reading here on the Forum, it looks like it hasn't done this on the Mac OS either Instruction for Mac High Sierra OS are in Post #2 Chief does not appear to have the ability to re-register default File Types like some Programs do, but it can be done manually via the settings App or Control Panel ( better/easier ). In Windows goto : >Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Default Programs\Set Associations if that just takes you back to the Settings App , right click the Start Button >Run and it the box copy and Paste this and hit <Enter> : control /name Microsoft.DefaultPrograms /page pageFileAssoc goto each File extension. ( list below) and click the Change program button at top right. scroll all the way down to "look for other Apps on this PC" (in blue) if X10 is not on the List already ( wasn't for me) and in the Windows Explorer Window goto : C:\Program Files\Chief Architect\Chief Architect Premier X10 (64 bit) and select the File Chief Architect Premier X10.exe after the 1st File type (.alb) X10 should be in the list for the Others and you won't need to do that again.... you can only change one at a time so do these 6 types... .alb .calib .calibz .layout (sketchup maybe associated at times with this one) .plan .undoplan Mick.
  7. In this case just build them like you see them in the pic. it is just a series of standard cabinets at different heights , you can add a sloped p-solid at the top if you want but if the bottom of the stair is finished , then it can be eliminated to save the Client some money. M.
  8. This was an Issue a few years ago but I think it has been fixed now..... since we can adjust overhangs on all edges now , and the auto countertop is smarter now in these situations , check the STD cabinets in the attached plan... they seem okay to me after a few adjustments.... I saved a number of cameras and sections.... And in this case it was not necessary to do a Custom Top either as your cabinet has applied moldings , so on the middle cabinet I just added a 1" piece behind the the Edge molding to push it out, seems to have worked.... jennaWINEGARDNERentertainmentcenter_MHD.plan M.
  9. The plan is yours , I just turn the Crown on and dropped 3 6" Cans from the Chief Library into it ....I was having issues earlier today with some Cans I had in my User Library not working correctly especially on a Vaulted/Sloped ceiling , so I tried Chief's X10 Library ones and they worked in my plan fine too. I just resaved your plan and posted it back with those two things done.....
  10. You can export the Ones from x9 that you don't have in X10 and import them into x10 , they just may not look as good as the x10 Materials as many of the Libraries are being updated for X10 to accomodate the new PBR Camera Views. If it's just a Colour Issue then just change the Colour of one the X10 Library Items to what you need ...Copy it to your User Library 1st. M.
  11. Not sure if Suite as the Upper Pitch option like Pro or Chief does ?? doesn't sound like it... I see your Signature now , so I guess you figured it out..... I don't think the Mobile Website shows them? or you have them off on the right hand side off the reply window , there is a X (cross) under the Reputation up and down Buttons..
  12. If Suite has the Upper Pitch Setting in the (White in photo) Wall Roof Tab ? you should be able to set it up ...... set it in from baseline at 12ft-14ft for example ..... normal pitch is your Porch roof , the Upper Pitch is the House main roof .....since it's you house you could get a rough measurement for the "in from baseline measurement. YOu do need accurate Roof Pitches....use a level APP on your Phone if needed. Also, it's good to have your Forum Signature filled in please, especially with the Software Version, and of course a Name is nice too ..............see mine below in Blue for how to do that. If you don't see my Signature then you have them turned off for the Forum or are perhaps on the CA Mobile WebSite. you can use the same password and User name on Hometalk too.
  13. Thanks Mike , always happy to have more Choices.... M.
  14. I am not sure what you are doing right now but the posted plan above does not have Crown molding Defined in the Room>Moldings Tab hence you don't have any..... shows for me as soon as I add it.... are you saying it turns off if you add a few recessed cans? Plan1_MHD.plan
  15. Thanks Mike , they are Pretty Common here especially on Older Homes , but many Modern Transitional Homes use them too , locally we call them Headers , them and a nice wide baseboard and a 4"- 5" Crown and I think things look great without going over the top or getting really expensive.
  16. Thanks again Robert , looks good , they imported fine here to my User Library ( they aren't in a HardiPanel Folder Melissa, if that's what you looked for? ) M.
  17. I have now set my Full Camera default View to start with PBR not STD view and seem to be having less Issues..... you are correct in your Findings , the switching, seems to cause it if Improve Lighting Quality is already on.... and the default Sun Lux setting is too high. But I'm still playing with it too M.
  18. Thanks Chad , nice of you to say that, but I wouldn't put myself in the "Expert" Camp particularly when it comes to CAD Work in Chief , I don't find it very intuitive at all , but if I can make a Header detail I am sure you can too ... here is the one I made for a Project recently just as an example...It's applied using the Window and Door Interior Lintel Tab/Option. Header Details.calibz
  19. It's a known Issue ........Lots of info in the Lets PBR Thread but see this post from yesterday
  20. I have seen this circle phenomena reported before , about a month ago, it is an Ambient Occlusion issue and is apparently seen on Older AMD VideoCards , Chief said they were looking into it... https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/topic/16596-rendering-problems-in-x10/ https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/topic/16596-rendering-problems-in-x10/?do=findComment&comment=139872 not sure if AMD is the issue here though ? or perhaps the Final release has another new Issue? you don't have a Signature Greg? so not sure what you are using or can't I see it? see mine for a how too if you don't have one.....
  21. You may need to set the Snap indicator size larger so you see it too eg try 10 or 12 instead of the default 6.... M.
  22. I don't think Signatures show if you use the Mobile Website ...or you may have them off in the Forum Preferences? over on the RIGHT hand side you may or may not see a X with a down arrow , under the Reputation Box (Heart Icon) Let's not tell anyone you are using your Brother's Copy Tutorials on the Website or on the CD ? are they for your Version? that could be the Issue , unfortunately I have not used CA that long only X5 and Up post some pics of what you see in Preferences. My sig. Mick Chief X5 - X9, X10 Beta Win10 Pro ..running on (2) 32" BENQ BL3200PT Monitors Asus X99A-II c/w 5820k CPU , 32GB RAM and Nvidia GTX 980Ti *** to fill in your Signature like this .... go up to the top RH Corner click on your UserName>Account Settings>Signature.... ***To add Pics to your Posts please use Windows Snipping Tool , found under Windows Accessories in your Start Menu, Save the Snip to your Desktop and Drag it into the Light Grey Area of the Reply Window.
  23. Assuming nothing has changed in 13 years the red X is for intersections which maybe turned off ? should be at Preferences>Edit>Snap Properties if the same as today ??? @bservial has older versions too so maybe he can advise you more.... Also, it's good to have your Forum Signature filled in please, especially with the Software Version, and of course a Name is nice too ..............see mine below in Blue for how to do that. If you don't see my Signature then you have them turned off for the Forum or are perhaps on the CA Mobile WebSite.
  24. I don't think that is an Option for PBR ...not 1 I have seen anyway but changing the Glass to Glass-Grey works.... at least in my current Plan it tends to "white out"
  25. As for the Cedar it will depend on the Wall definition and how the two walls Align ...they usually Align over the "Main Layer Outside" , ie usually the Framing , so just making the wall thicker won't work unless you "resize about Inner Surface" perhaps. ( Alt-Q Shortcut key) Will they be aligned in real life? (RL) if yes then build your wall layers as in RL, ie the Hardi will be mounted on 1/2 thick Treated Battens usually (Rain-screen) , there should likely be a Flashing detail between them too. I hope your Client realizes Cedar requires ALOT of maintenance , it looks great for the 1st 2-3 years but tends to take a beating with UV, Rain etc as it can move dramatically in different weather conditions.....
