Not 100% sure from you description but the Default for Surface Edge Lines in X8 maybe different than in X9 or X10 perhaps? having Layer Settings off or on causes CA to use Black lines on all edges (Or not) , so perhaps different by default in X8? needs to be on in X10 to get them for me. Defaults>3D View Defaults>3D Views> at the bottom there are two check boxes ...hit F1 to get an explanation for each. KB

If you prefer Videos there is this one below......but I think you may have missed or glossed over some of the CA "basics" along the way...... eg CA only provides about 15 Wall Types ( plus a bonus Library) so you really need to make your own in a lot of cases to suit local practices..... a 3 1/2" framed Wall is just that .....ie only framing.... https://www.chiefarchitect.com/videos/watch/5454/creating-a-new-wall-type-with-a-new-material.html

Have you worked through the Tutorial Guide ? or Opened the Wall Definition Tool and hit F1 (help File-context sensitive to DBX open) You will need to make or Alter an existing wall to make your 4" Stacked Stone Wall type..... DON'T change or Alter a Chief Default Wall , always make a Copy 1st , Rename it and then modify it as needed adding the need layers and materials, eg start with Siding 4 and make a Stone 4 Wall type. The KnowledgeBase is always a good place to check for Tutorials ( and PDFs) especially for the "basics" , this one will step you through it....... https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-02944/defining-a-new-wall-type.html M.

Have a look at Jintu's Site as one example of pricing for Renders etc, (per view, not Drawing) but definitely not charging enough I'd say, but you are also learning Chief currently and depending on your market you may have to balance some of that against losing the work altogether, if they think you are charging too much. The Time log built into each drawing should give you an idea on how many hours it is taking which may help you work out a better Rate too. http://www.jintudesigns.com/3d-rendering-prices.html

I think you might be better off just using the Pine tongue and Groove in the Siding and panelling Library and darken it up with a Blend

X10 error message on camera views and default setting changes
Kbird1 replied to TennVol's topic in General Q & A
On a Laptop, I have used X10 on a 1050Ti and a 1060 , both had acceptable performance to me , if looking at older laptops perhaps a 970 or GTX 980 , on a desktop I briefly used a 950 while waiting for my 1070Ti to comeback from RMA too and it was usable, I just didn't open extra 3D Windows on other monitors. -
Same Material Same Properties - Different Display in PBR

Always best to post the Plan in these situations, then people wouldn't need to guess, I am sure Graham would of looked at it for you for example.... M. -
X10 error message on camera views and default setting changes
Kbird1 replied to TennVol's topic in General Q & A
Are you talking about another Laptop, or a Desktop ? the recommendation is to get something with a gaming series Nvidia Graphics card, it is actually a fairly good time if you have to buy as prices have come down alot in the last year especially for Graphics cards. Anything in the 9 , 10 or 20 series would be best. Even if you got a new computer (boxing day sales) it should be capable of running Win7 too and perhaps even be able to use the same Win7 license , (assuming you are going to continue to use Win7 on the old one). Are you sure your old software needs Win7? M. -
The goto Render currently is Lumion , do a Forum search on Lumion and you will find other Threads and Samples.... Most people are using PBR now instead of Raytracing due to the time for view (60-600 secs) , just make sure you have used the Library Update Catalog Menu Item to make sure you have all the latest textures.....this is of course assuming you have x10??? ... (you haven't done your Forum Signature) if on X9 RT is the only choice or exporting to a Rendering Engine line Lumion or Thea for example... M.

X10 error message on camera views and default setting changes
Kbird1 replied to TennVol's topic in General Q & A
There were issues, IIRC earlier in the year when x10 came out with older ATI Cards. Not sure if that was resolved or not but they recommend 4GB of VRAM now ,with 1GB the minimum, so you maybe on the minimum threshold as far as that is concerned, the Render TAB in Prefs. should give you that info. https://www.chiefarchitect.com/products/sysreq.html -
All doable and all fixable , but we need to know what version of the Software you have to help which is why we ask that the Signature is done , as the answers for a Home Designer product are far different than how it would be done in CA Premier. M.

Upgrading from Home Designer to Chief Architect
Kbird1 replied to jnicbell321's topic in General Q & A
might be an idea to watch the X10 what's new Videos and some on the 3D rendering added in X10 https://www.chiefarchitect.com/videos/playlists/148/features-introduced-in-x10.html?playlist=139 https://www.chiefarchitect.com/videos/watch/2412/3d-rendering-features-added-in-x10.html?playlist=148 this one on PBR should help setup your default Cameras, many are only using PBR now..... https://www.chiefarchitect.com/videos/watch/2426/ Raytracing https://www.chiefarchitect.com/videos/watch/1914/ lots of info in the "Lets PBR" thread too https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/topic/16912-lets-pbr/?tab=comments#comment-142170 Some good examples https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/topic/16932-show-your-pbr-goodies/?tab=comments#comment-142321 https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/gallery/album/16-our-chief-renderings-jintudesigns/ -
That is my understanding too, I assumed though, while viewing he was still seeing the two images? hopefully it isn't a "brain" issue , the image above certainly looks wrong with all the curves in the flooring etc , of course I am assuming a "square" room to start. Perhaps the 360 Pano is messed up, not the camera?

Never tried it or seen it used but I would suggest trying a different phone 1st , as perhaps tech support again in the hope for finding someone familiar with the Tech.
-
From the photo it shows there is no continuous grip rail top to bottom ( an issue here now at least ) but one could easily be added one side or the other.....
-
The plan is even slower on my system R. but I believe it is because your symbol is causing Chief to have to draw Thousands and thousands of lines even in 2D ...... your lawn zoomed in...... PS your system specs don't make sense to me.......ie 8GB DDR 3 or 64 GB DDR4? I am assuming the 8 GB DDR3 was your old system?
-
I tried downloading the File again and even restarting my Computer and it continues to happen, not sure which CA you have as you haven't filled in your Sig. ( see mine for how) but it happens in two different versions of CA , almost immediately on opening the Plan..... @solver Eric didn't mention it though which i guess means not everyone is experiencing it.... Include the error pic above for tech support if you haven't as there is no reporting button on this error like some....
-
Have not seen this before but there is something going on with your plan......x10 didn't crash though.

You may or may not have to Add ( or replace) a "Selected Profile" in the Molding Profiles area above the one Glenn mentions 1st depending on the Template you started with, some only come with the Baseboard set up by default. Use the dropdown once again as it will only show baseboard 1st off. You can also change it per Room , in the Room's DBX if the whole Floor doesn't have Crown or Base, uncheck "use Floor default" 1st.

this is in the Announcements Forum now too...

one wall or the other must be selected 1st..... may need to zoom into Dim. No# to get it to allow a change....

You're right, I missed it sitting on top of the lower Roof plane..... not used to seeing it outside the Roof Plane itself like that. M.

anyone may apply to be on the Beta Team , if interested in the Beta, and your SSA is Valid, (For more than 3 months???) you can/have to send a request email to beta@chiefarchitect.com

Not sure I have seen a Roof Plane quite like the one in the Test plan , but the reason there is no Fascia is that the bottom edge of the Roof Plane is not Perpendicular to the slope of the Roof (parallel to the Baseline) and when this is true, CA adds/builds a ledger/header instead as it assumes some kind of header is needed to join to the Header/ledger/ridge (whichever) of the Roof plane below it instead. Pull the bottom edge of the roof plane around to 90° to the Slope and rebuild the Framing and you will now see the fascia is there instead in a Section view thru the Roof plane, below and even a Gutter. The easiest way to tell where the fascia is, since there appears to be no baseline, ( it's there see post below) is to Turn on the Roof Plane Label and the Roof Slope Arrow will point at the Fascia Roof edge. The other way, if you aren't sure is to open an Overview Camera and go split vertical Screen, so you can see what's going on when manipulating the 2D Roof Plane Polylines, in 3D too. In some cases you will also see a Gutter if the bottom edge is perpendicular to the roof slope ( parallel to the baseline) too as mentioned, if Gutters are on, in the Options Tab of the Build Roof DBX.
