  1. Might be something that needs reporting to Tech Support so the Developers can look at it , rather than posting about it on the Suggestions Forum, where it maybe never seen. Did not open the plan as the pic seems like it is definitely incorrect.... M.
  2. Nice Tutorial Bob , I'd suggest you also Put it over in the Tips Forum with some Tags for Hasp and 10.08 as this seems to be asked monthly at least and may get lost on this old thread. https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/forum/24-tips-techniques/
  3. This works well ...still requires some editing though, been doing it this way when needed since X9..... https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/topic/16852-board-and-batten-library/?tab=comments#comment-141647 M.
  4. Not Automatic but I use %layout.label% on page 0 for Numbering and if I need a 6.1 for example, I insert a Sheet after 6 and simply number it myself as 6.1 without the hashtag/pound sign (which is what forces Chief to number consecutively and renumber) via the Edit Page info DBX. Of course YMMV but it seems to work okay for when I need it. *** Example done using Chief's ARCH D Template File from the CA Data>Templates>Layout Borders>Imperial>Arch D.layout M.
  5. No, not automatically but it has been Requested as a Change I believe. M.

  7. Its not to you it is spam advertising ...use the report button top right , i already have... M.
  8. I linked you right to Chief's tutorial on how to do them above? M.
  9. The files are left behind quite often, especially if there is a crash or other issue... I was told some years back CA can't open them as the Header File is missing, but only Dermot perhaps could confirm that? Just thought it maybe worth an ask..... if he has an Undo.plan and most often you don't, as mentioned. But as you can see here from a plan I on worked on back in Nov. they are indeed left behind .........At 26mb I would assume it is the Whole plan.....since the final plan was 19mb though I have no idea why some are 26mb and others are 7mb or even 2mb.
  10. Chief calls it a Belly Band , personally I have never heard it called that though.... this is Chief's tutorial: https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-00070/adding-a-belly-band-to-a-structure.html M.
  11. Forgot to mention that , although chief can't open .Undo.plan files you could perhaps ask Tech Support if they have a tool to do so ... ......If you have an Undo.plan file in the Undo folder? Mick.
  12. That may happen if you didn't give the Plan a name until the final save when you closed it . The Archiving/Backup System doesn't work unless the File has a name , should be the 1st thing you do after open a new plan.....but likely you know that .... So perhaps something else is up ? did you get the infamous error where Chief disappears off the Screen with your work and were not offered an opportunity to save? I have seen this several times and there were no recoverable Archives either for some reason for that Session..... happens in both PC and MAC versions https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-03049/troubleshooting-chief-architect-software-closing-unexpectedly-on-windows.html https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-02940/troubleshooting-chief-architect-software-closing-unexpectedly-on-a-mac.html
  13. In case you missed it : https://www.chiefarchitect.com/blog/computer-for-design-and-gaming/
  14. If that doesn't help ...it should ...I found CA has them off by default..... BUT Windows 10 also has a setting now similar to MAC OS computers that lets the OS hide Scrollbars too
  15. the lighting does suggest that the Shelves have 1 1/2" lips on their front edges and perhaps 1/2" LED strips mount on the rear of the Lips , rather than vertical Strips.
  16. I've been using the one linked below, I made a couple of years ago for that , just resize the texture for different "gap" distances.... *** all Credit to David for the original texture in the same thread. https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/topic/17162-smooth-shiplap-sample/?do=findComment&comment=144121
  17. No , not as a .plan file , only Chief and the Home Designer Products can open them...
  18. You set the ROOM height not the Wall Height , CA is not like ACAD ...Wall Plate Heights are controlled by the Room Ceiling Height and / or Roof Planes. You should have a Read of the Short tutorial on doing a Cape Cod or 1 1/2 Story style Roof ..... TIP: you may need to turn Auto Roof off at some point to stop the Room Height from altering Roof heights. Building a Cape Cod or a Story and a Half Roof (chiefarchitect.com) M.
  19. I don't think it is a MAC thing Chief's whole paradigm is based around "Rooms" , which can be a good thing , but also bad in some cases..... No Room means no Floor structure, no Ceiling Structure, no moldings, no Auto Roof etc etc.......... Rooms are a very important concept in CA. ( 3 sided will do ) Chief will let you build a Foundation and even a 2nd floor with only 1 wall drawn but they will be blank in my previous testing. M.
  20. X13 will have enhanced PBR RTRT views in the Windows version (only) if you have a Nvidia RTX capable video Card, but there are also other render Apps like Twinmotion and D5 Render which are free ( or were) but come with the added complexity of learning another program. Lumion is on of the better paid Renders as Johnny mentioned but still not quite photo-realistic from what I have seen Unreal engine is out there too , but last time I looked it was harder to get files out of Chief for it...though that may have changed? M.
  21. "Crazy / Berserk" Terrain is usually an indicator of this as Mark has suggested........... DO NOT let Elevation Regions , Lines, etc touch or cross each other at all.... and I rarely use Elevation Points , they seem to make the "Crazy" worse Like Scott and Glenn I also stay away from Chief's Terrain Retaining Walls and just use Foundation Walls with a Terrain Break instead. M.
  22. This is a much requested feature for Chief and it was mentioned this week in another thread by Dermot, one of the Developers, that Chief has it on their ToDo List, being it is a common practice these days and also how I do all mine now, but it was still being worked on. Search the Forum for Fascia Mounted Railing you will find a few Threads going back 4-5 years at least i'd say.....including mine M.
  23. I still use the old polyline Solid method for many Trey (Tray) Ceilings as Chief's new (x12) Trey Ceiling Tool does NOT play well with Invisible Walls ( Room Dividers ) eg between a Kitchen and Family Room Area. Chief has Updated (Feb.2020) the the KB Article (KB201) on Trey Ceilings and no longer mentions the Old method ...but basically it is just a P.Solid with a Hole cut in it for the Trey , here is the Old PDF: Ceiling_Creating-a-trey-or-coffered-ceiling-using-polyline-solids.pdf
  24. Thanks for the thanks, but you do realize your answer doesn't help the next person with the same question who finds this post right ? M.
  25. If you have old Plans you may need the Ver. X8 Viewer to convert them , ie Plans with .pl1, .pl2 etc extensions. this Tutorial should help, click on the Green link on the webpage this link takes you too, to get the V.8 Veiwer if you need it : https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-00279/opening-legacy-files.html PS there are Free Layout templates pre-made in the Templates Folder , just delete the Chief Logo and name and insert your own. Mick.
