  1. What software do you have? sounds like you have not set level one's floor structure to concrete ( slab) or set the foundation level to a Monolithic Slab ? And the F1 Key is your best friend while in Chief...... M. https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/topic/18908-signature-here-at-chief-talk/?do=findComment&comment=155662
  2. probably best to ask in the Mobile Forum Joe , but as far as I know Chief no longer supports the Room Planner App. ( not sure you can even download it now? ) https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/forum/46-mobile-q-a/ M.
  3. More likely an Audio Driver Update from Dell, which triggered the Windows Store to update the Sonic Studio and Sonic Radar Windows Apps. On my laptop if I uninstall Sonic Radar ONLY Chief works fine but others with Dells have all been advised to remove both ... not sure why, and can't test as I don't have a Dell and their Command Center. M.
  4. Not just Laptops as in David's Alienware Desktop case....strange that it just started out of the blue though...
  5. There are many Tutorials on subjects like this in the KnowledgeBase (KB) , the KB is well worth checking 1st for article like this one.......... https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-00007/importing-and-applying-a-custom-picture-to-a-frame-computer-or-tv-screen.html M.
  6. Have a look here I re-wrote and old post and put it in the Tips Sections ..........
  7. How to change NVIDIA Optimus graphics settings July 2021. Windows 10 also has it own settings now and Chief has now made a KB article about how to set that up too. https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-03140/forcing-chief-architect-programs-to-use-a-specific-graphics-card-in-windows-10.html Dec. 2020 : Window's 10 also now has a some built in control of what graphics processor is used but this is my preferred method.... ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- It maybe worth updating your Intel Drivers ( download the Intel Driver and Support Assistant ) as well but in general this is an issue of the Nvidia (NV) Discrete Graphics Card not being used by Chief in your Laptop , and some Desktops. Many laptops ( and some Desktops ) come with both an Intel UHD Graphics Card and a Discrete Videocard Card eg a Nvidia Geforce GTX or RTX (or AMD Radeon), which is the Card, Chief should be using especially in 3D Windows. The Issue lies in that Chief is not "seen" as a 3D Game by Nvidia's Driver,(NV), so the switch may not always happen automatically, so we need to ADD Chief to the Nvidia Control Panel 3D Manage Page , and set the Nvidia card to be always used when Chief is Open ie: make it the "Preferred Graphics Processor" , this will likely need resetting EACH time the Driver is updated..... Desktop NV CP 1 Desktop NV CP 2 ( Chief already added to list ) How to add Chief to the "List" General Laptop "everything uses" NV Card Setting Laptop Chief NV CP Settings ( I recommend this only if plugged in to AC ) This mode will use a lot of your battery quickly Once set don't forget to set the Options ie No# 7 and 8 above in Desktop pic 2 too.
  8. This is a longtime Issue in Chief if boxed (flat) eaves are specified, Chief only extends the Sheathing to the top plate when there is a sloped eave. Generally you just fix in in the Cross Section with a few cad lines or with a CAD Box .....same for the Soffit backer ( 2x4) on the wall or needed blocking. KB
  9. It appears you have Built the Roof with Ignore 2nd Floor Checked ...is that how it will really be built ? ie the Roof Rafters off the 1st Floor Wall Plates? ...One method......Don't ignore the 2nd floor, instead set the ceiling to 1 1/2" high ( thickness of a 2x plate) temporarily , and switch it back to Full height after your don't need auto build roof any longer. Lots of good info in the KB ( KnowledgeBase) if you are just starting out ..........like this Article....see method no#2 https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-00772/building-a-cape-cod-or-a-story-and-a-half-roof.html KB.
  10. Might be easier to delete from Library and re-import using the advanced option if possible.... M.
  11. You are probably right ...never owned a MAC..... I maybe thinking of the MAC ALT Key issue ( use Option) , some Clients have had..... M.
  12. This can happen if you install it from the open dialog in the Browser when you download it ( and Chief isn't already open) or you drag and drop a .calibz into Chief , but I have found that the Library>Import option always works properly for me. these are Robert's textures though if a re-import doesn't work...... placing them in the Chief Data > Textures Folder should work , it's the 1st place Chief looks after the current plan folder I believe for missing textures. Racklore_NickelGap.zip M. This is the 8" Nickle Gap I use mentioned above.......... MHD_Nickle Gap 8in.calibz
  13. Might be Option not Command on some MACs..... ( keyboard differences???) M.
  14. Ctrl on windows ....works for me...... M.
  15. This is how Chief Works ....for windows it is the Jamb/Frame size that is used, for Doors it is the Door size and the Frame is outside that. You would need to set your default RO to 5/8 each side ( Window Defaults>Framing) for it to show a 24" wide window at 25 1/4" RO M.
  16. Chief's Trey Ceiling does not play well with invisible walls , so you are best to use other methods for that , eg a Polyline Solid and A P.Solid Hole for the trey. Ceiling_Creating-a-trey-or-coffered-ceiling-using-polyline-solids.pdf M.
  17. With Nvidia Drivers , you normally just run the Installer for the Version you want to use and use the Custom Install option and check the box for a Clean install but things can get messed up in which case I'd suggest using DDU Uninstaller with Nvidia Option checked. While DDU suggests using it from Safe Mode it will work in my experience just fine without that. Once run I would re-install whatever driver Dell sent with the system initially and see what happens. https://www.wagnardsoft.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=3403 M.
  18. Been running into this exact issue myself for a week or two , even forcing the Wall Materials to Use the "Default" does not work but on the Materials TAB it also seems hit and miss on whether it will accept (re)assignment there or not too. I am not sure if this is Related to the Spray Can tool ( my initial thought ) as the person I am helping has a perchant for Using it ( bad idea on exterior walls) frequently instead of changing the Wall definition. M.
  19. The User Catalog is not covered by the Autobackup system , that is your responsibility , I would suggest you call Tech. Support and see if they can help recover it. M.
  20. accidentally posted in the wrong thread by JLD https://www.usg.com/content/usgcom/en/design-studio/wall-assemblies.html
  21. Might be the 1st time I've seen that question .......I'd suggest Asking Chief C.S. , as it is likely linked to your Digital Locker these Days ...let us know please .... M.
  22. Great news...... Now switch to the All OFF Layer Set ( make sure ALL is actually off ) In the Display Options ( or ALDO) Turn ON..... just the Framing,Wall Layer Hold the Shift Key , ( called a marquee Select) and Select all the showing Framing (studs) Open the Objects per normal and on the Line Style Tab under Layer , change the Layer to your Addition Framing Layer. M.
  23. I didn't download the Plan as you and Eric had already figured out the Original Issue so I can't confirm it in this case. M.
  24. This is pretty typical if you make a Deck on an Upper Story that is partially or wholly over Living Space below, changing it to a Balcony for example will cause it to Frame the Floor as a "Normal Room" and not use CA's Auto Deck Framing. M.
  25. Trolling? ......Doesn't really happen here, the CA Community here is probably the best I have experienced anywhere online...... and is very protective of it's members too. The rest of it I really can't help you with :) M.
