Hello, Thank you for the post. We do not have a version of Room Planner that will run on Windows or Mac OS X. You can open plans created in Room Planner in our desktop software for Windows and Mac (Chief Architect and Home Designer). You can also run the desktop software on mobile computers such as a laptop or Microsoft Surface (system requirements permitting). You can use a Bluetooth laser distance meter with the desktop software for capturing as-built floor plans. If you would like to pass on your thoughts about running Room Planner on a full operating system you can send and email to us at suggestions@chiefarchitect.com We would be interested in learning more about why you are interested in running Room Planner on Windows and how you would envision using Room Planner on a device like a surface as apposed to a mobile device running android or iOS. Hello, Thank you for the questions. The video link below shows one technique for creating strip lights above a soffit. The segment for the lighting effect is at the end of the video. I have also attached an image of what this effect looks like in a rendering. Note that you will need to raytrace in order to get the lighting effect to show in the rendering. For the benefit of others reading this, I would like to preface the answer with the fact that all Chief Architect products come with a digital version of the Reference Manual and User's Guide. The documents can be found in a PDF format, and are linked to under the Help dropdown menu in the program. The electronic manuals are automatically updated periodically for a given version of Chief Architect. In regards to your specific question, when we release a new version of software we issue new documents for both the Reference Manual and User's guide. (we don't publish addendums). The printed copies of these documents will not be available until after the official release of X8 and will be on backorder until March, 2016.
