This illustration of Option 3 is in the Farmhouse style, and is rendered using the Watercolor with Line Drawing Rendering Technique. We kept the look simple, like a traditional farmhouse, with white board and batten siding, white trim, and a standing seam roof. A combination shed and gable dormer adds livable attic space upstairs without overpowering the front elevation of the house. A small shed dormer (not shown) on the back creates headroom for additional living space. Using the automatic roof tools with specifications like 2nd pitch, gable wall definitions, and the Attic room type, the software was able to generate these roofs for us. We just adjusted a few overhand distances to polish it off.

The foyer space shares a wall with one of the bedroom spaces. For this option, the first floor plate height was lifted to 9', allowing possible room for transom windows. We set up the default window and door trim to include a custom lintel molding from the WindsorONE catalog, and also used matching base molding to create a consistent look.

These green walls begged for green hand glazed tiles behind the range. To create them, we used the custom material maker we've shared with our ChiefTalk friends. This tool offers an option to generate your own custom materials, complete with normal maps, that you can import and paint onto your own designs.

A traditional craftsman house, featuring shingled gables, lap siding, and a stone facade is not lacking in trim details. Not too fancy, the weighted lintels, exposed rafter tails, and horizontal trim separating the finishes are all typical exterior details for this style. We used the pony wall tool, molding polylines, automatic roof framing, and elements from the library browser to assemble the pieces into a cohesive design.

A craftsman interior is never shy on natural wood products. We didn't disappoint in this example. To add some variety to the project's floor plans, we also used the Reverse Plan tool in Chief Architect to automatically create a mirrored version of the layout. All of the dimensions are the same, but the effect is a quite striking way to offer a different perspective on a familiar design. Try it and see if your audience notices the trick.

Along with generating floor plans and decorating them, we provided video walkthroughs of the designs. You can tour this space via the walk through video that has been shared on Paradise Rises Facebook page.

This bathroom is upstairs, tucked into a dormer. You can see the adjacent roofs in the mirror reflections. Reflections like these can be controlled in the Material Properties, and displayed using camera specifications. PBR views like this one do a good job representing reflections in mirrors, and also reflections on shiny surfaces like counters, porcelain, and even metal. Other benefits of this rendering technique are high quality shadows and lighting, all combined with real-time rendering. This means you can navigation your scenes in front of a client or home owner and it will look as good from each angle.

Bathrooms often look pretty similar; white fixtures, predictable layout. Adding a few details can make them memorable. Here, style-inspired accessories and colors play a role, and a full length shower niche to serve as a shelf is different from what you would normally expect to see. Niches like these are just another tool available in Chief Architect's interface. They offer quite a lot of flexibility for customization.

It would be fun to have a space for board games, crafting, or meditation in the loft area where one could quietly look over the rest of this peaceful living space.

Inside the cottage style, we used PBR views to bring the kitchen to life. Soft teals, blues, and whitewashed wood, paired with glass cabinets and quaint accessories make this kitchen ready for baking and the homey smells of bread and cookies. A simple ladder to the loft can be seen behind the island.

To create a sweet and inviting cottage roof, we used Chief's automatic roof tools to generate a hip roof over the house. Over the loft, we created a Half-Hip Roof (not shown), to make more head room and wall space for a window. We defined shutters for the window defaults, and specified decorative newel columns for the default railings on the porch. We dug through the historic colors offered in the downloadable Sherwin Williams and Benjamin Moore catalogs to help us choose appropriate colors for many of the home styles.

From the doorway of the front bedroom there is easy bathroom access and even space for a built-in bookcase in the hall between. To create the interesting shadowing effect in renderings like these, we ensure that a Sun Angle is defined, and check our Lighting Sets for different light sources.

Bead board wainscotting, custom cabinets with whitewashed wood, and coordinating tile keep cottage alive in this bathroom.

We took a very modern approach for this cabin and filled the interior with mid-century modern elements and clean white finishes. A home owner building this design as part of the Paradise Rises project could take a more rustic direction, or even very neutral casual inspiration would work well in the space. Exposed woodwork on the stairs could be expanded to include exposed beams over the living area. These interior design modifications would be easy to play with using Chief Architect's Home Designer Software product line; a desktop software package developed especially for DIY home projects.

The living room offers a peek to the upstairs living area via the stairway. The glass panel railings and open concept design create a mechanism for the big windows on the first floor and the high shed windows on the 2nd floor to collaborate on the sharing of light and air between floors.

In this iteration, we decorated the Flex Room as a Dining Area.

The upstairs bedrooms have high vaulted ceilings and shed dormers to make room, allowing the big windows to invite lots of light.
