  1. there are videos on the CA web site and probably on other sites as well eg www.chieftutor.com
  2. the best way would be to make your own mastertemplate by opening each rtemplate and exporting all the materials and wall defs etc and importing into your new master template.
  3. solved the problem I had not noticed that the joist material was set to concrete. CA will not construct concrete floor joists, as soon as I changed the material to fir framing they appeared.
  4. has something changed ? I tried to manually place a floor joist for a first floor but each time it would only draw ceiling joists. I dont recall having any problems in previous versions. as a fix I would accept the ceiling joist then change it to floor joist layer and manually adjust the height. I also had a similar problem the other week with a single story timber framed floor. This was usually simple to place manually
  5. what do people expect from a hundred buck program??
  6. Liz My guess is a video card issue, especially with the black screen when scrolling. What card are you using??
  7. I get that if I am just lurking. It seems to think you were not logged in.
  8. Scott good idea, even tho its a few more clicks.
  9. placing a text block over the dimension text is the only way. If you want to keep the number and add text before or after you can do this in the dim DBX.
  10. CA check Joey's post it seems to show pretty much what the plan checkers are requiring now. Stairs nee to be fixed NOW!
  11. Peter check your acrobat defaults, page size etc. I am assuming that your CA layout page size is correct.
  12. read Bills comments at post #4 As a computer gets older more and more crap builds up, this slows your computer down. Also whith each update of CA it can do more so has to do more calculations internally for some operations, I see the donut ocassionaly also but my computer was new fo I thinkk X3. I will have to replace in 6mnths.
  13. what is your selected default printer in windows? I am not having that type of issue.
  14. Tommy thats an access to website denial for some stupid reason. It has agreed that you sent it the right stuff but it is still telling you to "bugger off". Suggest you try again I have seen this before.
  15. Perry Tried a front elev, all fine with labels off, turned on labels and got a freeze up had to hit f12. and same thing when turning off labels. however after hitting f12 everything worked fine. I suspect some high graphics requirement in this plan as my card is toward the low end due to machine to be replaced in 6 months.
  16. I also have problems printing to PDF using Foxit and some others, using the inbuilt rpint to Pdf works but the files are humongous. Am in the process of trying to find a PDF printer that works every time as Support could not reproduce the problem.
  17. Not sure which choice to select so haven't selected any. I use cad lines and boxes in a seperate plan file for each detail then send to layout as required. The main ones eg slab footing detail is already sent to my default layout.
  18. David Your graphics card has a rating of 998 where as my old card I am using is 3025 (its due for replacement shortly). That would explain the slowness, particulalry with win8.1. As we upgrade the software it puts additional stress and requirements on our hardware which quickly makes the hardware obsolete.
  19. I think the sinks are on internal fixtures layer for me, havent got CA going to check.
  20. you would have to use cad lines for one or the other, CA doesnt let you have 2 walls in the same location. I have a seperate plan file for the original which shows the demo walls and then a second plan file for the new conditionshowing existing and new walls.
  21. By now we should be able to specify trusses and they build automatically to our defaults. CA why is this not the case it has been asked for for several versions now.
  22. If you are just using them as a "printer driver" most of the free ones seem to be Ok. you need to try a few and get one where you can change the resolution to enable smaller file sizes. I currently have Cute, Primo, PDF995 to play with. I use Foxit phantom for preparing written con docs but it has an incompatibility with CA X6. CA has its own print to PDF built in but I am yet to expirement with that as it used to create huge files, hopefully that has been fixed in latest release.
  23. Had a quick look at the plan, don't seem to see a slow down. Not sure what you are getting. On the side deck I am getting a warning that the joists and planking are the same direction, dont seem to be able to change plank direction for some reason.
