  1. I've had both of them and decided to go with Chief( easier learning curve). Every program has its dragon's, so none are perfect, it just seems Chief has less of them. It's been many years since I really used those other programs, but I'm happy with what Chief gives me, at this point in time.
  2. Also some macro's need the Arrow to work, like square footage of a p-line. The stair data also needs an arrow attached to the stairs to work
  3. I think if there is nothing on that page it won't print.
  4. The best way for me was to just start drawing and learn as you go. I took a couple of classes and that's all it took. Of course I'm still learning every day. Just learn what you need at first, the other will always be there to learn. Self-employed and had no time to learn, just get in there and go.
  5. if it's blocked, posts won't show, un-block it, if so.
  6. Scott, that's it , it just isn't correct, if you have a raised hearth it would have to be set at 24" or more thick, not correct and wrong. Fireplaces just haven't worked correctly ever. Also if you want a full height face , there is no adjustment for that. Also in just about every case, I want the face wider that the fireplace, can't do. This all takes extra time to do when it doesn't have to. P-solids is the only answer and I do this on every plan b/c all of the older homes I remodel have them, of course any new fireplaces are metal, sometimes I will have a custom masonry that requires lots of brick. The new "Wall material region" really helps with that.
  7. I disagree, when you drag the fireplace down the firebox goes down with it so the interior view will show the firebox in the ground. I'm talking about how Chief handles it not how we build it. The way chief does it it's 8" above the terrain.
  8. I also wouldn't know why but What the h*ll. Just make sure you use a copy of your template layout and not the original.
  9. I just use 1 template layout all setup for 2 stories and delete pages as I go along with the drawings b/c I'm always fixing little things in the layout template. Chief makes it very easy to delete pages now. All pages automatically update their page numbers also.
  10. I think Doug is probably correct in this case the 540 is pretty old. I would try to turn off shadows and turn them on only when you need them to send to the layout
  11. Prior to starting with Chief, I had hundreds of already drawn details that transferred into chief very well, a few lineweight adjustments and done.
  12. All these years and that fireplace has always been wrong the brick should extend below the terrain surface. I now have to make 2 of them one on top of the other or just use s p-solid instead of a foundation. I guess it will go the way of the pocket door and never get fixed.
  13. Chief gives us most of the anno-sets I use but, of course I have many more layersets for different things like reference sets, I have 8 extra reference sets

Sometimes I use the Country field for lot and tract info. or any other note I need.
  15. Do you have the latest version. ? Also a corrupt symbol could do it. Is your video card drivers up to date? Anything running in the background will use resources. ??? Lot of round railing could also do it.
  16. As far as the # of anno-sets, I have added about 4 to what was already given us and that's all I use. Speaking of drawing in color, that's what I also do but you have to beware of the color you use b/c in grayscale some colors will print too light so you need to darken every color you use to get it correctly in the plan. Then it will pop for you.
  17. Right click on any toolbar and check it again
  18. To me it looks like the front corners don't meet in the corners, adjust the center soffit so that it meets with the right soffit right in the front corner and they will join correctly.
  19. Yes, that's b/c slabs need the walls to create a room on the foundation level, strange but true, you can also add room labels to foundation rooms.
  20. Yep it was in the room settings some were not marked monoslabs and your welcome, I actually enjoy doing these videos but rarely have the time b/c work is piling up very fast, I'm just looking for ways to do it faster always.
  21. You must have at least a 4" stem wall with slabs.
  22. Here is a video explaining what I did. http://screencast.com/t/2OTI9ACk
  23. ok I'll do a short video fixing it. the room DBX should match the foundation DBX. Not sure what's happing on your end.
