If I don't use group similar objects, the schedule just gets too big to fit all the schedules on a page b/c I really want to use the 2d drawings of windows and doors. I know I can resize that column, then it gets too small to see what it is.

Show it in a detail ,and let Chief just be a representation of what you are building. For me it's not worth the extra time to manually install the bars in the slab and footings. The DBX for those things are just for the materials list at this time.

A lot of times I see multiple entries in the Schedules ,so I then have to open each schedule and uncheck, then check "group similar objects" to fix, not updating as it should most of the time.

Typically on an addition or new structure, the base includes the door openings so you can cut to fit without having lots of pieces.

Typical text for me is set at 4, I can get in more info.

Typical Details with notes...whats the strategy?
DRAWZILLA replied to Clemsongrad's topic in General Q & A
Chief comes with a large amount of cad details which you can modify to fit your local needs. The reason there aren't standard details and notes for everybody is because we all use different details for our locality. You kind of have to develop your own. I have thousands only b/c I have been doing this for 40 years and keep every one for future use. -
Ray, was that in the "HD" versions?

Chief has one on one training. -
I think the H.D. version only allows you to print one page at a time.

Yes Joe gets the prize for most offended ,and we still aren't sure if he is still alive ,or it's just his Macro's talking. -
Buy the "Premier" version and you can have any sheet size you want. For me Chief was very easy to learn (took two classes),but I didn't come from an Acad background. how large is pretty large. I've done a lot of projects since 2005 in Chief, never had one that Chief couldn't handle. I'm starting a 12,000 s.f. custom home next week and sure Chief won't let me down, but the answer is "what's in it" that counts.

I guess it depends on who says it. come on the word is just funny, and I have never heard it as serious. -
What version, and what problem are you having?

I use to be a licensed builder but always loved drawing better, building was too much trouble for me, and I have been drawing since the 1070's, that's what I learned in college.

Kelly, lighten up , everybody is a knucklehead even you and I, Doesn't bother me at all, and kinda fun. Everybody needs to laugh once in a while. That's why I come here. It breaks up my day of sitting in this big man chair thinking intensely all day long. Scott is a breath of fresh air, I really need that fresh air , or my room might just blow up someday. -
I use keynotes for separate floors, so at least they are on the same page and someone doesn't have to go searching for them. Same thing for Schedule's, same page

Install X8, you will love it. Great time saver for me

I also see this.

Make sure you get enough money for that one.

Just buy the best processor and video card you can afford.

For actual printing to a plotter ,I use 650 to PDF. Haven't had any complaints. I use Adobe Acrobat, for smaller file size.

Lew, you started that project so long ago, your plans probably need to be in a museum. One question have you been updating those plans with every new version ,or keeping it in 9.5 or whatever you started with . I would hate to go back, in fact I'm not sure I could do it.
