Tony-209 Posted January 3 Share Posted January 3 Hey Guys, I am a Revit user, and to draw a line we just click the start and click at the end, but CA does not have this option that I can see, I am struggling with the drag option, especially with dimension and linework, when zoomed in and the whole line you are drawing is not in the screen, you have to let go, move the screen and start again, it just seem too fiddly to me? Thanks in advance Hey Neighbor! If you have your dimensions defaults setup really well it should be no issue to bring a dimension string through while zoomed. You could take a look at your reach settings there as well as some other settings. Yes click and drag..I would HIGHLY recommend picking up the spacemouse pro wireless, as this no longer becomes an issue...thats a left hand mouse to go along with your right hand mouse and makes navigating in 3d and 2d a breeze. BTW you could draw a continuous line and this would give you a point to point placement on everything past the initial line segment. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Instead of using the Edit menu, press the Alt key on the keyboard. Or, simply click with the right mouse button. With the right-click method you need to click-drag the first segment before clicking points for subsequent segments. BTW, the right-click method also works when creating walls. It's called Continuous Draw Mode. Since I use Macs and do not have the Alt key, I assigned hotkeys to toggle into Alt mode. 1 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Thanks in advance Hey Tony, It sounds like what you are referring to is click-drag-release vs. click-drag-click To get the desired click-drag-click functionality, here's what I personally do: I simply click to start the operation, temporarily activate the Zoom tool (which suspends the operation), release the mouse button, pan or zoom as desired and then click again to finish. So assuming you don't change the Default Hotkey assignment, the whole operation to draw a line looks like this: L to activate the Line tool Click and hold to start line at desired point Shift+Z Release mouse key Pan/Zoom/Drag as desired Click to finsih Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Rich_Winsor Posted February 17 Share Posted February 17 Ok, ok, enough already. Just wanted to do one more take on ‘drag style’. This is my updated homage to Rebel Without a Cause. Sometimes I wonder if you people realize the amount of effort that goes into creating these one off Chief images. To find a model to use for this scene I found it necessary to meticulously cull through literally hundreds of images of scantily clad, attractive young ladies waving checkered flags to find one in an appropriate pose and with a background I could easily make transparent. For someone who ostensibly jumped out of the wrong end of a perfectly good airplane I can see where you might be confused. I’ve done my due diligence on this one. The episode I was paying homage to wasn’t technically a ‘drag race’ but rather in the vernacular of the day it was a ‘chickie run’. The two participants speed toward what could ultimately be their demise and the first one to bail out is the chicken. I took some liberties in my updated version but basically the young lady starts the participants while facing them and then turns and runs up the road as they blow by her. Here is the scene from filming the original: The view I captured is obviously from the other direction and a second or two before their image. (As a side note if you ever find yourself in a chickie run I would strongly advise you not to wear a jacket with loops on the cuffs, but I digress) I was using some powerful design elements like the one point perspective to draw you into the center of the image where the young lady is vignetted by the plumes of smoke. All of this is a distraction/ misdirection if you will, so you won’t realize the major flaw of the image in that she isn’t casting a shadow. What gives us the right to take such liberties? TMI?
