  1. I'd say no. My "toy" Hp Spectre (less than half the price with better CPU) manages X10 but sluggish compared to how it handles X9. I've used laptops exclusively for a decade now and posted enough on them elsewhere in the forum.
  2. I have variables on many projects, usually only 4 but I have to do this each time. For variables I have one layout with pages linked to each plan option- w/ plan view, primary elevations, a perspective or two. Then a complete layout linked to plan "A", save as then link to plan "B" etc. . All plans have the same cameras & elevations though positions may have changed- IOW all from same template or Save as depending on your preferred method. Work with client in multi-plan layout first, allows opening any plan as needed (affords more cameras than shown in layout). Once decisions are made, close that layout, open layout for selected plan, save as Final (or whatever you use), make changes to plan as needed; when possible copy paste/edit area from secondary plan(s) to selected. Not perfect, but not that bad either.
  3. I gave up 2020 some years ago, regularly get comments from contractors like- nobody gives us drawings as good as yours. Don't know what you are doing. You have far more control over everything in Chief than in 2020 (like those crowded dimensions). Post a plan, list the software version you are using, check the help, ref manual, and videos to understand settings. IF the problem is NOT font, text size, or color check the DPI settings when you print. These are not my standard, just set this up as an example - changed label font, didn't bother to change dimension settings but you can match everything you need to.
  4. FWIW- this is a staple in my toolbox. Will open DAE files that SU refuses, then export as SU. Use it to deconstruct Chief Symbols, import and export/convert a large number of formats. I eventually got the plugin for 3D pdfs which occasionally are helpful. I end up using it at least a dozen times a year which saves the cost compared to the time searching for something that may or may not work or exist. My only complaint is that it uses Redsdk drivers it uses are always behind the real world.
  5. I also use PDFs. I use Bluebeam PDF Revu on my end which is better at tracking markups than any of the freebies. They also have a free viewer which clients can use but Adobe Reader works fine for most. For more advanced or complicated markups Bluebeam comes with a thing called "Studio" , a cloud service, that allows far more complete markup tools. I don't offer it to the average consumer client, just pros or tech savvy/demanding consumers. (They likely use the BB iPad app instead) I also use an online service. Used Basecamp for well over a decade, now I use Freedcamp. Good way to keep everything documented, easy to locate, suits multiple users on a project better (builder, ID, Architect, Client, MIL, cousin...)
  6. Latest version of Turbocad Deluxe ($150) will do it. Mine is a couple of yrs old and won't (pro would). I upgrade every few years when I need newest dwg (not today). Handy to have.
  7. I'm getting mixed results. IF I have the power settings at balanced (not performance) I get an SEH error on opening a file. With performance settings, files open (slow), existing PBR opens and no more pixels. Did not yet try a NEW PBR. I can move the camera BUT if I cut into a wall by accident get an SEH error and the view goes south until file is closed and reopened. Also have the JPEG export issue discussed elsewhere. Will be documenting and sending in as soon as I catch up from business trip to Mass.
  8. The program used to default to creating a new layerset every time you sent a view to layout (ending up with a mess of inscrutable layerset #'s) It no longer defaults to that and you have more control. You need to have a plan view or layerset associated with different plan views. Currently you sent views are all using the same settings. Go to your layout, select a view to highlight it, press the F1 key. When the Help opens click the link " Layout Box Specification Dialog." to see how it all works.
  9. Just noticed that I was signed in on the secondary machine's account above which would make it harder to find the post in tips. Sorry about that.
  10. Just tested mine, can export at standard res, can increase DPI, cannot increase image size-goes black, cannot export PNG burns out.
  11. I haven't tried on a walk through but have had some success placing "billboards" outskirts the windows and turning off the backdrop. Of course no backdrop works.
  12. Same here. I have annotation sets put together just to do assorted interior dimension both plan and elevation sets. Creating them takes some thought but work well, very fast.
  13. It has been fixed at least on mine. Still not as fast as X9 and nothing like my primary system but never expected that.
  14. There are known issues with X10 and Intel cards, more the newer ones. In any case they are working on it. In some cases using an older driver has helped. General recommendation is nVidia Gaming cards (GTX not Quadro) just the best you can afford.
  15. I'm a KD, dropped support for 2020 at V9, have not rarely used it since CA X7. I posted a quick video for pricing cabinets from CA into an online ordering system. For one brand I have that does not have online ordering I have a spreadsheet template I use and copy paste from the schedule into that. I use PDF catalogs (add my own bookmarks in Bluebeam) to look up pricing. Way back when I'd used a CA schedule to copy paste into an item list in 2020 Cheryl, also on this board, is a KD workingat HD. She redoes her jobs in Chief and then brings images and such back to work-even though she's working in 2020. She's recently posted that's she's become the leading sales in the REGION and claims it's because of Chief. For myself I've found that-Chief helps sell jobs, produces far better drawings=happier installers/contractors=more referrals=mo-money; has gotten me a better class of projects. There is a learning curve but far less frustrating than the things that happen with 2020 IMO.
  16. Intel just released a new driver-I'll try that over the weekend, will let you know. The difficult we do right away, the impossible takes a little longer-they'll get it.
  17. Updated the plan and images- much simpler to work with now.
  18. There is a handheld in the core catalog with a hose, another in the bonus -bathroom accessorie. If you need just the hose then place in a blank plan and use delete surface tool until you have just the hose then convert to a symbol. Alternative is to work from a polyline, get the shape you want, convert to a molding polyline, change the molding to a circle (you have to make this too and add to library) then convert to a symbol. Not exactly beginners work but then again all good exercises you can use in the future. Check the referance manual, help and videos -also some videos by Alaskan Son on the forum. Oh and it's a good idea to fill out your signature- include version of software and info about your computer system. Helps when you need help.
  19. Here are some I did a while back- one has a keystone. I made that a millwork symbol and then used it in the treatments tab, millwork applied above casing (some stuff is below too) Made up window, placed in library and used replace from all the same. I only had a few sizes, only one with the keystone so was very quick. Here's a plan with some of the windows in it, the symbols are placed on the floor. They are pretty quick to make but you can open the symbols to get an idea of stretch and origin offset. Two images from this plan file and one from the original. Just remembered that they had a weird wall definition for the facade so the offsets may not be correct. When working it out I just kept adjusting the symbol in the library and dragging it onto a window till it was correct. Then added that to the library. Assorted lintel windows.plan
  20. Hope reported it. For anyone who is about to send this in they asked me for the log and system info files. Instructions to get the log file and the System Information file Chief is already working on it but I would guess that more information might help.
  21. Someone asked about this so just to be clear, total cost to you from me is $1900. I pay the transfer fee to Chief, not you. Then if you want support you pay $495 to Chief for that.
  22. No it wouldn't, more likely reduce my credibility The HP serves the primary purpose I intended-2 in1, light, great battery life, runs X9 fine. It would be nice to fully use X10 on it, I believe that will happen eventually. I'm not using PBR live with clients even on the Sager since it's too erratic. So the HP gets used on the couch to make symbols and goes to meetings when I don't need (or want) to make any live changes. It's been a good tool promoting the drafting end of things as a tablet.
  23. 21.20.16.4590 which is in the zip file 154514.4590. Actually I bounce it back and forth. The old driver won't work with the Microsoft Wireless Display Adapter (which I need to watch Golf while working Thanks for the suggestion about the machine but I'll be holding out, I bench a bit better than those and the CFO is still pissed at me for getting the HP. I'm currently lobbying for another monitor and not winning.
  24. I use that most often when close, which is where a lot of my work is. Just checked it on a full perspective overview with camera 60 feet away and it works there as well. I suspect it has to do with mouse settings/brand or something. I use a logitech M570 trackball, scrolling set to 3 lines with "enable smooth scrolling checked" Have a hunch that it may be the last one.
