I think you can also set the drywall layer to "air gap" Lew

Understanding Annosets, Defaults & Layersets
lbuttery replied to Joe_Carrick's topic in General Q & A
Joe: nice summary definitely not a "one size fits all" sorta like the 6 blind men trying to describe an elephant .... each has a different persepective some users can go minimal and basically use Chief's OOB anno-sets create as many layersets as needed and then add to chief's anno-sets as needed many layersets to "few" anno-sets others need extensive "systems" where they have numerous layersets and probably a one-to-one matching anno-set Lew -
Amy: this forum has a "seeking services" section Lew

This Has Always Driven Me Nuts Re: Dimensioning 45 Degree Angles
lbuttery replied to Steve-C's topic in General Q & A
Steve: I agree with the fractions just causing confusion I measure to 1/16 for as-builts - per my Disto Plus I model to 1/16 for as-builts I'll allow up to a 2" discrepancy - but keep notes as to the measured dim when doing new build - I try to get rid of fractions by tweaking the plans I'll accept a few fractions if the tweaks won't eliminate them at time of printing I round/display to 1/2" or 1" depending on the project needs at time of printing I round/display to 1/2" or 1" depending on the project needs if you do the rounding too early it can lead to discrepancies maybe even "errors" Lew -

Any changes that they make to layers that they aren't supposed to will simply be discarded Joe: thanks, got it.... Lew

Joe: interesting about "locking layers" haven't tested the concept for awhile but many versions ago I found that Chief would ignore the locks and make changes IOW I would give Chief a task and in doing that task Chief would make changes that I wasn't expecting in particular, moving walls around - hence my continuous plea for wall locks no, we don't need to get into a debate about wall locks just expressing a concern that while layer locks can prevent a user from making changes Chief is not restricted by those locks secondly, can't the other user unlock those layers if they want to ??? just trying to understand ??? if your people have good discipline In my experience in offices I wouldn't count on this a friend just did a presentation at his office on how to properly fill out a form he gave the presentation because way too many people were making way to may mistakes one day later and two people and two mistakes .... If I go to an architect and ask for these drawings, telling him what they are for, and the county does not accept the drawings, he would have to come up with new drawings (then again it's his/her job to know the technical specs for drawing for this purpose so he/she is not very likely to produce drawings that can't be used) Hmmm, maybe yes - maybe no If the architect "screws-up" then yes otherwise, iterations are part of the design process and the architect or designer would expect to be paid for each iteration Lew

Scott: nope, but also can't think of a reason to automatically do it either Alaska is having the problem because he is new and unaware that floorA can't have rooms just as he would be unaware to "always" add another floor adding an "extra" floor is counter-intuitive when the real house will only have two floors and an "attic" I have suggested many times that CA should "fix" Chief to allow rooms on floorA that would be "user-friendly".... Lew
-
probably best to contact CA's tech support they do have users with Networks it can work - there can be issues there was a recent thread about this with a reply from Doug or Dan from CA Lew
-
Scott: as you say "not required" so why add a floor "always" why not just do it when you need it for rooms etc seems "overkill" Lew
-
I agree that almost no one will volunteer to do this for free unless they are a student and want a crack at a project you should plan on paying a fee for drawings regardless if they are accepted or not acceptance is your problem not the designer's I did my first drawings AND permit set for free hoping the builder would give us more projects we did get a few more small ones but not the big sub-divisions that never panned out because the economy collapsed in 2008 never again would I do something for free that takes more than 30 minutes Lew

Alaska: hi, welcome Floor A can't have rooms you have to have a 2nd floor so build a new floor and select "blank..." option then place walls as needed on floor2 for the garage only turn on the reference display and you will see the floor1 walls in red for a guide then use the align walls tool to ensure they are in sync Lew
