Yes, the MAC version is NOT able to import .SKP files Lew
-
Kird: not sure - just tossing out ideas maybe Accutrans can do the conversion ? maybe MAC users are SOL ? I believe Sketchup can run on MAC Lew
-
maybe use the free version of Sketchup to save as .DWG or .DXF or .3DS ??? Lew

Chief can have 30 floors in one plan the conflict comes in trying to show two walls/doors/windows occupying the same space such as existing versus new Chief model as essentially created in 3D and then the 2D docs are generally generated from the 3D 2D can also be created manually in 2D cad I find it best to create multiple buildings in separate plans then create symbols of those buildings then place the symbols in a master site plan however, multiple buildings can be in one plan - if desired Lew

close the plan then zip it before attaching to a post to zip right click the file select send to give the file a name and save to your hard drive Lew -
Gary: so what's wrong with asking questions on the forum ??? isn't that what the forum is for ??? someone may have had experience doing inter-operability successful or not Lew
-
if you have the demo version look under MENU - FILE - EXPORT and MENU - FILE - IMPORT I think there is some info lost regardless of format used most CAD software is not setup to play well in the sandbox with each other unless they use BIM file formats true BIM apps have better inter-operability but even then not sure it is 100% Lew

Tommy: yep, your/Wendy method is better Lew

I don't think so many times asked for - but ??? one trick is to send b/w to keep it live and scaled then make a color .jpg and import on same page then using a corner handle for the .jpg size it over the b/w view Lew

Chad: see this thread for doing "section cropping" https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/index.php?/topic/1834-clip-to-sides-independence/#entry14096 works in X6 - not in X5 Lew
-
See the attached - from the help manual in my earlier post I mentioned X6 allows for cropping the cross-section by using the move handles I should have added - "of the cross-section camera" if the "clip to sides" setting has been chosen Lew CHIEF_CROSS_SECTION.pdf

3 Questions About Ca Licensing, Ssa And A Viewer
lbuttery replied to 4hotshoez's topic in General Q & A
1. yes, with software license you just activate on desired PC and license is deactivated on other PC you can install Chief on as many PC's/MAC's as needed 2. it is an optional Membership with an annual fee you get access to CA's videos, training and any upgrades while SSA is active I think updates are available to anyone - even without SSA but not sure ??? 3. yes, there is a free client viewer - download it and check it out if you use it be prepared to train and offer support sending PDF's is the preferred method of sharing Lew -
one consideration with "view to cad" is that the view is no longer "live" if anything changes then it needs to be re-done including all the manual edits Lew
-
also, X6 allows for cropping the cross-section by using the move handles Lew

the macro for living area RANDOMLY chooses which building area to display Graeme: thanks another reason to place each building in a separate plan and then make symbols to place in the master site plan Lew

Frustrated With Chief ....may Be Going To Softplan

someone could hack the system and find a way to up the time allotted Frederick: they can do the same with the software or hardware lock Lew -
Frustrated With Chief ....may Be Going To Softplan
lbuttery replied to joedesign30's topic in General Q & A
I've been advocating for a metered system pay for 8 hrs on the laptop and then when it declines enough just pay for more time and no need for hardware locks or internet connections until more time is needed Lew -

Understanding Annosets, Defaults & Layersets
lbuttery replied to Joe_Carrick's topic in General Q & A
Larry: sorry, I didn't mean to suggest that you change your workflow that's why I added or 1:1 is "convenient" for you I was just trying to clarify for any reading these posts now or in the future that 1:1 is not "required" Yet, I am also trying to understand why those who do have 1:1 are doing so as maybe it is "the way to go" as I understand it, anno-sets could disappear and CD's could still be created as they were prior to X3 anno-sets just save clicks as Doug pointed out in his last post layersets are "king" and anno-sets add "convenience" maybe 1:1 is the most convenient way ... Frustrated With Chief ....may Be Going To Softplan
lbuttery replied to joedesign30's topic in General Q & A
When you start up the program it goes to the vendor site and checks for an unused license. Frederick: ahhh, but an internet connection is required what if the internet is not available not all clients have internet or are willing to share it what if you are on a boat or a cabin at the lake, etc etc etc Lew -
Understanding Annosets, Defaults & Layersets
lbuttery replied to Joe_Carrick's topic in General Q & A
Larry: that can be done via a layerset no need for a new anno-set unless the presentation defaults change or 1:1 is "convenient" for you Lew -
Kevin: to get more than guesses you should post the plan Lew
-
Teigha Timmy: no clue what this stands for ??? you'll probably need to discuss with tech support Lew
