Can you delete older versions once you upgrade
lbuttery replied to PinnacleChief's topic in General Q & A
moving X9 and X10 to a zip drive won't work Chief has to be installed on a PC to work you can move the libraries and your plan files etc but the software install has to remain on the PC older plans can always be opened and edited by a newer version (some caveats to this for really old versions) so if you don't work with clients that have older versions of Chief then you don't need to keep X9 or X10 installed at all We worked with clients who had Chief so we kept our older versions installed David Potter has every version ever made installed - we kept the two prior versions plus the current your choice Lew -
Johnny: we had great success being "just the designers" while the trades reviewed and stamped their portions of the plans and the engineers or architectes reviewed and stamped the portions they needed to sometimes we created the cad details for them to review other times they created them as a "sketch" - we then did them up in chief and sent back for final review and stamp it is very possible to find vendors, architects, engineers that are willing to play their part in the project without having to "do it all" Lew

If you don't specify it, the builder could use his own imagination this would be a concern for a homeowner that is creating plans to then have builders bid on if the homeowner has already selected a builder then its not an issue we did work for multiple builders in the DC Metro area for remodels and new homes our permit sets were aimed at providing the info the permit office needed to grant the permit the builders knew what they were doing and didn't need to be told how to do their job they submitted the plans with their signature/stamp - it was their responsibility to do it right we had a 100% success rate in having the plans accepted by the plan authorities the first time Lew

since I worked in the DC metro area that covered DC, MD, VA and over a dozen counties within I always went to the local permit office website and called them to determine what they needed in the way a permit set basically never submit more than they need the more you submit - the more they have to review - the more chances for "rejection" I'm proud to say that we had a 100% acceptance rate anno-sets were introduced with X4 everything that anno-sets can do we did without them prior to that but they are a convenience - a great convenience use the anno-sets provided by CA then as you get comfortable create others as needed some users are masters of anno-sets and have 36+ sets others have less than 10 X10 introduced plansets and again we did everything without them prior but they are another great convenience so try to learn how to use them soonest also start simple and learn as needed Lew

Chief sales doesn't carry old dongles you will hope that someone is willing do donate theirs the procedure is for the donor to verify that the requester has a valid license then to charge just for shipping as it is illegal to sell old licenses that have been upgraded I have already donated my X1 dongle another choice is to find a valid copy of X1 on Ebay another choice is to upgrade if you can't upgrade all the way to X11 - at least get X4 or later as X3 has a horrible library system and X4 introduced anno-sets CA also has a rent-to-own option that may be affordable Lew

over a decade ago I asked for counts so that we could ensure that we had "everything" and for bulk downloads so we didn't have to download one-by-one and that we could have a folder structure exactly like they do on CA's website and probably a few other suggestions to my our library life a little nicer so far ..... yes, play with the camera options there is a "dollhouse" view - I don't remember the way they name the camera but its there you should explore them all anyways there should be a framing view also these views are in Chief Premier and from memory I believe they are in HD PRO also this forum is mainly for Chief Premier users and there is the Hometalk forum for HD users however, since HD PRO has many of the manual tools that Chief Premier has you can benefit from following this forum also just remember that not everything mentioned here is available in PRO Lew

Best Way To Raise/Lower Entire 2 Story Building?
lbuttery replied to HumbleChief's topic in General Q & A
the experts may be able to have two houses in the same plan on terrain that varies I find it easier to have a separate plan for each building and then a master plan with the terrain etc make a symbol of each building and then place the symbol in the master plan then manipulate the symbol as needed to place on the terrain at the height(s) needed this allows for making edits to roof and other features of building A without affecting building B Lew -

Is Buying A Different Program The Best Way To Draw Dormers?
lbuttery replied to EconBlueprints's topic in General Q & A
Mick: I meant using "save as" that way you get to specify the file name and location I click on a prior file in the windows explorer dbx and change the date/time this way I am creating a string of backups on my own doing a "save" just keep overwriting the same file - then if there is a crash it may get corrupted Lew
