  1. BTW: I have Sketchup PRO 2014 for sale for $400 see this thread: https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/index.php?/topic/1724-sketchup-pro-2014-license-for-sale/ Lew
  2. HA Premier ? did you mean HD PRO ? or Chief Premier ? HD PRO sells for $495 and Sketchup Pro sells for $590 Chief Premier sells for $2395 so hugh difference in capabilities download the free Sketchup and the free demo's for HD PRO and Chief Premier and try them out probably best to discuss your needs with CA's customer service on Monday they can advise if HD PRO or Chief Premier would better suit your needs while Chief Premier can seem expensive at $2395 for a one-time homeowner it can be well worth the cost in playing the "what-if" game for my sister's addition we went with 17 variations of design concerning size of the room and placement of stairs and laundry architect fees can get VERY expensive we sent her final specs with 2D and 3D specs and the engineer creating the CD's made 14 mistakes while there may be some Architects that use Sketchup as their primary design tool I suspect it is way less than those using Chief Premier probably even fewer using HD PRO I have suggested to CA many, many times that PRO is mis-named and should be called Master or Deluxe and it mis-leads buyers into thinking it is for Professional's and with its limits it sorta doesn't really fit their needs except for very small if you do go with HD PRO then decide to upgrade to Chief Premier then the cost is applied to the upgrade also after your project is done you can sell Chief Premier (or HD PRO) and expect to recover approx. 70-80% of the cost if the license is still current with current SSA option if you do chose an architect that uses Chief Premier once they edit the plan HD PRO may or may not be able to edit any sections that use features that HD PRO doesn't have the HD PRO and Chief Premier versions also need to be based on the same platform if one is newer then the older can't open the newer plan Lew
  3. take the PDF to a print shop and have them print it if it is correct there then it is your printer or printer settings the PDF should be accurate if you have the PDF settings correct post screen captures of your PDF settings Lew
  4. It also built the chimney Greg: HMMM, I started with Chief 9.5 and Chief hasn't had the ability to create chimney's so they lost that feature ??? I have always wondered why no chimney builder and have moaned and pi$$ed about it often Lew
  5. Kbird: there are settings in the wall dbx to set the top and bottom to the default wall height no need to pull wall to reset... Lew
  6. even tho PDF is native to X6 I still use PDF995 because I use it for m any things besides Chief been using it since 2004 - see no reason to switch to something else especially if it is limited to Chief only Lew
  7. did you try manually pulling the upper wall down into the lower and see if it merged properly ? Kbird: pulling walls is not recommended should only be used when "necessary" and with understanding as to why it is "needed" pulling walls can mess up a plan real quick if not done "properly" Lew
  8. Hi: you'll probably need to post the plan to get more than guessing also, the chieftalk forum is aimed at the Chief Premier products while HD PRO users can benefit from following the forum you'll also want to join the Hometalk forum and post your query there also generally the roof info is specified in the wall DBX settings roof will generally cut off the walls at the specified room height PRO and Chief Premier do have manual roof tools and the roof planes can be adjusted as needed once roofs are built they are independent of the walls unless you have "Auto re-build" set to on Lew
  9. also checkout Dan Baumann at www.chiefexperts.com some free webinares,. others are pay he also offers one-on-one training for a fee David Potter also offers training for a fee look for one of his posts on this forum Lew
  10. no software is perfect and never will be choose the software that best meets your needs let us know after you try Softplan what you think about it just about everyone on this forum chose Chief and is "happy" with it even tho it has "flaws" Lew
  11. Andrew: using PDF is the recommended procedure for all printing many advantages including being able to email and make archives Lew
  12. I ran into this issue with ver 10 took over a plan for a client didn't even know the user had a "zillion" layersets drove me crazy till I figured out what was going on I took time to re-do all the layersets from then on I only make updates in the plan if a layout uses multiple plans I might go from layout to a plan for viewing only - but no updating at all I thought I saw that this issue was fixed but ??? Lew
  13. Bill: nice tip - looks great here's hoping that CA can add a "display contours as 3D" feature too lazy to do that "cloning" myself Lew
  14. Bob: not sure, most of the HD product line has very limited features probably best to contact CA's customer support to discuss the Chieftalk forum is aimed at users of Chief Premier titles you will find the Hometalk forum better suited to your product Lew
  15. MATERIAL - Copy.ziptry to use this one attached place it in the X6 folder on the C: drive under Program files Lew
  16. Hmmm, I just checked mine and it is a very small file - around 14 KB I don't remember what it does ??? its possible you may need to re-install Chief but If no one has a solution you should check with CA's tech support first they open 6 AM Pacific Lew
  17. Glenn: it's called being "user-friendly" http://www.sapdesignguild.org/goodies/simplification/Introduction.htm Lew, tell us all again how you were a programmer for 30+ years as that seems to make a big difference this doesn't even deserve a reply Chief should be aware of every possible thing that we want to do (even the obscure ones) and we should have it now, in this version. We shouldn't have to follow any steps - it should just happen. Wow !!! - you finally understand Did you even try out the method I described? No need, just expressing an opinion when I see an overly convoluted process that could be programmed to be simpler if it was so "clear" why did Mark have to start this thread ??? as I have said before in these "debates" I don't understand why you didn't stay with the first version of Chief that you started with it must have been "perfect" ... Lew
  18. that's so good it isn't even a work around Mark: seriously ??? I spent 30+ years as a systems analyst/programmer for major corps around the DC beltway and I would be ASHAMED to tell my client "all you have to do is follow these steps to perform that task" this is a prime example of where the KISS principle should be applied http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KISS_principle Lew
  19. Glenn: I consider "convoluted" to be "broken" ... Lew
  20. It sounds a bit convoluted here's hoping that CA "fixes" this someday Lew
  21. Glenn: yep, I forgot that - don't use schedules that much room by room would be nice also same as we do for "living area" Lew
  22. The thing is, like so many of the features in Chief, with a little creativity a myriad of useful tools can be had such as this one by adapting tools that already exist. Yep, but just like we can choose which rooms are counted in the living area it would be nice to be able to control which rooms or floors are placed on a schedule or material list Lew
  23. I suspect you will have a hard time finding one in .alb format maybe someone with ver 10 can make one ? If I remember correctly, items like that had to be made in Sketchup then saved as .DWG to be imported into chief and then saved as .alb I suspect you will be hard-pressed on your query with such an old version of chief starting with Chief X1 .skp files could be imported directly into Chief Lew
