Don't use a deck for the room type, use a balcony. Then, define the layers in the room spec dbx. to match the roof construction, then add the layers you need (above) for the platform. You'll probably want to add another floor for this. And yes, the room will still cut the roof, but the room's floor will now match the roof assembly.

Those patio patterns, they can be drawn with cad lines. (you gotta sing it)

There are tools for that, yes, but probably not a material.

@justinorwig I used to use laptops (not Mac though) and had the same issue all the time. It was really bad on my laptop with a Radeon graphics card. I made sure the next laptop had an Nvidia card and it was much better but still not good enough on larger files. I tried to justify the laptop to myself and finally had enough. I got a decent gaming PC with the best Nvidia graphics card that was available locally and I've never had an issue again. FWIW.

I believe your best option is to ensure you have a documented check-in process before any sub is authorized to begin work. That could be processed in a variety of ways.

Can you post the layout file? You could start by using the layer eyedropper tool. Hover over that box and see what layer its on. Maybe its locked. Looks like an inadvertently placed 24"x24" cad box to me. Check all the layer settings and make sure there aren't any locked layers. That box may also be on page zero.

Something to consider: depending on the parameters of your project, for as-built interior walls, it may be suitable to use a wall type that is a single layer; the thickness of the as-built wall (assumed 4.5"), with the material set to the drywall type that you're using. I'd place these as-builts on their own layer. This is a simple way to help with display control across different types of views. Again, depending on your needs, there may be no need to have a framing layer for an as-built wall.

A General Contractor who has their stuff together. Using PM software can be very helpful as the most recent docs are always available to everyone, but again, it seems that should be the GC's job, not the designer's. What's your role?

Yes. The railing from my library is fine in a new plan, but not in an existing plan. And the existing plan in question was created before X12 ,although that doesn't appear to be the issue.

In both cases, yes. I've never kept track of the issue, I've just deleted or fixed as quickly as possible and moved on. I'm not even sure I replicate the problem if I had to. I spoke too soon.

I've had the same thing happen a couple of times but with different objects from my library. When using a door from a library, the material "white" is still called 'white' but shows the texture for 'river rock'. And today, when using a deck railing from my library, the material for the newel posts was titled correctly but used the texture for Eldorado Stone / Banff Springs, which was used on some of the house walls.

I agree, they are pretty stable, but when you do have a glitch, it really sucks. My only point was that it can happen and so, heads up, its one more thing to look over before the final print. A bit more context for anyone stumbling across this: I used a note schedule in elevation view to list a specific set of code requirements for windows. Once the list is compiled, I reorganize them according to my preferred hierarchy. Occasionally, when the elevation view is closed then re-opened, that schedule will re-organize itself. This has happened on more than one file.

You'll fight this forever. My suggestions would differ from Rene's. Show Main Layer Only Make all main layer weights the same (controlled by layer in the walls definition) The only wall I give a heaver weight to is a concrete foundation wall. Make your final decision by comparing a print to the pdf.

There's a better than good chance that you're going to want to use the "open with middle rail" option so that you can see beyond the railing in elevation view...I'd use a molding or a solid to represent the glass, on its own layer of course.

Hey Gary. Are you talking about a text box, or a rich text box?

However, some schedule types aren't as sticky as others and that manual arrangement may slip away on you when you aren't looking. I've experienced this, mostly with note schedules.
