  1. FWIW, I use my own living area label and it appears in the exact same spot on every floor. That way I don't have to worry about if Chief wants to play nicely.
  2. Keep in mind that polyline solids can give you display control in plan view as well, making it simple to identify the various elevations in plan view. And their material will blend with the wall material below as long as the surfaces are flush. Perfect for elevations and 3d views. Add a floor for the parapet walls and/or low slope roof.
  3. Interestingly enough, in my region, no builder would pay for those. Around here, the framers build parallel pony walls for all floor joist types. Its one of the simplest ways to ensure all studs are aligned, all point loads from window headers, beams and girders are transferred to the fdn, and the insulation values remain the same as all other exterior walls. Also, the small studs are a great way to use up crooked lumber. And it gives the framer's laborers a simple task to do while the lead concentrates on layout.
  4. You can use a roof truss, just adjust its settings and polyline in a section view.
  5. Use (or edit) a material for railing that has its Materials List properties adjusted to "Count" and specify the width of the max. length that is available. It will then report a count; for example, if the material has a width of 72" and you have a 20' railing section, the materials list will show 4.
  6. Yeah, I edited my post after I realized it wouldn't apply. I know this isn't the popular method, but why not just place the panels in manually? Then you're in complete control and they're easy to resize. Just saying...If it takes longer to figure out how to do it using the railing dbx then why bother? Unless you're determined to figure it out. You may need to make multiple panel symbols of various widths to help control the number of panels that show up. You currently have 4...how many do you want? Copy the symbol and make a new one, bigger or smaller to see if that helps.
  7. Play with the newel spacing. Forget that...doesn't apply. I'd be using a different object for the tall posts so my railing would be independent of them.
  8. You'll still be able to stretch it, but as was mentioned above, too wide or too narrow will mess up the proportions. Otherwise, stretch away!
  9. @DianeP Original: changed to 90: baluster x.mp4
  10. You can also take the library symbol, "Baluster X', place it in plan, turn up the smoothing angle, then delete the iron balusters with a single click each. Then, convert to a new mill work symbol.
  11. If you remember, you created a great macro for me that accomplishes that task while still enabling the terrain elevation inputs to be normal. I need to show several of the building's elevations with a metric geodetic match. And the macro you created for me works in every section view.
  12. @builtright3 Ok, I can't get it with a setting as quickly as I hoped, and now I'm out of time! But if you zoom in close, really close, then drag the lower side edge of the attic wall to the left, until its neatly aligned, the lines will disappear and the stucco will blend.
  13. Thanks. And it appears as though your number needs to be evened out.
  14. Thx for the confirmation Michael. Its something that's bugged me for a long time and I figured I better make sure I haven't been missing a deeply buried gem somewhere within Chief's settings. No gems for me.
  15. If you post the plan, I'll take a look and tell you how I go about it.
  16. I must be missing something. How do you specify the default layout box label and its default position? For some reason I can't find any place to set this.
  17. To add a bit more context, I use Century Gothic for Room Labels and other titles in plans that are of a modern or contemporary style only.
  18. I use Century Gothic for some things as well (have for many years) however it's worth pointing out that it is a fairly wide font and occupies more horizontal space than many others. Something to be aware of, that's all.
  19. You're welcome. FWIW...I have tons of experience with ICF foundations and homes; designing them, building them, living in them.
  20. For simple interior finishing, line the wall framing up with the interior of the ICF wall so that they are flush.
  21. What's the simplest way to get the main floor wall cladding to NOT extend down and over the main floor?
  22. You know how sometimes you get caught up in one thing and then totally forget the obvious? That's me on this one! I had been working on walthrough paths and completely forgot about this! Thanks for the reminder Glenn! Interestingly enough, I was out riding my bike yesterday and found myself thinking about different things in Chief that I know (or knew) about but have forgotten over the years and then I read this today! Awesome...and weird, but I'll take it. And, years ago, I used this tool quite often.
  23. I'd like a recording with decent visual quality and smoothness. I hate to admit it, but it seems the simplest way is to use a smartphone to record the screen while pressing control-alt-s to generate the spin. That did produce an 83MB file...a bit cumbersome but at least it wasn't twitchy and it only takes 30 seconds and much less loss of graphic quality! I just need a small tripod to keep it stationary! A chief tool that would be the inverse of a 360 photo would be ideal.
