I NEVER EVER draw 2 buildings in the same plan file. There are plenty of reasons why I wouldn't. If I need to provide imaging of both together, I'll use a symbol of the simpler building or Chief's reference display.
-
Don't suppose you have an example pic handy? I can think of plenty of ways that Chief can be used for larger projects, but larger is relative. As long as the building is rectilinear and made up of rooms and floor levels, Chief may very well be able to handle it. This...Yes: This...No.

The only help I've got is to change all the lights...sorry! I deleted all the added lights and used the light fixtures only, with some edits to their light properties.

If you use trusses, there would be a structural truss with vertical gable studs between the stress members / top & bottom chords. If you use rafters, there would be a gable end wall framed between ceiling joists and roof rafters.
-
You're missing something in your settings because it's unlikely a graphics card issue. Can you post the plan? I'm sure it's just something you've overlooked or a setting you may be unaware of.
-
It looks like the floor platform is going through roof planes where they join together. Can you post the plan? You probably should create some "attic" rooms on the 2nd floor, close to the edges of the roof.
-
There is probably not an exterior wall below it. Main floor plan view, turn off auto-roof, place a point at the gable, move to attic level, turn on reference display, drag attic wall to point.
-
That's all you can do. However, if you keep the original cabinet in your plan or library, then it'll be fairly quick to make adjustments and repeat the symbol process.

I hear ya. I can tell by your example that you also want your aluminum railing on stairs to look somewhat realistic! I wish they'd give us stairs, railings etc, that are can be exploded (sort of) ...allow us to edit the parts, but with a reset button, or something like that.
-
Place a stair at each edge, then just drag them close together.

Can we seriously not rotate the layout box of a section or elevation view? I'm gonna have to use an old-fashioned CAD detail, right?
-
You need my special wall type the "Deck Defeater"! You can use it to define the deck perimeter, then set the deck's actual railing to "No Room Definition". Caution though, having those 2 walls in the same place can come with extra hassles!

I'd be curious to know the origin of the wall you used and if that had some effect. I use single layer wall types for 2 scenarios: concrete foundation walls, and as-built plans. I've never had the problem you demonstrated and I can't replicate it in a new plan or in an existing plan. But there's no question that something's buggy in the plan you posted, but I don't know what it is.

Are you Jimmy Ray, I mean GordonRay as well? I was obviously responding to a different user. For all we know, this user may have their walls setup differently than yours. The point was that if a plan is posted...not yours, but GordonRay's, then we could investigate a bit further. And the comment about layers was simply a reminder that using wall layers, if possible, may help solve the problem. I never suggested or intimated that you or anyone else was doing something incorrectly. So unless you are BenPalmer and GordonRay, then only you posted a plan which identified the problem. GordonRay did not.

You'd need to post a plan so we know exactly what wall types are giving you the problem. Keep in mind that Chief would like an interior and an exterior layer.

Interestingly enough, rotate the texture and pattern 90 degrees and see what happens.

@kaitadams13 I'd suggest making sure that p-solid is on the 'furniture' layer. In the last camera view, it appears as though it's layer isn't displayed.

This isn't helpful for walkout foundations using pony walls because all portions of the foundation wall will have dashed lines including the framed portion. I think it ends up looking pretty dumb. On a flat lot, even the shorter portion of the foundation above grade that ends up dashed looks bad. So, the reason people "struggle" is because it's a fair amount of work to show the dashed lines below grade ONLY. It's not the "how" that is the problem, it's how to make it really simple and have the drawing 'perfect'...that's the issue. As @Chrisb222 mentioned, I've settled on a CAD mask that's already in each plan, and I only show / adjust it for the final plan set.
-
That pretty much covers it. You've missed nothing new. It's still a nuisance.

It's very simple to create that from scratch. Just draw the shapes using polyline solids, making sure you create a repeatable pattern. Then marquee select the group of solids and use the Convert to Symbol tool and select the Molding option.

Computer power and recording walkthrough videos
robdyck replied to GeneDavis's topic in General Q & A
I can tell you Gene, that for me, recording a walkthrough simply wasn't an option on X12, using my older gaming PC. It just took more time than it was worth, financially. X13s new features, plus a new gaming pc with my 3080 card has changed that. I still don't do it often, but its much faster and the preview feature makes it much more user friendly.
